A SELECTION OF MUST-HAVE LUXURY ITEMS FROM DESIGN TO FASHION

What do luxury, design and fashion taste like? Creativity is not enough, every designer must also have the ability to summarize and to play the part of people. My work as a designer has been enriched over the years with a shared experience, very close to people: my personal blog about design. Sharing ideas and visions in the world of design and its evolution has always led me to broader considerations on the concept of luxury. As well as fashion is not homologation, in the same way, luxury cannot be conceived as a mere economic factor. Expensive does not necessarily mean luxurious. Luxury is rather a refusal of compromise. It is above all personalization. Fashion and design are two projections of ourselves, the first focused on our person, the second on spaces that surround us. And luxury is also the ability to satisfy one’s desires. My aesthetic taste is led by an elegant eccentricity, separated from time, but consistent with my emotions. Luxury brands have begun to dialogue with their markets with a more human-to-human approach. More stories of life lived, experiences, emotions, more contact with reality. Fashion and design have accepted the challenge of enriching their collections with more human-centred themes. Luxury fashion and luxury design now are closer to people than ever. Andes armchair is a tribute to strength, which emerges and explodes thanks to the choice of the rich cotton velvet for the padding. Charisma and metamorphosis are the leitmotif of Essex, a small armchair that with its velvet knows how to impose itself in every space in which it is inserted. Functionality broadens the horizons and now imposes itself to confer aesthetic pleasure and satisfaction. Decadence bookcase proudly exhibits its functionality, indeed, it elevates its symbolism. Fashion is inspired by real personalities, it focuses on the iconic power of the muses. Transgression and inspiration come together in Talitha, the sandal by Yves Saint Laurent that bears the name of his favourite model.

The design pays homage to the music and the verve of Tina Turner in the Turner floor lamp concept. Not just stories, luxury is also expressed in shapes, sizes and materials. Diamond Emerald stands out for its refined and unusual lines and luxurious colours, with a personality that magnetizes the attention. Also, the Pixel cabinet has this eccentric role, above all because it boasts a strong mix between design and craftsmanship. How an icon becomes a must-have? With reverence for the past and openness to the future. And this is how the Minimal Baroque eyewear collection pays tribute to the Baroque art. Creative experimentation, meticulous craftsmanship and exuberance reflect Newton, an ingenious idea. Design, as well as fashion, is an attitude, and it should be sensual and exciting, as Sottsass has taught us. Luxury is for everyone, but not for everybody. Pixel cabinet by Boca do Lobo

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW // CM: Which are the major themes that will dominate the fashion industry? KG: We are definitely seeing a trend where women are designing for men. Stella McCartney, Isabel Marant, Claire Weight Keller, to mention a few. Also, this year Véronique Nichanian is to celebrate her 30 years anniversary as menswear designer at Hermès. Congratulations and well done! CM: Which prints and patterns? KG: Rainbow stripes! Why chose one colour when you can have them all? Dolce & Gabbana, Thom Browne and Missoni worked the whole colour palette this season. PVC will also be impossible to avoid this season, Chanel is making sure of that. Weather it is a bag, hat or coat, PVC will be a fashionable choice. But, please, let it be recycled! CM: What should we dump? KG: Never dump anything. See fashion as a cycle! I have created my own personal second hand store in my basement. Here I keep all items which I’m not wearing at the moment. KG: Sustainability. CM: Beyond the current fashion capitals, where do you expect the next wave of exciting fashion ideas to come from? KG: Copenhagen! First of all, Copenhagen Fashion Week is currently the most visited Fashion Week in Northern Europe. Also, Danish fashion models are storming the international fashion scene and work as great ambassadors. Where Danish fashion used to be focused mainly on us, Scandis, we are also seeing an internationalisation through global events and acquisitions. CM: What’s the biggest stayer of the year? KG: The tote bag. We have an excessive use of plastic bags. Several African countries have actually made a prohibition against them. Tote bags are a great and fashionable alternative and can turn your outfit laidback-chic in an instant! CM: If we buy one thing today for the next year, what should it be? KG: A Loewe bag. A lot of concrete, a lot of glass, a lot of iron. A project that, for me, is a new experience. CM: What is the best compliment you have received for your work? GF: It’s very complicated. Thanks to the differences between the projects, I think the best possible compliment is the people who see the houses or apartments and buy them. It is the recognition of my work. This is the best compliment I can have. CM: Do you have some references/influences? Who are they? GF: I am inspired mostly by interior design projects that I think are beautiful, but I am completely independent, like a writer. I work with a blank sheet and I do my project. I am inspired by the location of the project that I will do. And I am completely intuitive. I do not have preconceived ideas for my projects. Materials and objects influence me a lot too.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW //

