ALEXANDRA FEDOROVA FEDOROVA ARCHITECTS
Born in Moscow, Alexandra Fedorova has an extensive background in architecture, being quite the accomplished artist in the field. aving worked in institutions, such as UB Design Studio, SUE Moscow Research and Mosproekt 4, the gifted architect and designer has managed her own architectural bureau since 2004, getting specialised in designing residential and public buildings as well as interiors. With many years of experience in this industry, Fedorova revealed that her passion and creativity are what drive her to create astonishing projects, she discloses, “The most pleasant thing is to have satisfaction from the final result, when you look at the beautiful photos and remember how long and accurate it was to create all the details.” Best describing her philosophy as timeless, her bureau prides itself on conceiving trendy and valuable settings and designs that will still matter as time goes by. Independently of the type of service,
they always approach a work from an architectural standpoint, as she explained, “We create living environments for people in the form of volumetric and spatial compositions, which may be supplemented by accessories, if and when necessary, but the essence of the space remains the same.” Ten years ago, the interior designer and architect started a project that consisted of 15 topical houses in Pestovo, one of the biggest suburban villages of Russia. In an attention-grabbing tale, one of the houses was recently bought and the owner had no prior knowledge that Alexandra had built it, as he requested her expertise to work in the interiors. This served as a major inspiration for the designer to return to an old project as she created “some façade finishing and interior” along with a smaller guest house placed nearby.

In order to have the best outcome, Fedorova believes that one must pay close attention to every particularity of a project, emphasising the importance of discovering the right architects or designers. It is not an individual art form, it is rather complex and lengthy, thus the designer gives a piece of advice in not trying to do everything by oneself.

JEAN-MARIE MASSAUD MASSAUD DESIGN
The world of design works in mysterious ways concerning the experiences and meanings it provides. It is a detailed art form that requires an abundant amount of willpower and passion from its resourceful professionals. French designer and architect, Jean-Marie Massaud who best describes himself as a perfectionist and generous person, embodies this reality perfectly. Educated in aeronautical engineering, it was later on that the designer discovered the wonders of design, having worked in many sectors, from industrial design to furnishings. In 2000, Massaud founded his own studio and has since then collaborated with numerous prominent brands, such as Poliform, B&B Italia, Poltrona Frau and Dior. Following a philosophy of improving something for the better and giving great importance to context, Massaud has a quest of focusing on the essentials in regards to the means and experiences that his creations convey to the public. For the designer, a project becomes more than what meets the eye, for instance, when designing a football stadium, a submarine or a car, one must always have the perception of the surroundings. On the other hand, when undertaking a residential project, Massaud contests the idea of decoration or statement and purely concentrates on matters like offering a sense of intimacy, freedom and comfort, hence creating the right ambience and an incredible design. Formerly, Massaud would frequently do projects all over the world, from Europe to Japan, to California and Mexico in the pursuit of betterments and understandings. Nowadays he doesn’t travel as much in far countries as a personal choice, though. Massaud’s studio is based in Paris and the designer currently lives in the countryside commune of Saint-Paul-de-Vince, so taking into consideration all the technological progress, it becomes more accessible to make contact with his team or go to nearby places. Another aspect that the French inventor never neglects is directing towards qualitative values instead of quantitative. It serves as a state of mind for Massaud, as he views that in any kind of society, it is more imperative to grow than to produce an absurd amount of things, after all, the essence of living registers in the former rather than the latter.

RADU DRAGAN
DRAGAN ARCHITECTURE Graduated from the Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture in Bucharest, Radu Dragan has become a prominent architect and urban planner, establishing his own company in Paris, Dragan Architecture, which was founded in 2007. He is a proud member of the French Order of Architects. In addition, the architect has also taught for over ten years in an Architecture School. The opportunity to enter in the design industry arose in 2001 after a client requested a decoration proposal for his Conference Centre in Saudi Arabia. Despite the fact that his office, which he managed with some friends, was only executing architecture projects, after a convincing and thought out presentation, they were the chosen ones to complete the proposal from a long list of competitors. Concerning his signature style, Radu Dragan discloses, “As an architect, I was used to thinking about space, not only about the walls and floor decoration, but to think the space in its whole, to think to proportions between void and empty, and so on.” The architect’s most beloved style to use in spaces is minimalist and refined; however, it is a variety that does not attract all sorts of crowds, so the company doesn’t get asked very often. He furthers explains that the most coveted desires involve classical and expensive decorations, and he finds it difficult to convince certain clients otherwise. Moreover, Dragan considers that there aren’t that many dissimilarities between architecture and interior design, only as of lately, has this comparison gained notice mainly due to extreme specialisation, as he continued “Did the Pope Sixtus IV ask Michelangelo to decorate the Sistine Chapel as an architect, as an interior designer? In his time, this question would have been perfectly incongruous!”

