A conductor is formed by several wires of one material or either of several stranded in concentric layers. When the conductor has more than one layer, the successive layers must be stranded in opposite directions.
ACSR Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced
These conductors are formed by several wires of aluminum and galvanized steel, stranded in concentric layers. The wire(s) which form the core are made by galvanized steel and external layer(s) are of aluminum. Its characteristics are, low weight combined with its high breaking strength making them a solution for long spans. Due to the great diameter of the conductor electric losses of Corona Effect are reduced.

OVERHEAD CONDUCTORS
AAAC AACSR All Aluminium Alloy Conductor and Aluminium Alloy Conductor Steel Reinforced
These conductors are formed by several wires of Aluminium alloy and galvanized Steel, stranded in concentric layers. The wire(s) which form the core are made by galvanized steel or Aluminium alloy and external layer(s) are of alloy. The Aluminium alloy belongs to the Aluminium –Magnesium-Silicon group, which is also known in Europe as Almelec. The Aluminium alloy steel reinforced conductors have a much higher strength and its usage is suitable on long spans or under very severe mechanical conductors.

OVERHEAD CONDUCTORS
ACAR Aluminium Conductor Alloy Reinforced

OVERHEAD CONDUCTORS
ACSR/AW Aluminium Conductor Aluminium Clad Steel Reinforced
These conductors are formed by several wires of Aluminium and Aluminium clad steel, stranded in concentric layers. The wire(s) which form the core are made by Aluminium clad steel and external layer(s) are of Aluminium. Aluminium clad steel (ACS) wire is a highly resistant steel wire, covered with a thick coating of pure Aluminium. In comparision with galvanized steel wire ACS as the same tensile strength, it has a lower density, it is more resistant to corrosion and it provides a greater electrical conductivity. Mainly due to these characteristics, it is the ideal material substitutive of galvanized steel on ACSR.

OVERHEAD CONDUCTORS
Earth Wires ACS 20SA
These conductors are formed by several wires of Aluminium Clad Steel, stranded in concentric layers. Aluminium Clad Steel (ACS) wire is a highly resistant steel wire, covered with a thick coating of pure Aluminium. In comparison with galvanized steel wire ACS as the same tensile strength, it has a lower density, it is more resistant to corrosion and it provides a greater electrical conductivity. Mainly due to these characteristics, it is the ideal material substitutive of galvanized steel on earth wires.

OVERHEAD CONDUCTORS
SPECIAL CONDUCTORS With the perspectives for next decades in terms of growth of population, reaching over 9.7 billion people by year 2050, Transmission and Distribution operators have a great challenge ahead. There is a clear need to reinforce and improve existing grids to dispatch energy for an over consumption reaching 75% compared to year 2000. Besides, an important percentage of these existing grids are aged, built +40 years back in time having constrictions to their development. According to the agreement reached by international community within 2030 targeting a 40% reduction of CO2 emissions, the generation of 27% on renewables energies and the improvement of energy efficiency by 27% Trefinasa has worked on R&D projects to provide improved conductor designs supporting the Operators to reach these challenging goals. As a result, Trefinasa proposes Compact or Low Losses conductors with alternative geometries to the regular round wires. The most appropriate mixture of the trapezoidal or round shaped wires stranded around the ACS core, gives as a result conductors able to provide less losses and CO2 emissions with a reduced investment for an improved Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and quicker Return of Investment (ROI).

BIGGER CONDUCTIVE SURFACE
Compact or Low Losses Conductors
The main difference on Compact or Low Losses Conductors compared to the conventional conductors is that the layers are made of shaped wires instead of round wires. By shaping the wires into trapezoids the interstices between the round wires are practically eliminated creating a bigger conductive surface. There are two possible designs when applying shaped wires; • Design for Equivalent Cross Section; Keeping the cross section as for a design with round wires, by stranding shaped wires you are obtaining a conductor with reduced external diameter. This is due to the reduction of the interstices between wires which, at the same time results in lower wind and ice loads while maintaining the same ampacity. • Design for equivalent diameter; By maintaining the same outer diameter as for a conductor made of round wires, when applying shaped wires the conductor increases the presence of Aluminium by +/-20% which, it is translated into a reduction of electrical resistance and increase of the current capacity. Trefinasa´s Technical Department performs an analysis of the requirements, needs and targets raised by end customer in order to select the most convenient geometrical conductor design.

SPECIAL CONDUCTORS
High Temperature and Low Sag Conductors - HTLS
Transmission and Distribution Operators need to adapt their grids to the consumption required by end customers (private, public, industry, etc…) securing the dispatch of energy with the highest reliability & efficiency possible at every moment, specially under contingency events (N-1 or N-2 situations) and attending the peaks of demand without falling into blackout situation. According to the circumstances of each grid and the regulations per country, it is complex and time consuming the construction of new lines. This causes delays to the development road maps defined by Operators with the consequent latent risk to overload the system. However, with the implementation of HTLS conductors, grid Operators obtain an immediate added value on OHL benefiting from the existing rights of ways and infrastructure; the replacement of the aged standard conductor by a HTLS will provide up to x2 dispatching capacity with a reasonable investment (improved TCO).
TREFINASA offers two different HTLS technologies with an attractive economical/ performance ratio. • GAP Type technology (GTACSR, GZTACSR conductors) • ACSS/TW technology with ACS or galvanized steel cores • Both technologies manufactured according to International standards or tailor-made These technologies are running for +30 years and are clearly driven to the refurbishment and optimization of the existing OHLs. Trefinasa can adapt the design of the conductor to the parameters of the line to be uprated. Our team of experts will analyse the limitations and requirements of the OHL to provide the most convenient solution for each case. Please contact us for individual study & quote. High Temperature and Low Sag Conductors - HTLS
ACSS
The conductor mechanical behavior is governed by the steel core. When operation at high temperature or after first wind or ice loads, the annealed Aluminum wires will elongate plastically transferring all the mechanical responsibility to the steel core. In such a way, the conductor will behave according to the thermal expansion coefficient and modulus of elasticity of the core. The technology is well-known and proven for over 35 years. Trefinasa can also propose & deliver compatible accessories and provide assistance on site during installation.

HTLS Technology designed to secure the dispatch of energy under N-1 or N-2 situations
Owing to the fact that conductors sagging is made by pulling only the steel core, the knee point temperature (or temperature above which the conductor works in low sag condition) is obtained at installation temperature, not needing conductor pretensioning to achieve the low sag properties.

If its transportation is carried out using a forklift truck, the coil should be held side on, always lifting it by the handles and never directly against the cable. Si su transporte se realiza mediante carretilla elevadora (toro), ésta debe coger la bobina de forma lateral, siempre levantándola por las alas y nunca directamente contra el cable.
2//
It can also be handled using bars that are positioned on the central axis of the coil. This system should be used when handling is undertaken using cranes, and should never be performed only with chains. También se puede manipular mediante barras que se colocan en el eje central de la bobina. Este sistema se debe utilizar cuando la manipulación se realiza mediante grúas y nunca se debe realizar solo con cadenas.
3//
Coils with cables should never be stored or transported lying down, as this position may lead to cable loops unravelling, in turn making subsequent back-winding difficult. Las bobinas con cable nunca se deben almacenar ni transportar tumbadas, ya que en esta posición se provoca la caída de vueltas de cable y, a su vez, dificulta su posterior trascanado.
