Copper Canyon
5 Day Tour The Railroad of Chihuahua-Pacífico is Mexico’s most exciting travel experience and is one of the most
outstanding achievements of railway engineering in the world. The railway ascends to a maximum height
of approximately 2400 metres, then plunges into a series of canyons, clinging to sheer walls, descending in
gigantic loops and tunnelling through the majestic Sierra Madre, a mountain range more than 40 million years
old! This masterful engineering feat required 37 principal bridges and 86 tunnels to traverse the 653 kilometres
from Los Mochis to Chihuahua City!
Day 1 _ Arrive Los Mochis Transfer from Los Mochis airport to your hotel. If time permits you may like to take a boat ride around the spectacular Topolobampo Bay, the third largest in the world. Dinner own arrangements.
Day 2 _ Los Mochis to Divisadero Begin your journey traversing the awesome wilderness of the magnificent Copper Canyon with an early morning transfer to the train station. Arrive at Divisadero mid afternoon. Your hotel is right on the rim of the Canyon with one of the best views in the world! The afternoon and next morning are yours to explore the Tarahumara Indian caves, where you can purchase creative crafts and curios or take one of the many walks available. The 50,000 Tarahumara remain one of the most primitive people in North America. Dinner included.
Day 3 _ Divisadero to Creel Breakfast and time to explore. Two walking tours included in Divisadero: Tarahumara Caves & the Balancing Rock. In the afternoon the train will take you to the lumber town of Creel. Arrive at Creel, situated at 2290m in the Sierra Madre and still maintaining its rustic flavour. Check into your hotel. Breakfast and Lunch included. Dinner own arrangements.
Day 4 _ Creel to Chihahua After breakfast, visit Casa de Las Artesanias, promoting regional crafts and housing an excellent permanent exhibition together with a well presented museum on the Tarahumara. Board the train in the afternoon for Chihuahua. Lunch and dinner at own arrangements. Transfer to hotel and check into your hotel in Chihuahua. Breakfast included.
Day 5 _ Depart Chihahua Chihuahua City, capital of Mexico’s largest state. Do not miss Pancho Villa’s former home, now a museum, or the incredible murals at the state Capital Building. Travel Tips

Tours
Mexico is the 15th largest country in the world. Half of the country is more than 1500m above sea level. Due to the altitude in some regions and the diversity of the country, the climate varies greatly. Generally, the climate is tropical and similar to that of Australia as it lies just to the north of the equator. Summer months are from June through to August with wettest months being July and August. The drier months are November–May with a more temperate climate.
Credit cards are widely accepted, with Visa and Mastercard being the cards of choice. American Express is also widely accepted. When checking into hotels, clients are often asked for a credit card to cover incidental charges, and asked to sign a blank charge slip. This is a common practice and should not be viewed with suspicion. Ensure to ask for a copy upon check out.
For your own convenience, it is important for you to book your transfers and tours in advance. Time factor is important once you have arrived in Mexico, and by advance booking, you can avoid a lot of hassles and time consuming arrangements. Booking in advance means service with the right and professional people, as well as a good deal of savings, since we are the official representatives of the top tour operators in Mexico.
Language
Tipping 10% to 15% is customary in Mexico. Usually you are not expected to tip a taxi driver. In general, tip service people (hotel maids, bellboys and waiters). Always carry extra peso notes in small amounts for tipping as they do come in very handy.
Spanish is the predominant language. English is spoken and understood in the resort areas. Whenever possible, speak Spanish – your hosts will love you for trying. Several native American languages are spoken in certain regions of Mexico.
Time
Tipping
Staying healthy
Mexico has 3 different time zones: West Coast, Central (Mexico City) and East Coast (Cancún). The time difference during Australian summer is 17 hours ahead Mexican Central Time, and during Australian winter, 15 hours ahead Mexican Central Time.
A very simple way to ruin your Mexico holiday is to become paranoid about getting sick. Use common sense and follow these guidelines: always wash your hands before eating; drink plenty of nonalcoholic fluids and do not become dehydrated! Drink bottled water; ease into local eating and drinking habits. Respect the almighty Tequila God!!
Currency
Crowds
Money is exchanged at casa de cambios (currency exchange houses), which are open longer hours than banks and generally offer quicker service too. It is better not to exchange your US dollars at airports as the exchange rate is usually very poor compared with the above. The peso is local currency. While US dollars are readily accepted throughout, particularly in major resort areas, we recommend you use pesos during your stay.
US, European and Mexican holidays have an impact on travel flows to Mexico’s beach resorts. Christmas and Easter are the busiest times for beach resorts; we recommend you skip these holidays and travel in early December or early to mid-January as the weather is superb, rates are cheaper and the crowds are gone!
What to pack Casual dress is appropriate for nearly all occasions in Mexico. However, Mexico has some particular customs regarding appropriate dress for certain situations: bathers should not be worn away from swimming pools and beach areas; shorts should not be worn when entering a church; don’t forget to pack sunglasses, suntan lotion, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, insect repellent, camera and film, a pocket sized English/Spanish dictionary, a small first-aid kit, and last of all – your spirit of adventure and sense of humour! Note: Mexico’s electrical current is 110 volts AC – the same as the US and Canada – i.e. leave the hair dryer at home!
Transfers Ground operators are there to assist and guide you should you be in need of English speaking assistance. In a foreign speaking country, the transfer operators are a welcome support, not just as a means of getting about, but they will help you in case you experience problems. You can always count on the transfer operator as your friend in Mexico.