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW //
Description of the project Apartment in Moscow, 80 m² When a small apartment falls into the hands of a responsible designer, the first thing he should do is be concerned about the comfort of the client and be focused on functionality. But if the owners of the apartments are artistic and easy-going people, always prepared for any experiments, the designer will not miss a chance to add some new ideas. Initially, the apartment was a typical example of “stalinka” (architecture style of the Soviet Union under the leadership of Joseph Stalin, between 1933 and 1955, associated with the socialist realism school of art and architecture): a narrow hallway, a small kitchen, bathroom and WC separated. During the process of redevelopment, the designer used every square meter and the result was a bedroom with a wardrobe. In the living room, she found the place for a large dining table, and the corridor lost his area in order to expand to a spacious bathroom. The owners of the apartment, who often work at home, also received a personal cabinet.

Geometric prints on carpets and textiles in the living room and bedroom are responsible for a new dynamic in the interior. The cabinet is decorated with discreet vintage stripes and cells. The atmosphere of the apartment is a mix of typical forms of American furniture and vintage style. For the lighting solutions, the Portuguese brand DelightFULL was the chosen one with the stunning suspension lamp Ella, which is a true design masterpiece. With its sober lines, it has surpassed the test of time. It is a style icon of the fifties and sixties perfectly suitable for a living room in a small apartment. A FASCINATING AND MEMORABLE CREATION BY PEPE LEAL
Held in Casa Décor Madrid, it all started with a challenge that was brought up by AICEP Portugal Global - Trade & Investment Agency from the Portuguese Government - to the Spanish interior designer Pepe Leal. After taking it, Pepe´s main goal was to break up with the conceived idea that Portugal is old fashioned and rustic, highlighting the fact that it is a country where tradition and topicality go along with peace and quality. From the ceilings, passing through the walls and floor, until the décor itself, each and every detail came from Portugal in the creation of a Lusitano Corner. Pepe Leal is the protagonist in the conception of this project. Passionate for Portugal, he is one of the most renowned Interior Designers in Spain. He considers Portugal to be “sophisticated and elegant” and believes that extraordinary things are made there, things that people from Spain are not aware of. He carefully selected Portuguese historic and significant materials, like cork, blue tiles and pink marble, so that he would be able to reflect perfectly the Portuguese culture and the kind of furniture that has been made in Portugal. The rich handcrafted Portuguese tradition walks hand in hand with the modern design of its industry in this Pepe Leal´s creation. The display puts together various atmospheres towards a greater chance to show a wider variety of products. A perfect and glamorous fusion between traditional and contemporary reflects exactly what Portugal represents in this industry nowadays. All luxury furniture pieces were flawlessly selected, among them you can find: Heritage Sideboard by Boca do Lobo, Brubeck Suspension Light by Delightful, and other brands. Everything happened in Madrid, the capital city of Spain and the perfect place to toss new trends as it is a golden mine of Interior Designers. With a cosmopolitan and sophisticated lifestyle, Madrid is also a splendid brand display for tourists from all over the world. This journey has just begun in Madrid but it is not over yet. The possibility of taking this idea to other countries is open so lets look forward to it.

ARTSY CHIC APARTMENT BY PFB DESIGN
Elegant, lavish and stylish is how one can describe the renovation of a Haussmann style apartment in Paris, signed by Patricia Mauguy Flores from PFBDesign. The renovation of this private residence had one main goal, and it was successfully achieved: to enhance the majesty the high ceilings and the ornate moldings give to the apartment, with a creative symbiosis between luxury furniture and an eclectic color scheme.

PROJECT // EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Patricia Mauguy Flores was requested to work in the overall design of the apartment, which meant that the designer had one big challenge: to manage the space of a large living room and the contiguous dining room, entrance hall and kitchen. And, what happened in fact, was that the passion Patricia has for interior design, noble materials, and the association of colors reflects on this spacious apartment in a way that her clients, a young family, instantly surrendered to it too.

In the living room - a very light and airy spacious chamber – the designer made the most of the herringbone parquet floors, marble fireplace, double doors and floor-length windows. She chose neutral colors for the sofas, rugs and baccarat style lighting fixtures, which were key to making the apartment feel timeless and even more spacious, while decorative items like throw pillows and other furniture pieces such as ottomans and armchairs bring a pop of bold purple hues and ochre. One of these key items was the DUKONO armchair from Brabbu, placed in a join area, set for reading. The color palette used in the dining room was based on a neutral background. It’s a chamber with plenty of natural light, filtered by white and lilac curtains, which give greater height to the room. This allowed the designer to go for a bold turquoise set of chairs and an audacious purple rug. The two grand chairs at both tops of the dining table, NAMIB also from Brabbu, were custom made to perfectly match the room design. Indulgence and amenity define the master bedroom, which is vestured with beautiful velvets. Dramatic black curtains, toning with the throw pillows on the bed and armchairs, make the room cozier and prevent all the light from coming in. A large patterned headboard fills one of the walls, while an imposing golden mirror lays on the other, lodged on the floor.

