Canada to lift Morocco fl ight ban on Oct. 29

OTTAWA — Canada has ended its fi nal fl ight ban with the reintroduction of direct fl ights from Morocco, starting Oct. 29. According to Transport Canada, the decision to lift the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), was based on the improved COVID-19 situation in Morocco. The fl ight ban, which restricted direct fl ights to Canada from Morocco, has been in place since Aug. 29. Beginning at 12:01 a.m. EDT on Oct. 29, fully vaccinated travellers and those unvaccinated who are eligible to enter Canada will be able to board direct fl ights from Morocco to Canada with the following measures: • Travellers must have one of the following:  Proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular pre-departure test result documented in the Moroccan COVID PCR Test Certifi cate issued by the Government of Morocco and recognized by the European Commission, taken within 72 hours of scheduled departure; or,  Proof of a previous positive test result taken between 14 and 180 days before departure to Canada in lieu of a negative test. Travellers who have been in Morocco more than 14 days and have been infected while in

Morocco, must provide proof of a positive COVID-19 molecular test documented in the Moroccan COVID-19 PCR Test Certifi cate issued by the Government of

Morocco. Travellers who were infected prior to arrival in Morocco

must provide proof of previous infection from another country prior to their arrival. • Prior to boarding, air operators will authenticate passengers’ Moroccan COVID-19 PCR Test Certifi cates by scanning the digital QR codes to verify/confi rm the identity of the passenger and their test result. They will also ensure that travellers are eligible to come to Canada, have uploaded their information into the ArriveCAN mobile app or website, and have a mask to wear during travel.

Travellers who are unable to meet these requirements will be denied boarding.

Travellers who are eligible to enter Canada and who depart Morocco for Canada via an indirect route still need to obtain, within 72 hours of their fl ight to Canada, a valid negative COVID-19 molecular test from a third country – other than Morocco – before continuing their journey to Canada.

The news about Morocco comes nearly a month after Canada lifted its India fl ight ban, which fi rst went into eff ect in April 2021.

Travel Leaders Group’s EDGE 2021 conference captures travel’s forward momentum

ORLANDO — After more than a year and a half of the pandemic, and a very tough road for the travel industry, “the ships are back in the water, planes are in the air, and people are travelling again,” says Travel Leaders Group President John Lovell. Headlining a hybrid in-person / videoconference edition of the annual press conference at Travel Leaders Network’s EDGE conference, which took place from Oct. 18-21 at Loews Royal Pacifi c Resort at Universal Orlando, Lovell said the energy at the event was palpable, and so was the optimism.

“The business is coming back, you can feel it,” he said. “We’ve all made it. We’re on the other side of this thing, we survived and we’re going to move on. I’m very encouraged for the future. I think the best is yet to come.”

More than 1,400 travel advisors, suppliers and other industry partners registered for EDGE. It was the fi rst live and in-person EDGE since May 2019.

Travel Leaders Group’s stats estimate a return to 2019-type numbers not next year, but the year after. “I think we’ll get back to true full strength sometime in 2023,” said Lovell, adding “2023 could be a stellar year for all of us.”

In Canada there are now more than 700 TL Network members, says Christine James, Vice President of TL Network Canada. Some 38 members have joined since the start of 2021. Eff ective Nov. 1 that will include The Travel Agent Next Door. Last week TTAND announced that it was joining TL Network. TTAND was formerly with Ensemble.

DISTINCTIVE VOYAGES’ RETURN TO THE SEAS EDGE updates included news that Travel Leaders Network’s popular Distinctive Voyages Hosted cruise program is returning to the seas, with some new additions. Distinctive Voyages’ fi rst sailing since the pandemic departed Sept. 26, 2021, and 19 Distinctive Voyages sailings are scheduled before the end of the year. Passengers on these cruises will have a host, receive a shipboard credit and be given a bon voyage bottle of wine in lieu of a welcome reception due to social distancing regulations. In 2022 and 2023, there will be 578 Distinctive Voyages going to 30 countries and 47 ports of call. Distinctive Voyages’ cruise partners include: AmaWaterways; Azamara; Celebrity Cruises; Crystal Cruises; Cunard Line; Holland America Line; Oceania Cruises; Princess Cruises; Regent Seven Seas Cruises; Seabourn; Silversea Cruises; and Windstar Cruises.

In 2022, Distinctive Voyages’ popular Private Car and Driver option will be off ered on 16 Distinctive Voyages sailings.

Travel Leaders Group’s Chief Marketing Offi cer, Stephen McGillvray, noted that in addition to Distinctive Voyages, Travel Leaders Group’s cruise program also includes Amenity Departures, and the Culinary Collection. There are currently 5,544 Amenity Departures planned into 2024, with 17 preferred partners. The Culinary Collection meanwhile has 139 departures on the books into 2023, with a wide range of off ers including Chef’s Table experiences, wine tastings, galley tours, specialty dining and more.