CM: How would you describe your signature style? Did the time you’ve spent in Amsterdam influenced it in any way? FB: I’m young and I’m still building my personal style, but I can definitely say that my style travels between vintage and the essential, between the decoration and the femininity, between the lightness and the purity of the shapes. Form, colour, beauty, trends are fundamental to me and my research. CM: What would you say are your core inspirations? What drives you? FB: The process starts often with an inspiration taken by the past, or from nature. I like the existing objects that man has created over the times. I like to think of restoring a new life to past epochs, riveting modern objects. For me, research is fundamental to creating an object. I don’t stop and I find inspiration in any field. With my projects, I want to move, to touch the customer, that’s my aim. In a world where we are full of products, I need that my products say something, they have to talk to the world and transmit peace and elegance. CM: You were the only woman amongst the awardees at the January edition of the Rising Talents Awards. What do you have to say regarding the role of women in design, and, more specifically, in Italian Design? FB: For years, men in design were more than women, and many women of design were the wives of great designers. Now everything is changed, I think that now many women are really assuming this profession. Despite this, there are those who think we are only good at decorating. I think that the feminine touch is essential in the product design world. I think that the woman, as “creator”, is able to create products with a strong emotional value. CM: What’s next for you? What are your expectations and what do you hope for 2018? FB: I have so many projects in the drawer... The next step is the Milano Design Week, where I will present some new products, including a table, a chair, a lamp, wallcoverings and a bookcase! With Mingardo, the company that I follow as an art director, I will exhibit, in Via Paisiello 6, a new pole of the organization “Ventura Lambrate”. I think it will be a really beautiful place to visit, with many interesting companies.

Gucci Handcuffs If you are looking for the perfect gift, it may just be a pair of vintage Gucci handcuffs, on sale for US$90,000 (€72,468). The cuffs were designed by Tom Ford in 1998, and according to W magazine, have an interesting backstory. They were reportedly made when an Italian socialite was sentenced to 29 years in prison for hiring a hitman to kill her husband, Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of Gucci founder Guccio Gucci. The handcuffs were positioned in the window of the flagship Gucci store in Florence on the day of her conviction - “a sign, if one were needed, that the world of high fashion has no use for ugly family feuds, except as a source of dark, sardonic humour”, wrote The Independent. Back in 2009, a pair was sold by the auction house Christie’s for about US$2000 (1611€), while another pair is currently on display at the official Museo Gucci in Florence. With an adjustable length, they are made of solid silver and come with the original dust bag and a contemporary Gucci box”.

This whisky was distilled at the Glenlivet Distillery during at the height of the Second World War when only a handful of distilleries in Scotland produced whisky. On the 14th January 1943, Cask 121, a first fill Sherry hogshead selected by John and George Urquhart, was filled with new-make spirit and carefully stowed at the distillery. The meandering River Spey provides a unique closure to the handcrafted wooden box. Hand blown and bespoke, the decanter’s base and stopper are adorned with gold engravings of the land contours surrounding the Glenlivet Distillery. Every detail of Private Collection Glenlivet 1943 by Gordon & MacPhail alludes to the decades of experience and patience poured into nurturing the whisky to maturation.

