Be aware of potential damage caused by your trees.

Simcoe Muskoka Tree Services Inc provides you with arborist consulting services, and one of the roles of an arboricultural consultant is to identify and communicate risks related to tree work. Simcoe Muskoka offers free arboricultural presentations for local community groups. Some of the areas of spring are construction work and areas related to landscaping in general. However, have you ever considered the problems that your existing trees may be causing you? Sometimes people plant trees too close to their homes or other items that can be harmed. Harm from a tree can come typically in the form of falling wood pieces, or underground. While many of us see the potential of limbs and danger, this is another article which we will be posting soon. This one is going to focus on the unknown, underground area. You may not realize that underneath the ground, your trees (or your neighbour’s trees) can cause some really huge problems. Some of these can lead to really expensive repair work for the unsuspecting property owner! Roots can cause structural damage to your home foundation, cause problems with water pipes, sewer pipes; drainage pipes culverts, septic systems and wells. If you are on a property with older pipes, then this potential issue is only compounded many times. Roots can easily break older pipes, interfere with the flow within them and ultimately end up costing you tens of thousands of dollars in repair. It is a good idea to know what you are planting where, and have Certified Arborists help you not only make the initial decision but to review your trees on a regular basis. More on that later. If you have a septic system, be aware that tree roots can also grow into septic systems and interfere with their operation. Tree roots can also grow into the leach beds and into the pipes feeding the system. Older septic systems are more susceptible, with potential issues for the tanks as well. Or, similar issues can exist for wells, with potential issues for the pipes and the well itself, depending upon age. For questions call a Consulting Arborist. Simcoe Muskoka Tree Services Inc. www.simcoemuskokatreeservices.ca Note: a follow up article on Certified Arborists will be published. But suffice to say that you MUST always hire a Certified Arborist. Not all tree workers are arborists (despite what they say). Performing work on a dog does not make you a veterinarian. Performing work on a person does not make you a medical doctor. Neither does performing work on a tree make you an arborist. You must study the profession and pass and exam. (Sometimes several exams) All genuine Certified Arborists will have credentials they can show you and will have a Certified Arborist Number. The vast majority of workers in the industry are “Tree Workers” and not “Arborists”. Be clear and know the difference.
