Should I Stay or Should I Go? HOW TO KNOW WHEN IT’S TIME TO SELL Part of being a homeowner is dealing with the intermittent thought, “Hmm, maybe I should put my house on the market . . .” Obviously, deciding to sell your home is no small decision. In fact, it’s right up there with deciding to buy a home in the first place. Before making an irrational decision, it’s important to consider several factors that could influence your choice on whether now is the best time to sell. Here are four indicators that can help you decide whether now actually may be a good time to list your home: YOU’RE OUT OF SPACE. While it might be nice to have more room for your shoes, does that warrant a new home? On the other hand, is there a baby on the way? An in-law moving in? If your household is getting ready to grow, it may be time to move on to a house that will accommodate your expanding needs. Make sure to think 10 years down the road when purchasing a bigger home.
YOU’RE IN A HOT MARKET. If “sold” signs are popping up frequently in your neighborhood and prices are rising quickly, it might be worth talking to your real estate agent. If now is the time you can potentially make a big return on your investment, you might want to consider making a move. If nothing else, you can add to your savings with the money made by the sale. YOU’RE SICK OF YARD WORK. If raking leaves and restaining your deck are no longer considered fun projects, you may be at a stage where you’re looking to scale down to a more streamlined, less work-intensive living situation. Consider townhomes with an HOA that includes yard work and upkeep as a part of dues. YOUR LIFE HAS CHANGED. If you’ve had a major life event - marriage, separation, new job, retirement - it may necessitate a new home and/or a new location that makes more sense for your new life. Consider whether your current home is still the right fit. Reprinted with permission from RISMedia. ©2017. All rights reserved.

Seasonal Lawn care for february & March Regardless of the current climate, you’ll keep your curb appeal in tip-top shape by practicing simple lawn care projects for every month of the year. With that in mind, now is the perfect time to think about February and March.
February
March
Depending on the state you live in, your lawn may still have frosts, frozen ground, or waterlogged soil during the month of February. If this is the case, be sure to avoid walking on the lawn until everything is melted.
For those who are familiar with seasonal lawn care, it’s pretty commonly known that March means it’s time to mow! This is exactly why we advise homeowners to get their lawn mower serviced in February.
However, if the weather conditions allow you to do so, you can begin by brushing with a broom to remove any leaves. Then, using a light rake, get rid of twigs and other debris around your yard.
During March, the temperatures start increasing high enough to spur the growth of more grass and weeds in your lawn, making it a busy month for major lawn projects. Before cutting, though, be sure to first rake your grass using a spring tine rake until the grass looks like it’s standing up for the mower. Then adjust your mower blades so they’ll only cut the tips.
February is also when you should take your lawn mower in for a service.
Once you’re finished mowing, create a polished and professional look by going around the edges of trees and any garden elements in your yard using a lawn strimmer. At the end of March, seasonal lawn care professionals advise homeowners to remove dead grass and moss with either a spring tine rake or electric lawn scarifier. Source: LawnandMower.com