From mid-century style to industrial design hotels, Studio Simonetti is a mandatory reference in what concerns luxurious interior design projects that evoke emotions and passion through every single detail. Splendido Bay Luxury Spa Resort was no exception since the Italian interior design firm carried out an amazing work renovating the building, as well as designing the interiors of the five-star hotel. In the end, they provided a luxurious hotel that features dazzling mid-century lamps and some of the most breathtaking views ever. The main goal of this hotel design project was to transform the pre-existing holiday village into a luxury resort that is also a place of “otium”, this is, that brings out the calmness and serenity of its surrounding area. Within easy reach of the historic cities of Mantua, Verona and Brescia, Splendido Bay Luxury Resort has a simple, yet classy décor, that was inspired by the need to mix contemporary and unique design pieces with the typically more classic part of luxury hotels. It’s definitely a fancy way to make an entrance in this hotel, located in one of the most beautiful places across Italy. With 57 glamourous rooms, the five-star hotel marries everything that is sophisticated, refined and luxurious.

THE MODERN CLASSIC SPLENDOR OF SAVAGE GROUND HOUSE

Savage Ground House, Vila Kozin, Ukraine

Savage Ground House, Vila Kozin, Ukraine

Savage Ground House, Vila Kozin, Ukraine

PROJECTS //

When we start to talk about the Savage Ground project that took place in Ukraine, at Villa Kozin, we have to highlight the powerful marble columns and their strength, the details of the crystals that reflect purity and subtlety, and the yellow metal that symbolises the inexhaustible energy and heat. We sat down with the Rosko Design studio professionals that were responsible for the project. They’ve explained to us that they used the principle of symmetrical arrangement of objects, as in the traditional classical style, and complemented the interior with modern art objects that reflect the philosophy of our days. As we listened to CEO Anatoly Roskovsko and Designer Katerina, we realised they used many sources of soft light to unobtrusively emphasise the main accents in the rooms, as well as the contrast of dark and light tones, to create a harmonious palette in the interior. It’s impossible not to notice the decor items of the world’s leading brands, such as WALTER KNOLL, DelightFULL, LUXXU and others in this project. Inspired by the abstract work of Catherine Severac, it became the key scene in the living room of the house. “In the hall, we used a lot of warm light, which gently and elegantly fought in the gloss of floor marble. Crystal and gilding of massive chandeliers give the interior a special atmosphere and luxury. [...] For this hall, we decided to choose a special individual element - aquariums in the floor. Of course, the peculiarities of their operation was taken into account, the construction and glazing of the aquariums were carried out under the guidance of competent specialists. Therefore, the owners don’t have to worry about their strength, but simply enjoy unusual designs and surprise the guests”. It’s undeniable that the columns turned to be a striking accent to this room. Although they perform a basic function (to separate the dining area from the common space), they add a sense of order and sobriety hard to achieve. As a matter of fact, they organically fit into the interior as the grey marble highlights the glowing blocks at the bottom of each column. Thus, it seems that the columns are floating above the floor, radiating warm light.

“The choice of furniture was based on the WALTER KNOLL brand, which attracted the designers with its laconic forms.” To complement the unusual composition, they chose the Brubeck XL Wall Lights from the brand DelightFULL. Its extravagant form, reminiscent of a musical organisation, perfectly emphasises the generally vertical orientation of the space. Developing the interior of this living room, the designers decided to add a fireplace, which was framed by elegant grey structures and pendant hanging lamps. The presence of high ceilings means the possibility of installing massive designer lamps. This time, they decided to fill the space with a chic chandelier from the Portuguese brand LUXXU. Made of brass and elegant crystal, it created a luxurious atmosphere and brought even more glam to the living room. “High windows let in a lot of light, so even the coolest shades do not seem gloomy, and the noble texture of marble plays a new pattern in the daylight. [...] We decided to make the sleeping area completely soft. From the ceiling, the velvet wall upholstery smoothly turns into a wide bed and ends with a wide carpet of a grey-coffee hue. At the wall, decorated with a dark glass, there was a small banquet. Here, we decided to add an unusually curved lamp that seems to frame this part of the room and serves as local lighting. Opposite the bed, traditionally equipped with a TV-zone, the area is complemented by a design of laconic drawers. We’ve decided to highlight the wall using a decorative panel in ashy tones, the print of which remotely resembles the silhouettes of flowering trees. In order to bring a piece of Renaissance art to our bedroom, we placed a bust of Venus Milosskaya made of white stone. This zone is equipped with a high mirror with a perimeter illumination. We also picked up a small designer pouffe and, above the table, we decided to install a poetic pendant lamp in the form of hovering moon birds”. The Savage Ground house definitely turned out to be a project that defies the laws of aesthetic.

