SOUL PROSPERITY: Healthy Feeling, Thinking and Choosing

Pastor Scarlett Horton

To gain physical strength we must participate in exercise, we call it conditioning. Likewise, we can properly condition our mind to think, choose and feel in healthy ways. This discipline is learned and can pay high dividends, for the Bible states that we prosper and live in health even as our soul prospers.

Humans have 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts a day. Experts say 80% of those thoughts are negative in nature. Ninety-eight percent of those same thoughts are the thoughts we had the day before. We are truly creatures of habit. If we want change, we must change our minds.

Our Father God has unlimited resources. Because of His great love for us, He sent His Son to provide life, abundant life, for us. Abundance is not man’s idea, it is God’s idea. Through the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, grace became available to us who are born again.

2 Corinthians 8:7 states that we are to abound in this grace also, the same grace that was upon our Savior, the grace to prosper. Though He was rich, yet He became poor, so that through His poverty we might be made rich.

I think it is a mistake to go after money. I have seen covetous people who have fallen in love with money, erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich and adds no sorrow with it (I Timothy 6:10). I believe we should access the grace that has been so generously given to us through Christ. He is the God of all grace, so let’s engage the grace!

It is so wonderful that God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants. Five reasons why should operate in this grace to prosper: 1. Our prosperity pleases God. 2. Our prosperity magnifies God. 3. Our prosperity enables the gospel to be sponsored throughout the earth. 4. Our prosperity helps bless the poor. 5. Our prosperity helps us enjoy life. The silver and gold is the Lord’s. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. Receive His powerful grace today and climb to another level of His great abundance.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. (3 John 2)

5 STEPS TO CONDITION OUR MIND:

• Think about what you are thinking about - Most days we just let our thinking run wild and become pessimistic. Becoming aware of your thoughts is the first step in capturing the bleak ones.

• Identify negative thoughts - Adverse thoughts should be stopped and replaced by constructive ones.

• Counter and replace negative thoughts through positive verbalization - The easiest way to think favorable thoughts is to begin to say those optimistic thoughts out loud

• Be intentional - Focus is everything. If we believe the scripture “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he”, we must grasp the importance of this exercise. Keep conditioning your mind to create the outcome in your life that you desire

• Be consistent - Everyday say your positive proclamations. Keep conditioning your mind to create the outcome in your life that you desire.

GRACE AND FAITH: The Perfect Balance

Dr. David Horton

For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (EPHESIANS 2:8-9 KJV)

This is one of the most important verses in the Bible. Herein lies the whole gospel, the concept of soul salvation via God’s gift, and our receiving of it. It is completely opposite the “way” of the Mosaic law, which was based on merit and works. Here we see God working and giving. In terms of salvation, there is nothing left that we can do or offer for the remission of our sins and sin state. All is lost, all is vanity. But God has given us this beautiful, unfathomable gift of love, and has simultaneously given us the faith we need to receive it. The grace, salvation, and faith is all part of the gift of God.

So what are we required to do? All we need to do is believe. When I activate my faith by believing, I do my part to “seal the deal” so to speak. Any works beyond that is really operating in doubt and unbelief.

This scripture needs to become something we use daily. Because the word “salvation” here is an all-inclusive word, I can believe then that I’m healed by grace through faith because healing is a part of salvation. I can also believe that I’m made prosperous by grace through faith because prosperity is part of salvation. What a wondrous thing, this salvation by grace.

It seems that some people today have confused “faith with corresponding action” with “dead works.” If we really believe, however, that Christ has purchased our salvation, healing and prosperity with His own blood, then corresponding action just comes about almost subconciously, and certainly naturally. It’s like sitting down to a meal when we are hungry: someone else raised the cattle, harvested the grains, prepared and cooked the meal, set the table and rang the dinner bell. All we have to do is stick our fork in it and put it in our mouth, chew and swallow. Not exactly dead works. Just doing what comes naturally when we are hungry and we believe what is set before us is tasty and nutritious. The definition of “dead works” has more to do with the purpose of the so-called “work” than the action itself. For example, if we are doing anything to gain or merit any part of our salvation other than believe in Christ’s finished work, then we are attempting a dead work. It is dead in the sense that the work itself is not needed, and in fact is rejected by God completely.

