Founding members of the recently instituted Coimbatore Wine Society

Coimbatore gets its own Wine Society – raise a toast to a swirl of elegance BY OUR CORRESPONDENT

R

aising the bar in Coimbatore’s refined circles, the city now has got a new release for its connoisseurs of the good life and fine taste in the form of a wine society.

The Coimbatore Wine Society was established by 14 founding members. It has been formed as a Trust managed / governed by an Executive Committee. The executive committee comprises of President Varadaraj Ranganathan, Secretary Versha Chawla, Treasurer Ramesh A Nichani, and two members Satish Santanam and D. Charles Fabian. This glittering maiden event of the Wine Society took place at the city’s leading hotel The Residency Towers Coimbatore. The history of wine is closely interwoven with the history and culture of civilization. As a society evolves, the curiosity and the search for fine wines also expand. Behind every wine there lies a history of the unique culture of its origin. • The Trust will enable its members to explore the world of wine, its historical origins, the culture of the regions where it proliferated, its role in the growth of civilization and expansion of trade. • Facilitate its members understand the evolution of the process of wine making, the science of viticulture and oenology, the varieties of grapes, terroir, the role of soil, climate and water in the taste and quality of wine, its ageing and ability to preserve. • It will offer its members an opportunity to understand how different wines complement COIMBATORE
