Welcome to Ski Japan Japan’s landscapes are adorned in striking mountains and long seashores. The central highlands and northern regions are abundant in high quality snow, making the skiing grounds in Japan amongst the best the world has to offer. Some of the most famous ski resorts are found in Hokkaido, the northern island, and Nagano on the main island of Honshu, offering a variety of accommodation in a peaceful and welcoming village setting. Japan’s complementing ski culture of beautiful scenery, relaxing hot springs and an appreciation of traditional gourmet delights transforms a simple ski holiday into an unforgettable and intrinsically rewarding experience. Japan’s ski season starts in December and lasts until April, with the peak season and best snow conditions occurring between mid January and the end of February. Japan’s snow is perfect for skiing and snowboarding with moderate temperatures generally no colder than -10 degrees Celsius on the lower slopes, dry light powder snow in abundance and solid infrastructure that can support the growing numbers of International enthusiasts travelling to Japan for the experience. If skiing or snowboarding perfect dry powder all day long on a variety of groomed and ungroomed runs is not your preferred outlet, then you can try the excellent facilities in the specialty parks such as waves and half pipes. Additionally, other types of snow sports are welcomed pastimes such as snow biking , snow scooters, and snow mobiling. The particular Japanese way of life in the snow, takes pleasure in a combination of energetic, exhilarating days on the slopes, relaxing and rejuvenating hot baths and onsens, followed by a cold kirin or asahi, a warm cup of sake and a delicious Japanese meal…what a perfect day!

Japan Facts

Japan is situated in northeastern Asia between the North Pacific and the Sea of Japan. Japan consists of four major islands; Honshu, Kyushu, Shikoku and Hokkaido, surrounded by roughly 4,000 smaller islands, combined it’s population is currently around 126 million.

Climate Japan’s winter is from December to February presenting the best times to visit the snow. The average snowfall in Niseko reaches 15 metres per year. On the main island where Hakuba and Nozawa Onsen are located, the average yearly snow fall is 11 metres per year. Currency The local currency is Japanese Yen. Citibank ATMs are also widely available in Tokyo and major airports. Passport Each person must carry a passport with at least 6 months validity from the date of arrival into Japan. Australian passport holders do not require a Visa prior to arrival in Japan for stays up to 90 days. Asia Escape Holidays highly recommends to check all visa requirements with the appropriate embassies or consulates before commencing travel arrangements. However take the time to learn some basic Japanese, a little effort will be appreciated and enjoyed by the locals. Drinking Water It is safe to drink water directly from the tap in Japan. However, mineral water can be easily obtained from supermarkets, convenience stores and within hotels.

Asia Escape Holidays advise you to talk to your doctor prior to departure about recommended vaccinations or medication that you may require. Holidays/Special Days There are a number of special days/holidays all throughout Japan. On the island of Hokkaido, for 7 days starting in the second week of February, the town of Sapporo holds the Sapporo Snow Festival, where rows of snow statues are on display in the city. Tokyo

Welcome to Thailand

Tokyo Tokyo is the capital of Japan and is widely considered the thriving centre of economic, cultural and industrial activity. With over 12 million people, it’s also one of the most populated cities in the world, and one of the most fun to visit if you know where to go and what to do. There are large-scale downtown areas, including Ginza where famous branded shops line the streets, the restless Shinjuku that has become the “new city centre of Tokyo,” Asakusa, a town reminiscent of the old world Tokyo, and trend-setting city of Shibuya where unique and exotic tastes combine with contemporary and elaborative flair. An extensive variety of the city’s attractions and diversity in activities makes Tokyo an excellent stay for a stopover on the way to or from the alpine regions. Located approximately one hour from Tokyo’s Narita airport.

Asia Escape Holidays recommends travellers to Tokyo utilise Japan’s reliable and convenient public transport system. Make sure you get yourself a JR Train line and a Tokyo Subway map. Japan is renowned for its friendly and helpful people so ask for assistance with directions. From Narita Airport the easiest and most cost effective way to get to Tokyo proper is via the Narita Express. Take the Rapid Train (just under one hour from the airport to Tokyo station). The Rapid Train stops at all the major stations. The Narita Express is one level down from the Arrivals Hall at Narita Airport. Follow the signs or ask for directions. Once you arrive at the closest major station to your hotel take the exit which directs you to the taxis and complete your journey in Tokyo in a Toyota Crown. Taxis are extremely easy to find and moderately priced. They are a great way to see Tokyo and the drivers are very friendly and generally speak or understand English in the major centres.

Transfers

5 Moiwa is currently expanding its facilities, it offers a limited number of ski runs but is definitely less crowded than the other four ski resort areas. It is still very challenging in part and has abundant powder to keep you entertained for at least a day of solid skiing.

Niseko is located approximately 2.5 hours from Sapporo’s Chitose airport. Upon arrival at Chitose Airport, a Skybus representative will meet you at the exit of your arrival gate. They will be holding a Skybus sign and be dressed in a Skybus uniform. They will ensure your holiday starts the moment you depart the arrivals gate.

1 Grand Hirafu is where most of the accommodation, restaurants, bars and ski lifts are located

All Skybus Shuttle transfers are door to door, so you will be delivered directly to your accommodation in Niseko.

2 Higashiyama which is dominated by the amazing Hilton Niseko Village Hotel. A spectacular five star hotel located at the base of some fairly challenging ski runs

If you have booked Private Shuttle Transfers, the shuttle will depart just as soon as you are ready to begin your Niseko Ski Adventure. If you are in a group of 7 passengers or more it is more cost effective to book a Private Transfer.