On the other hand, speaking and acting in lockstep with what Christ has done and completed comes as easily and natural as breathing to a living soul. If you are straining and struggling, something’s wrong somewhere. Taking time to explore your heart deeper than just what lies on the surface will expose real faith and help you overcome any fear or unbelief.

I encourage you today to take a little time and meditate on the finished work of Christ. Begin to see yourself in light of that finished work. See yourself righteous, healed and whole.

See yourself blessed according to Ephesians 3:20 —superabundantly, above your highest prayers or dreams!

Then just begin to think, talk and act in accordance to the truth of redemption. The real transformation will begin at that point, even though in the mind of God it was secured “from the foundation of the earth.”

I want you to experience the redeemed life. God wants to bless us in ways that we have yet to imagine.

Grace and faith to you today!

Horton Ministries YEAR IN REVIEW

Dr. David Horton

All I can say about 2019 is that it has been a whirlwind in every sense! Scarlett and I started the year off by getting married at Kenneth Copeland’s Minister’s Conference, and the next day we flew to Mobile, Alabama for a conference and we haven’t stopped since! Scarlett and I have known each other for almost 40 years as friends and fellow ministers, and we both found ourselves single at the same time! After one date, and hours of telephone conversations, we both fell in love and it’s been great.

God has blessed our union, and we are excited about the days ahead both personally and ministerially. (Read “Vision 2020” in this issue). Here is a snapshot of what we’ve accomplished over the last eleven months:

• We have made 24 ministry trips, including four foreign nations (France, Ecuador, Peru and Chile)and nine states in the USA.

• Pastored two churches in separate campuses in Florida

• Released two second-edition versions of God Loves Women and God’s Number One Job.

• Reorganized several separate ministry entities under one umbrella name, “Horton Ministries International.”

• Scarlett has maintained a counseling practice at Path of Grace in Sandestin, FL, helping young women with addiction recovery.

• Hosted Four Conferences: Power of God Conference (February); Healing and Miracles Conference (May); Two Grace and Faith Campmeetings in Tampa, FL and Panama City Beach, FL(August).

• Media ministry including podcasts, radio broadcasts, television broadcasts and livestreamed services, as well as social media presence and postings.

• Guest teaching in Bible Schools in Ecuador and Chile.

• Featured speaker at “An Awakening to God” Event in Colorado, hosted by Praise Him Ministries

• Opened “Nite-Vision 2019” in Colorado in prayer, Praise Him Ministries’ annual outdoor gospel concert event with 12,000 in attendance each night. David continues to serve on the board of PHM.

VISION 2020

As we move ahead into a new year, we have been seeking God regarding His plans and vision. Here are some of the goals we have set for 2020:

GOD LOVES WOMEN

SCARLETT HORTON

Who said this is a man’s world? Certainly not God.

God loves women and loves to empower His daughters to live happy, successful lives. In fact, God describes His idea of a powerful woman in Proverbs 31.

Author Scarlett Horton admits that initially she considered the “virtuous woman” of Proverbs 31 an outdated cliche, out of touch with today’s woman in almost every way. Then God caused her to see this woman as never before. Through this book, Scarlett escorts women on a verse-by-verse journey of Proverbs 31 to discover how we are made in Christ to be strong, wealthy, physically healthy and generous towards others. It is time to step into the beauty of who Christ has made you—full of His strength and character to impact the world around you.

EMPOWERMENT: Why Every Believer Can Do the Works of Christ

DR. DAVID HORTON

Have you ever had a desire to be a more effective witness for Christ, only to be told that you perhaps were not ready, not mature enough or spiritual enough?

Maybe you’ve believed that God only uses special vessels that He alone chooses. Maybe you just don’t feel you’re informed, trained or qualified enough to really be used of God in touching the lives of others.

In Empowerment, Why Every Believer Can Do the Works of Christ, author David Horton explains in easy-to-understand terms how you can be an effective witness, no matter how long you have been a believer. Unmasking traditional erroneous thinking that has held so many back from being bold in their faith, Empowerment takes the reader on a journey of confidence building truth that emboldens, equips and empowers. By the end of the final chapter, you can start experiencing the same kind of ministry results that early believers in the book of Acts realized. This book will challenge you to do more for God, establish purpose for your Christianity, and help to fill the “hole in your soul.” Available for purchase at HortonMinistries.com
