The human race is resilient and shall come out stronger

Quarantine quips

Since the last few weeks the world has been in a corona induced stupor. The globe seems to be spinning slower on its axis. And life as we knew it before March has come to a standstill.

While we wait for things to limp back to normalcy, there are too many unknown factors at work with no immediate end in sight.

Economic activity is perhaps far lower in the rung of priorities when compared to our very existence being at stake. It’s a challenging toss up between life and livelihood, the devil and the deep sea.

For those of us with the privilege of living despite prevailing conditions, one can only be grateful. Many aren’t as fortunate whose survival gets decided on a daily basis. We should find it in our hearts to extend support in whatever form we can.

On the flip side, families have been forced to rediscover each other for better or for worse. In the BC (Before Corona) era, everyone was too busy with their own lives, work, school, college, business, travel to spend any meaningful time together.

Many latent talents have resurfaced, with a passion for cooking a great fallout of this pandemic. Home chefs are ruling the roost. Kids are learning to cope with less, a great life lesson for this consumerist generation.

The human race is resilient and we have fought wars, pandemics and plagues before. And lived to tell the tale. So this too shall pass.

Until then, keep spirits up (and not just the liquid kind)! SMITI JAIN NARAYAN Consultant Editor