3 Rooms to Redo This Spring Spring is the season of new beginnings, so is it any wonder that many Americans think about home improvement and brightening their decor when the weather warms? Simple updates to these three rooms can bring the cheerful perspective from the outside indoors and revive any room in time for warmer weather.
1. Make Your Bathroom Bloom Relaxed modernity is ideal for a bathroom, and a serene palette is a great way to create this calming oasis. Use the beach as your muse; pastels such as light blue and eggshell white will create an oceanfront vibe no matter where you live. To bring the coastal feel to the forefront, you can easily add waves to your walls with pre-cut rippled painter’s tape. Continue the theme of waves on your bathroom walls, accessories or even the shower curtain. The finishing touches tie any room together, and the bathroom is no exception. The right accent rug and towels will transform the look of your bath with minimal effort and deliver maximum style. Updating your decorative accents will complement your new spring color scheme, and leave the space feeling refreshed season after season.
2. Spring-Ready Sleeping Chambers Light hues are a great go-to for spring home decorating; utilize one of the hottest trends with a white-themed bedroom. Not only is white timeless and versatile, but it allows an array of interior design options. Add crisp white curtains to your windows
to brighten the room, and for a chic addition, add a delicate white canopy to soften the atmosphere even more. For a hint of color, add in shades of muted teals on accessories throughout the room. If your spring style calls for more color, add vibrant bursts throughout your bedroom. As the bed is the focal point of the master bedroom, make it the center of your attention as well. Fresh fabrics and linens are essential for spring, so opt for a delicate coverlet in your favorite pattern. Also, incorporate decorative vases filled with fresh flowers throughout the space, allowing the fragrance of spring to accompany your fresh decor.
3. Spring-Spruce the Living Room To kick off spring with color and character, add an assortment of patterned throw pillows to your living room. Mix and match fabrics and patterns – geometrics, florals and stripes pair well together. It will give your living area visual texture and is the perfect way to perk up this room for the season. If you’re not in the mood for a complete room redo, use your existing color palette as inspiration; simply add in complementary shades to create a modern and harmonious look.
Looking to turn heads with a simple spring update? Reposition your furniture. First, determine the main furniture piece in the room, and place it in a position that serves as the focal point. Next, rearrange your other furnishings, photos and artwork for a whole new look without spending a dime. Be sure to keep items from blocking any natural light - a well-lit room is great for any time of year, especially spring. Source: FrogTape.com; RisMedia

SECRETS TO PLAYROOM ORGANIZATION Throughout our daily lives, we often find ourselves with a fairly organized home. The kitchen is in order. The beds stay made most of the time. Our living room remains inviting for drop-by visits. However, as those with children may attest to, the playroom somehow stays the “Bermuda Triangle” of the house, confusing and messy enough to get lost in. Here are some secrets to getting that playroom under control.
PURGE IS THE WORD
Begin with four boxes: Keep, donate, trash, and other room. The toys that are broken, throw away without question. A toy that never held the interest of your child needs to be given away. Bath toys, clothing, the stolen remote control, or outdoors toys need to be put back in their proper places. If something is being held on to simply for nostalgia, i.e. little Johnny’s very first teddy bear, create a memory box or a special shelf for that item.
QUALITY NOT QUANTITY
Ask yourself: “Which toys does my child gravitate towards, and which toys does my child get bored with?” Perhaps not everything should be given away, but consider rotating the play things to create fresh interest. A clear bin or two can be filled with the less appealing items, labeled, and put into a closet. On a bi-weekly or monthly basis, switch out the playroom stash for a renewed sense of playtime.
LABEL, LABEL, LABEL
With so many different types of things to keep track of, it’s easy to become confused about what goes where. For the things that are keeping their permanent space in the playroom, designate containers and label them accordingly. For those with pre-readers in the home, not only include the word, but the picture of the item too. This serves a dual purpose of word recognition and getting toys back to the right spot.
TAME THE LOOSE PIECES
Things like board games and puzzles can easily get their pieces separated. Once just a few pieces are lost, the whole thing can no longer be used, so it’s important to keep these together. For puzzles, try framing the box cover and storing the puzzle pieces on the back of the frame. This serves as both decor and a practical way to keep it all together and up off the floor. For games, take them out of the box and store them in identical, easily stackable containers. Keep puzzles and board games out of reach, so you can keep track of what is being used. Be sure to establish the “one at a time” rule.
HIDE IT AWAY
Curtains can be used to cover and uncover the monstrosity of a toy shelf that sits in the room. Containers under a bed can be slid in after use. A bench with cube storage can be great as a reading nook, and even double as a bookshelf. A small ottoman that your child can sit on, that also has room for dress up clothes or other toys, will help contain the mess that no one will know is there. Don’t get discouraged if it takes a while for your children to understand the new system. They will get the hang of it. On the other hand, if the mess stays messy, take a deep breath, and enjoy your little ones because as we all know, “they grow up so fast!”