AGENT PROFILER UPDATE McGillvray also outlined enhancements to Travel Leaders Network’s lead generation program, Agent Profi ler. For the fi rst time ever, Travel Leaders Network is allowing Agent Profi ler advisors to turn off leads temporarily. This allows the advisor to take time off without having to worry about a backlog of leads. The advisor’s profi le will remain up, although they will not be able to be called, and users will see a customizable note that they are not open to new leads at the moment. Agent Profi ler now off ers a remote agent locator, allowing a travel advisor to update their location from wherever they are currently working. Agent Profi ler also off ers an easy video appointment booker, requested by both travelers and travel advisors to accommodate social distancing measures and busy schedules. Agent Profi ler will also host the video visit. Advisors on Agent Profiler can now also list the number of years they have been a travel advisor. And if an advisor has completed Travel Leaders Network’s Book With Confidence program, a badge is added to their profile to let users know they are experts in traveling safely in this COVID-19. For independent advisors, Agent Profi ler will display the agency name on search results, along with their host agency. In 2021 Agent Profi ler delivered more than 150,000 leads to advisors. Leads are fuelled by Travel Leaders Group’s B2C site in the U.S., TravelLeaders.com, and in Canada, CanadianTravelAgents.ca.

G Adventures reports 1,000th tour departure and shortest booking window

TORONTO — G Adventures celebrated its 1,000th tour departure earlier this month with no fewer than 11 trips departing on the milestone date.

The company is also seeing its shortest booking window since the pandemic started. Travellers are now booking their G Adventures trips an average of four months prior to departure. That’s on a par with pre-COVID lead times. G Adventures is currently offering 20% off its popular Classic program of bucket list adventures, and says it has plenty of inventory for those looking to book their long-awaited adventure. According to David Green, managing director for G Adventures in Canada, the company has safely and successfully operated tours since September 2020, more departures than any other operator since the onset of the global pandemic.

“We’re back running trips in more than 20 countries and are experienced in all the new protocols required for travel as the world reopens. The shortened booking window proves Canadian travellers are trusting us to get them back out into the world sooner rather than later,” says Green. Classic tours on sale for 20% off, available to book until Nov. 1, 2021, for travel before Oct. 31, 2022, include: the 14-day Ultimate Italy, from Rome to Venice (now priced from $3,229 per person, down from $3,799; the 8-day Machu Picchu Adventure (now $1,383, down from $1,729); and the 11-day Backroads of Japan (now $3,759, down from $4,699).

“We’re back running trips in more than 20 countries and are experienced in all the new protocols required for travel as the world reopens. The shortened booking window proves Canadian travellers are trusting us to get them back out into the world sooner rather than later.”

In August 2021 G Adventures introduced Vaccinated Tours and Travel-Ready programs. On Vaccinated Tours, all travellers and CEOs (chief experience officers) must have received a full COVID-19 vaccination with the final dose administered at least 14 days prior to day one of the tour. On Travel-Ready tours, all travellers and CEOs must have either received a full COVID-19 vaccination, or have a negative PCR test within 96 hours prior to day one of their tour’s departure. An icon will be featured next to each trip on the website to indicate which category of tour the departure falls under. All trips booked benefit from G Adventures’ Book with Confidence policy, which lets travellers cancel or rebook their tour up to 14 days before their departure at no extra cost.

For Phase II, for travel on or after Nov. 30, 2021, only proof of vaccination for guests 12 years or older (with narrow exceptions) will be acceptable for travel on the WestJet Group. The WestJet Group will be communicating these new travel requirements in various ways, including via notification emails, check-in declaration, validation requirements as well as on WestJet.com and flyswoop.com.

FOR WESTJET GROUP EMPLOYEES Effective Oct. 30, 2021, WestJet and Swoop will transition to fully vaccinated airlines with the implementation of the company’s mandatory employee vaccination policy. All WestJet Group employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and full vaccination status is a requirement of employment for all future employees hired by the WestJet Group, with accommodations managed pursuant to human rights law. Employees who fail to achieve full vaccination status by Oct. 30, 2021 will face unpaid leave and termination of employment. Sunwing, Porter Airlines and Air Canada have all previously announced their own mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policies

Barbados removes second PCR test for fully vaccinated travellers

BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS — Barbados has eliminated the need for a second COVID-19 PCR test among fully vaccinated travellers, effective immediately.

The destination announced that as of Oct. 24, 2021, fully vaccinated travellers with a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test result will no longer be required to take a second PCR test on arrival in Barbados, or observe a quarantine period. Health officials at Grantley Adams International Airport may select fully vaccinated travellers with a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test result at random for a Rapid Antigen arrival test on entry. In this situation, these travellers must do the following: • Take the Rapid Antigen arrival test as directed at the airport free of charge • Await the results of the Rapid Antigen Test (no quarantine required due to short turnaround time for results) • Depart the airport using approved transportation only

Unvaccinated travellers will continue to adhere to the following protocols: • Show proof of a negative Standard COVID-19PCR test taken no more than 3 days prior to arrival in Barbados, as outlined in the Barbados Travel Protocols • Depart the airport using approved transportation only • Quarantine for a period of 5 days at a pre-approved accommodation • After day 5 of quarantine, take a mandatory second COVID-19 PCR test at one of the approved labs or testing hotels across the island at a cost to the traveller • Continue to quarantine until the results of the second COVID-19 PCR test are received