PARIS IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA

WITH A JAMES BOND IRREVERENT TOUCH “Everybody knows that Audrey Hepburn said “Paris is always a good idea”. But how many of us know that this city, more than a state of mind, is a state of art and design? ” Everybody knows that Audrey Hepburn said “Paris is always a good idea”. But how many of us know that this city, more than a state of mind, is a state of art and design? Yes, it’s not that obvious. Usually, we associate Paris simply with romance. And we forget about the anonymous painters. And we forget about Montmartre (how can it be?). And we forget about art and design. And then, when we realize, we forget a little about ourselves, too. Somewhere in Clichy - in the 9th arrondissement of Paris - there is a stunning place, almost taken out of a movie, that was the subject of a home makeover by interior design studio [10surdix]. This French team created an inspiring modern home filled with industrial accents and a mid-century sideboard that you won’t ever forget. In the centre of this French movie, there is an English star, as big as James Bond itself – the Monocles Sideboard. This movie-inspired sideboard makes all the difference in the room. As soon as you see it, you feel that you’re in a James Bond movie and, damn it, that you are James Bond himself. To decorate a place with a 70s groove couldn’t have been easier since its gold plated brass lights up a room all by itself. The monocles circles are engraved on the back and side of the unit, giving it an extreme character and high-end look. Retro lovers and mid-century aficionados become admired with such a décor beauty. This renovated house, entirely designed by the French trio, displays an open plan living very characteristic of industrial interiors. The more modern and slightly bohemian look was achieved not only with Essential Home’s Monocles sideboard but also with DelightFULL’s minimalist Clark chandelier. Deciding to use an oversized mirror simply placed against the wall, they made a way to convey a relaxed vibe in such a wide space as this living room. The concrete wall behind the television attributed a special touch with the handpainted flowers on the top. The canopy between the master bedroom and the corridor was handmade especially for this sole purpose in the studios’ workshops near Paris. The wall fixtures Brubeck wall sconces are also bespoke pieces from the mid-century lighting brand DelightFULL. During your next trip to Paris, don’t forget to see this irreverent piece in Clichy.

The Balmoral - Palm Court

FIRST STOP EDINBURGH Edinburgh is the starting point for your journey. Although it is the capital of Scotland, it is not a busy city. You can easily walk and visit all the main landmarks available. Go up the Royal Mile, the main road of the city’s historical centre until you reach one of the jewels of Scotland: Edinburgh Castle. This is where kings and queens were crowned and where a lot of Scotland’s most important historic landmarks took place. Take your time to explore the castle and absorb every single detail of its history. On your way back, make sure to stop by the vibrant and colourful Grass Market, an area in Edinburgh’s old town, where you can find endless ideas for your next projects, due to the great variety of independent merchants, designers and artisans. Although the Grass market is nowadays a must-go place for Design and Art lovers, between the 14th and the 19th century, the scenery was a bit different, since its main square used to be the place where executions took place. One of the most famous executions was Maggie Dickson’s, a local woman, who survived her death sentence and led to a big change in the laws of that time. (Curious about this story? Visit the-grassmarket.com and read more about Maggie Dickson’s faith) Her name is now one of Edinburgh’s best-known bars. Then, go up Calton Hill, UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can find several monuments and a unique view over the city, which makes it the perfect spot to take pictures and enjoy the city view. Edinburgh has a lot more to offer, so make sure you don’t miss anything.