Exquisite
Window Treatments TO IMPRESS YOUR GUESTS by Rebecca Bradshaw
Just as an elegant picture frame can enhance a beautiful painting, exquisite window treatments are the finishing touch that can enhance your home’s décor. Whether you use bold patterns, flowing drapes, or sleek tailored curtains, window treatments can be used to make dramatic statements or subtlety underscore the mood of any room. Use window treatments to draw attention to your home’s architectural details such as vaulted ceilings or large Palladian windows. Luxurious silk floor to ceiling drapes backed by simple sheers add drama and sophistication to tall windows—the longer the curtains the more elegant the design. Drapes can either stop just short of the floor for rooms with high traffic, or can puddle for a more opulent look. Even if your windows don’t extend to the ceiling, mount flowing panels high, drawing the eye up to emphasize a room’s height and create the illusion of more space. Use classic finials and tiebacks for understated elegance. Pleated drapes hung from decorative rods are a window treatment staple, and can be topped with angular or scalloped valances for either a sophisticated or casual look. Pinched pleats at the top of panels add a fashionable, contemporary touch, while tabbed tops work well in more casual spaces. Fabric and pattern choices can match or complement the color and style the room’s furnishings. Soft, subtlety patterned drapes in neutral colors will help create a calm oasis, while the use of unexpected patterns and bold tones will add energy and visual impact to a room. These drapery styles work well with the current trend in window treatment hardware, which emphasizes simplicity and the use of natural materials. For elegant window dressings in formal rooms, tassel trimmed drapes in brocades or other rich fabrics are layered over sheers, and can be topped with cornices or valences for an exquisite, custom made look. Ornately scrolled metal hardware, crowns, and holdbacks trimmed with sparkling crystals give added opulence to this look. The same
34206.1.7.016.indd 1
elegance can be brought to bedrooms by creating layered window treatments in lighter fabrics such as voile or cotton. Use soft, romantic prints or bold colors and patterns to fit the room’s décor. Match curtains to wallpaper for added impact. Window dressings in bright colors, whimsical patterns, and fabric tiebacks can be the perfect finishing touch to a child’s room. If your home’s style is contemporary, dress your windows with grommet hung panels to create crisp folds and sleek lines. Lined raw silk and textured or metallic sheened fabrics in deep tones offer sophisticated drapery options, while bold prints and colors that starkly contrast with the rest of the space add dramatic visual impact. Simple polished nickel and chrome hardware will continue the contemporary look. With their soft folds and light blocking abilities, the function and simplicity of Roman shades have traditionally been used in more casual spaces such as family rooms and kitchens. With the current abundance of fabric choices and customized offerings, however, Roman shades are now adding both style and function to even the most formal room in the house. Heavy linens, geometric prints and wooden hardware are popular finishing design choices for the shades. No matter what your style, exquisite window treatments bring the perfect finishing touch to any room in your home.

How to Spend Your Tax Refund It’s always a pleasant surprise to get a big chunk of money back on your tax return. How should you spend that money, though? Instead of hitting the mall, where you’ll most likely make an impulse purchase, put that money in a place worth spending. Have you considered these ideas? 1. Update Your Home’s Fixtures. Updating fixtures in your home is another simple, low-cost way to remodel in a small but big way. Replace door handles, hinges, faucets, and light switch plates for an updated look throughout your home. Keeping up with new home design trends will resonate with new homebuyers because you’ll have all the latest styles. 2. Trim and Mouldings Installing crown moulding, baseboards or wainscoting is a sure-fire way to create a more refined look. Your new trim and moulding will add beautiful detail and elegance to your home as well as appeal to all types of homebuyers’ senses. 3. Make Kitchen Repairs Buyers want to be wowed by the kitchen, but that doesn’t mean you have to fork over tens of thousands of dollars to make that happen. Focus on making repairs that cost well under $500, like
tightening a leaky faucet or eliminating burn marks on countertops. For a cheap alternative to repainting your cabinets, consider updating your hardware in a modern finish. 4. Spruce Up the Exterior Your home’s exterior is the first impression for many buyers online and in person. Aside from keeping up with maintenance like mowing the lawn and trimming shrubs, assess the outside of your home for any repair work – a fading front door, cracked siding or a loose step – that needs to be completed before selling. 5. Upgrade the Bathroom Bathrooms can become a point of contention for buyers if they’re not in tip-top shape. Rather than taking on an expensive renovation, make minor upgrades that have an impact. Caulk the tub, re-grout tile, and install new fixtures.
Whether or not you’re getting your house ready to sell, these remodeling tweaks are easy, cost-effective, and will result in a great new look. They may be small, but these renovations make a huge impact, making your home feel like new!

