DESIGN TRICKS TO REVAMP YOUR HOME
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to spend a fortune or go to design school to revamp your home. “It’s all about simplicity,” says Susan Yoder, interior design expert for builder Clayton Homes. “A little goes a long way when it comes to home décor and living spaces. Only a few simple changes can make a big difference and allow you to create a room you’ll be itching to show off to friends and family.” To breathe new life into your space, Yoder recommends these tips.
POPS OF COLOR.

“Nothing livens up a room like a bright pop of color,” Yoder says. If you have neutraltoned furniture, add lamps, curtains and accessories in bold hues. If you’re up for a painting challenge, an accent wall is a great way to incorporate color into a space. Choose your favorite color from a throw pillow or wall art piece in the room to pull the look together.

VARYING TEXTURES.
A room tends to get boring when it focuses on only one texture, so it’s important to create a sense of balance. Try varying the fabric types on your sofa and curtains. Add in some metal or wooden accents to draw the eye around the room. You can even play with lighting to reflect off certain objects and create visual interest.
ANTIQUE FEATURE.

Choose an antique or unique piece of décor to be the inspiration for the room. This could be a rug, lamp, chair or even a chandelier – anything that gets you energized and motivated. Get creative and run with the theme it creates. Or if your style is more modern, an antique object will stand out among your contemporary décor.

The furniture collection in a room should form a restful, symmetrical layout. It’s all about balance. There should be between three and 10 feet between each seat. Whether you’re a new homeowner or have been handy with a wrench, snake and other tools for years, there are some situations that require more than a plumbing amateur’s skills. From the kitchen sink to the toilet and pipes underneath your home, these problems can occur at any time. As a homeowner,, you should know how to handle them and when to call a professional.
CLOGGED DRAINS OR TOIILETS When the water that’s sitting in a bathtub, toilet or sink won’t go down the drain, you have a problem. Start the repair process by first determining what caused the problem. Is it a clump of hair or a grease build-up? Something worse, perhaps? Whatever the case, finding out about the problem first is essential to finding a solution. Most toilet clogs can be handled with your trusty plunger. The clog in your drain will likely go away if you use a commercial grade drain cleaner. In this case, be sure to wear gloves and a protective mask at all times. If the th clog l persists i t after ft a few f times, ti it might i ht be b time ti to t call the professionals. Yoou don’t want to overdo it with the drain cleaner because you might end up hurting yourself and damaging the pipes. Professional plumbers have tools that can help identify the problem much easier, such as snakes and video cameras. A leaky fixture, such as a faucet, can be extremely annoying. Luckily, you only need a few tools t and some basic knowledge to fix this type of problem. m. First, remove the handle by removingg the screw that attaches it to the faucet. Then, try tightening the packing nut which is located at the base of thhe stem. After you’ve tightened this nut, place the handle back b onto the faucet and test to see if the leak is gone. If this simple process doesn’t work, you may need to replace som me necessary parts, such as washers or nuts, or it may be tim me to get a new faucet altogether.
BURST PIPE Regardless of the reason, a burst pipe can cause thouusands of dollars in damage if not rectified in an approopriate amount of time. The best way to fix a burst pipe is with th a C clamp. The first step is to turn off the water completely tely. Then,, pplace a piece p of rubber over the exposed p area of the pipe. Secure the rubber by placing a piece of wood od on top and then tightening down both pieces with a C claamp. Make sure you tighten the C clamp until both the piece ce of wood and rubber are secure. In most cases, burst pipes can only be fixed temporarily rily by homeowners. Once you’ve turned off the water andd secured the pipe, call a professional; they might havee to replace the pipe altogether.
NO HOT WA WATER Lack of hot water is an issue tthat millions of people across the United States experience on o a daily basis. If you have an electric water heater, somee of the causes may be a tripped circuit breaker, a bad tthermostat or a faulty electric heatinng element. Once you’ve finished the troubleshooting proceess, the best thing to do is to replace any parts that you fifind are broken.