SECOND STOP BLANTYRE On your way to the third destination, Inverness, you have to stop by Blantyre on the outskirts of Glasgow. If you love a luxury historical experience like CovetED does, do take time to visit and stay at the Crossbasket Hotel. A spectacular 17th-century building with nine palatial bedrooms including a four-storey bridal tower, opulent public rooms, grand ballroom and fine-dining restaurant from Albert & Michel Roux Jr. Although the building is a magnificent castle, the Crossbasket opened its doors only two years ago, but has already established itself as one of the best hotels in Scotland and was recently awarded the coveted Best Newcomer or Back on the Scene Award at the CondÊ Nast Johansens Annual Awards for Excellence 2016. Each of the nine en-suite bedrooms is named after a historical custodian of the castle and finished with stunning period windows, bed dressings and antique furniture. As you drive by the gates of the Hotel, the castle is immediately seen, with a beautiful garden surrounding it. And when you enter the hotel, you are immersed in the luxurious feeling of a 17th-century castle, its cosiness and comfort. But the best comes when you wake up in the morning, open the windows and see a vast beautiful garden and river right in front of your eyes. So relaxing, so beautiful, so inspiring! For dinner, you must try the chef’s menu, a typically Scottish experience we tried and approved! The selection of international wines was superb and really complimented the wonderful menu. THIRD STOP INVERNESS Inverness is the capital of the breathtaking Highlands. If you are curious about the name, Inverness means “the mouth of the Ness river”. It is, as you already guessed, the neighbour of the famous Loch Ness. There is so much to see. This is the place to stop and plan your tour to the Highlands. Unmissable: Loch Ness, of course, and not because of the lake’s pet monster, Nessie (good

Rocpool Reserve Room

ROCPOOL RESERVE - The Boutique Hotel Experience Rocpool Reserve offers a different kind of luxury getaway. With only 11 rooms, the hotel focuses on elegance and extreme comfort, rather than on opulence. There are four kinds of rooms to choose from, each with a contemporary feel from chic, hip to decadent. Each of the rooms features emperor-size beds and some even feature outdoor hot tubs and balconies. In-room massage treatments are available upon request. We had a wonderful dinner at the Hotel’s Restaurant, at a roundtable overseeing the city of Inverness. Chez Roux is the name of the restaurant, which is overseen by legendary French chef Albert Roux. We chose mushroom risotto, one of the best risottos we have ever tasted, cooked with Scottish ingredients, sourced locally, with a classic French twist. Definitely a must-try. LAST STOP SUNNY ABERDEEN Yes, the city is known as sunny Aberdeen because it is one of the most pleasant cities in Scotland weather-wise, and the day we chose to visit it, we were not deceived. We were lucky enough to find a sunny winter day, in which the cold was not a problem due to the warm rays of sunbathing the castle’s ruins. Things to see: Old town of Aberdeen, with well-preserved ancient buildings and streets. For shopping, make sure you stroll down Belmont Street. And finally do not miss the opportunity to visit Stonehaven, a beautiful city by the sea, with the tastiest Fish & Chips of Scotland, which is just 2 miles away from another one of Scotland’s most amazing castles. Dunnottar Castle is a ruined medieval fortress. The buildings we see today are mainly from the 15th and 16th centuries, and the Castle itself played an important role in the history of Scotland, being a strategic point during the 18th century Jacobite uprisings. The ruins of the castle are spread over 1.4 hectares and offer one of the most stunning views ever, though its seaside steep cliffs.

