Introduction The Christmas Pixie lives in the Apple tree branches. He is busy going up and down. His job is to unite the sunlight to the earth, and other similar tasks. Every year, in winter, he peeps out through the branches and looks at the stars, and the falling drops of rain and snow. But he is sad because what he would love to do most in all the world is to meet the “singing sight” and he has never found it. When he goes to the pixies school they teach him many things and they tell him old stories and teach him the ‘Apple Dance’ that is somehow fun, but it is also a bit boring. Cepix, our pixie friend, is not interested in the Apple Tree, so all the pixies from the other branches are worried about what might happen to the Apple tree because of this! But now that it is winter, and there may be a chance of meeting with the “singing sight”, Cepix has no intention of worrying at all about next summer, and the next apples. Other pixies, neighbours of the same branch, say that this isn’t going to happen because the “singing sight” is more frightening than adding all other fears together but Cepix doesn’t believe it.

From time to time an old pixie calms all the chattering. “He shall get over it,” he says, but the rest of the branch neighbours fear he won’t get over his stubborn idea for the whole of wintertime.

Winter lasts a long time for them, and if he doesn’t get over it, what will happen when the flowers have to open, and the stamens have to be aligned? Cepix is also sometimes worried but not for whatever might happen in spring. He is looking under the leaves of all the plants that he knows. He wants to see what they remember about pixies that have met the “singing sight”.

He is studying all the memories, taken from the roots, to see if he can find something else. But the truth is, he is getting …