6 TIPS T O D E E P C L E A N YO U R G A R AG E One thing on your long summer to-do list may be cleaning out the old garage. For most, this sounds easier than it actually is. Garages tend to house years of accumulated and forgotten items, especially if you have a large family. On top of that, there is years of dirt and grime on the floors from car tires and engines, bikes, lawnmowers, etc. Clearing everything out and cleaning your garage is a serious job. Below are six tips to help you make the most of the big clean out.
P i c k a dat e
To avoid putting off the task, choose a hard date on your calendar when you’ll be home and free for your garage clean out. Depending on the size of your garage, a full weekend may be necessary. Tell your family members about the date to make sure they will be around to pitch in.
G at h e r yo u r r es o u r c es
Stock up on large trash bags, visit your local grocery store or big-box store for discarded cardboard boxes, and get a big push broom to sweep out dirt. If you have a lot of stuff lurking in your garage that you need to toss, consider calling your county’s waste management service to schedule a bulk pickup or see if you can order a dumpster.
Ask for help
Do you need to borrow a friend’s pickup truck to lug your unwanted items to the dump? How about a power washer to clean the floor once it’s clutter-free? Ask around and line these things up in advance so that you’re ready to go.

Pile it right
At the start of your clean out, create three piles: to keep, to sell, and to donate. As you come across items in your garage, add them to their respective area and keep moving. Be firm in your decision; once something has landed in the sell or donate pile, try to resist temptation to go back and keep it.
Organize, organize, organize
Set yourself up to re-organize your space once it’s squeaky clean. Do you need to install more shelving units? Hooks and bins? Gather these items in advance.
S w e e p & p ow e r - wa s h
Once you’ve organized, move every item out of your garage and sweep out the loose dirt, rocks, leaves, etc. Then power-wash the floors and walls. Washing away a decade (or more!) of grime will really help your garage sparkle.

long run, green plumbing will end up lowering utility costs and also make both your home and the environment a healthier place.
Read the following green plumbing tips from Petri Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
INSULATE WATER PIPES: According to GreenBuilding.com,
heating water for homes accounts for as much as 30 percent of residential energy consumption. By insulating the pipes and using highgrade pipe insulation, it can lower the energy expenditure needed to heat your water.
INSTALL WATER SAVING FEATURES: In older homes,
plumbing features such as faucets, showerheads and toilets are as historic as the homes themselves. By replacing these dated units with modern, energy-efficient counterparts, you can reduce leaks, conserve water and reduce your energy bill.
water used by as much as 80 percent. A low-flow toilet only

ing? While there are so many ways to go green with your home, plumbing might present the most opportunity of all. In the
Plumbing covers a range of categories inside your home. From the drainage system to pipes and water heaters, to toilets and the sewer main. As you can see, there are a lot of options when it comes to going green with plumbing.
Newer and more efficient toilets can cut down the amount of
gallons of water each year. •
Install a tankless water heater, which uses much less energy than a standard water heater. Instead of wasting energy keeping a huge reservoir of hot water at all times, a tankless water heater heats the water only as it is needed.
•
Replacing a traditional shower head with a low-flow showerhead will reduce the traditional water usage by around 5070 percent. The homeowner can also install an even greener shower product, the steam shower. While traditional showers use 25 gallons of water per shower, a steam shower uses around 1 gallon of water per shower.
Inspect your home plumbing for leaks: Detecting leaks can be a difficult task, and in some cases, small leaks can be unnoticeable to an untrained homeowner. Hire a professional to help you hunt down hard to spot leaks.