As you enter the hotel, you immediately get a feeling of warmth and comfort offered by the fireplace and very comfortable couches in the lobby. It has welcomed many high profile guests, from the British Royal Family to foreign dignitaries, Hollywood actors, Rockstars and legendary golfers. The seven suites and 33 bedrooms, each named after a Scottish castle, are all exclusively designed as a restful, elegant refuge for both the business and leisure traveller. But it’s the facilities of the Hotel that make it so unique. The Hotel has a very slick artificial grass putting green for Golf lovers, a Gym and Spa, which we tried and was one of the best experiences of our Scottish tour, as well as the Conservatory Restaurant, of course, which offers the best local Scottish cuisine including Scottish Beef, along with fish, lobster and seafood. But The Drawing Room Bar is something else. It boasts an extensive wine list of over 400 bins, plus over 100 Single Malt Whiskies and an impressive collection of Scottish Gins. HOTELS WE COVET // CM: In your opinion what makes the Hotel Sacher different from the other hotels in Austria and Vienna? RH: The Hotel Sacher Wien has owed its exceptional position in the international luxury hotel sector to its unique blend of charming and living tradition, excellent service and state-of-theart furnishings for more than 140 years. Today, the owner families Gürtler and Winkler and their team grant their guests the highest quality, passion, and international flair, as well as a level of excellence, which is inextricably linked with the name, Sacher. This unique and exclusive atmosphere is eminently appreciated by our guests. To maintain these high standards it is not only imperative to constantly adapt and invest, but a crucial point for us, in particular, is to sustain the hotel’s private ownership. This allows faster decisions to be made and more individuality. This has been the base for the successful development of the brand Sacher and the Original Sacher-Torte. CM: What are the hotel’s concept and history? RH: The “Sacher” story began in 1832 when Franz Sacher created the world famous Original Sacher-Torte. His son Eduard opened the hotel with his wife Anna Sacher, who managed the hotel on her own after his death. This was very uncommon since women’s rights still were very restricted back then. Ever since then, the hotel has been family run. After the death of Anna Sacher, the hotel was bought by the Gürtler and Siller families who always ensured regular renovations and improvements to maintain the well-known “Sacher Experience”. The Hotel Sacher went over to the Gürtler family after the death of Mrs Siller in 1962 and is now operated by the 4th generation of this family. CM: What makes you prouder in what you are doing? What are your dreams for the Sacher in the upcoming years? RH: Developing and strengthening the brand internationally and working and achieving innovations with an excellent team. CM: Would you like to tell us some funny stories that happened in the hotel or maybe some important moments or important guests who stayed here? RH: The famous “Picture Gallery” in the hotel shows the grand collection of portraits of famous guests who stayed at the “Sacher” since the times of Anna Sacher. Certainly a hotel could tell endless stories and mysteries of its guests but, of course, we cannot tell them since the privacy of our guests is one of our highest priorities. CM: Does the Hotel host events? What kind of events? RH: Events for special occasions such as the grand dinner prior to the Opera Ball, events with artists, on the occasion of premiers,… But our event spaces can also be rented exclusively for private events for up to 100 guests. CM: If you had to describe the Hotel Sacher Wien in a word and in a brand which one would be? RH: Excellence and being part of the most private 5* experience. THE CHRISTOPHER LONDON, UK

WORLD’S FINEST RESTAURANTS //

Located in the heart of Central London’s theatre-land we found a timeless martini bar and American restaurant, housed in an ornate Grade II listed building, Christopher’s Covent Garden. Inside we have three differently stylish floors: a high-ceilinged dining room reached by a sweeping staircase, ground floor art-deco martini bar and private Club Room. CovetED was there and we witnessed a place with a touch of elegance and style that takes pride in its food, drink and service. In 2013, the place suffered a major refurbishment made by the London-based firm De Matos Ryan in collaboration with Christopher’s owners. Christopher’s exudes glamour and revelry; De Matos Ryan has celebrated the ornate and exceptional character of the existing building and the atmosphere of heady decadence is embodied in the fabric of the design, earning Christopher’s the World Interiors News Restaurant Design Award in 2013, and Best Restaurant or Bar in a Heritage Building in the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2014.

The Martini Bar contains a theatrical and atmospheric drinking parlour, while the dining room is a much brighter space with expansive windows overlooking London’s Theatreland. ” The Club Room and Bar shares the design language of the main spaces, incorporating mirror-lined walls and a brass-clad bar so that the spaces are distinct yet unified. To light up the three rooms, the interior design studio selected a Portuguese lighting brand, DelightFULL. As you walk in the door at Omakase, you feel as if you were stepping into an exclusive yet approachable sushi restaurant in Tokyo. Wait staff is dressed in casual, custom-made Japanese kimonos and display authentic Japanese etiquette. The decor is extremely elegant, yet simple, reminiscent of traditional dining establishments in Japan. Designed by San Francisco-based interior designer Aya Jessani, along with Feng and Yu, this relaxing, Zenlike approach also remains a strong focus on Omakase’s decor and lighting choices. Chef Yu offers two different fixed-price tasting menus, both offering traditional, yet exquisite, fare. Guests are able to experience new menu options every time they visit, as fish selections are changed almost daily. To ensure the highest quality and freshness, Omakase’s fish is imported directly from the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo three times per week, and prepared with recipes and processes proprietary to Chef Yu and Omakase. The impressive beverage collection boasts some of the best sake available directly from Japan. The sake is served in a distinctly beautiful line of Japanese, handmade pewter cups and pitchers from the only pewter art craft speciality shop in Japan. SPRING/SUMMER 2018 HAUTE COUTURE PARIS

The Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris is one of the most important weeks in the industry. If you are looking for ways to start sneaking in some of those Spring 2018 trends, let us serve as some inspiration with the best looks from the week. There are a few words that you can always count on hearing when the Haute Couture Fashion Week comes around: unreal, stunning, exquisite, dramatic beauty, innovative and more. The beauty game includes the essence of the dream, at the Christian Dior show, to the floral and elements of classic couture as volume, ruffles and bows in the Valentino collection. Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris gave us beautiful and memorable moments.

Zuhair Murad presented its Spring 2018 Haute Couture collection with pieces that seemed to be heavily influenced by Indigenous cultures. The models wore a feather planted into the back of each hairstyle. “Most of the time, I am inspired by the past, and this is a kind of a homage and respect to the people who left us a very beautiful heritage of art, craftsmanship, and design, said Zuhair Murad.

Looking to combine artisanal tradition with contemporary ideas, Italian designer Pierpaolo Piccioli unveiled his Spring/Summer collection. The Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Spring Haute Couture collection for the Italian house was every fashion lover’s dream come to life. The runway was full of a multitude of spring hues, including hot pink, lavender and seafoam green. Beautiful, rebellious and dramatic, the Dior Spring/Summer 2018 Haute Couture show was inspired by celebrating women artists. There were no bags and only a couple of shoe styles.

The Chanel show was inside of a French garden. Karl Lagerfeld had recreated one in the confines of the Grand Palais, down to the trellises twined with climbing roses and urns spilling blooms, and the guests took their seats in an intimate walled garden circling a fountain centrepiece. Lagerfeld’s pick of the bunch for next season included rose satin styles with tulip-shaped skirts. We can describe the Ralph and Russo SS18 haute couture show as a fairytale, and that’s exactly what the fashion house delivered. Quite classic, surreal, supremely elegant, full of incredibly beautiful garments. Silhouettes looked very much to the past, sometimes using the elegance that comes with conservatism and confidence to ground the looks.

AUTUMN/WINTER 2018 STREET STYLE Off the catwalks, the fashion influencers and opinion makers brought the most intricate and painstakingly beautiful looks to the streets modelling of their own. Giving us a season of epic street style moments, the looks standout outside the shows. The fashion world attendees fought the biting cold weather and rain with warm fur and fleece layers, with people displaying unconventional styling, series of monochromatic looks, complete with berets and coats that are eye-catching. The fashion week’s audience is one of the main focus and draws the attention of the media that promotes the sources of inspiration and trends of those who dare the most and those who stand out with their irreverence choices, making the difference.

Image Credit: Marcus Tondo / Indigital.tv

The London streets were marked by oversize coats, sweaters, bulky scarves, coats, decked out in everything from timeless tailoring to totally of the moment sneakers. The main idea is to combine the classic and casual with sportswear, mixing conservative and daily clothes. The fashion flock has migrated to Milan for the second season of menswear shows. The week was mainly marked by the presentation of fashion houses such as Armani, Prada, Ermenegildo Zegna or Fendi. Most of the opinion makers were dressed in Nike sneakers and surprising accessories like berets and leather totes. In Paris, the best street-style looks included plenty of women in straight-up couture, low heels, jeans and relaxed suits, floor-length coats and berets. The elegance present on the streets was a great highlight, not only during the haute couture shows but also in the menswear shows. Men showed up in puffers, utility jumpsuits and their accessory of choice: a super-bright scarf. Dressing for snowy, slushy weather, with tons of statement outerwear, combat boots, vibrant scarves and other great accessories, the street style in New York stood out, especially because the main idea was not to follow a common line of pieces but to put together different styles, with the irreverent hairstyles also dazzling the streets of New York.