LUXURY RESIDENCE IN ITALIAN COUNTRYSIDE
PROJECT //
“Our interiors are comfortable spaces with natural materials and well-designed details. Aesthetics and functionality are inseparable.”
Modern and classic at the same time, it’s impossible not to celebrate this unique design by Diff. Studio. This residence is located in the Italian countryside and was recently redesigned by Ukrainian Designers Vitaliy Yorov and Iryna Dzhemesiuk. When we look to this residence, words like luxurious, glamorous and sophisticated can all be used to describe these amazing aesthetics. The designers are known for their creative approach and the fact that they enjoy combining different styles, forms and materials as well as for using techniques from different eras when decorating contemporary spaces. They managed to turn the Hanna Floor Lamp by DelightFULL into a sculptural decoration for the living room. We can feel the airiness of the space through bright and vivid colours. The modern furniture and the unique lamps used with classic techniques tell a story and mark the passage of time combined with innovative techniques that turn this apartment into an incomparable interior design project. “Our work is our hobby, our lifestyle. As interior designers, we are able to continuously evolve, to inspire, to generate ideas, to learn new things, to travel. We are always surrounded by an incredible number of beautiful things which is the aesthetic component in our professional growth. Design is always a creative search of harmony.” Designers acknowledge.
With furniture brands like Minotti, Poltrona Frau, Kristalia, Amuneal shelving system, it is easy to imagine the precision and challenge that designers took under their” wings”. “Our interiors are comfortable spaces with natural materials and well-designed details. Aesthetics and functionality are inseparable. “ As we go along to the kitchen area, we feel that it is a little more on the modern side, being defined by minimalist designs, clean and simple lines and a chromatic palette of neutrals. But in addition to all these elements, the kitchen also has patterned tiles on the floor and chic wall decor complemented by a batch of minimalist pendant lamps. The kitchen area features Valcucine furniture. As we discover more about the story of this residence, the dynamic duo of Designer admits: “Interaction with the client is very important. We usually work in contemporary styles such as minimalism, loft, eclecticism. Based on this, the client comes to us for these stylistic directions. Our goal is to make not just a beautiful picture but also a comfortable space for each specific customer considering his lifestyle, habits etc. Before we begin to develop the project, we discuss and carefully explore our client’s wishes, his action scenario in the space. During each stage, we keep a close relationship with him. We have one common goal, and we both are interested in getting a good result.” The residence as a whole is a breathtaking symphony of beautiful artwork, eye-catching accent furniture, glamorous decorations and an irresistibly beautiful combination of classical and contemporary design elements. Its domed ceilings and arched windows share the space with unexpected forms, artistic design elements. Other highlights are the use of brands such as Maison Valentina and Boca do Lobo as a signature and extension of extreme luxury.
Each zone has its own distinctive character. The living space is a very inviting and comfortable space decorated with shades of green and neutrals, while the dining room is a bit more theatrical, featuring a burgundy accent wall and black and white furnishings. The constant in all the spaces is the display of golden accent pieces and the use of exquisite lighting fixtures. For the dining area, the designers chose two Brubeck ceiling lamps by DelightFULL with a design reminiscent of the pipe organ and its dramatic music.

A LIGHT & AIRY
NEW YORK APARTMENT
This stylish Manhattan New York apartment added a touch of seduction with a sultry KOKET revamp, a luxury design brand known by its statement pieces. The crisp and bright space provided the perfect backdrop for a luxurious design composed of highly desirable pieces. Blending both new and classic designs, the apartment’s color palette is neutral focused except for two Geisha barstools adorned in an exotic ombre-effect fabric. In the dining room and living room, lavish wallcoverings act as accents to add some texture and depth to the room’s cream walls. Thru the living room, is possible to see the Geisha sofa curves gracing the house with the extravagance and poise of a Kyoto Geisha. Opposite of the sofa sit a pair of black Mia chairs featuring a base of stacked, tri-colored metal for polished glamour.

MELBOURNE HOUSE GREG NATALE DESIGN

Grand, intimate and cool. These are the three words that describe this outstanding project of Melbourne House by Greg Natale. Greg Natale is an Australian interior designer and the founder of Greg Natale Design. His projects are renowned for the use of bold colours and patterns and for the creation of warm, layered and comfortable spaces. Greg offers a generous and unique view with his creative projects that reflect his passions, experiences, knowledge and the philosophy behind his richly tailored, sophisticated style. Located in Melbourne’s most exclusive tree-lined, inner-city enclaves, Melbourne House is the second property completed for the same client. MARCEL WANDERS
AWARDED ANDAZ AMSTERDAM PRINSENGRACHT HOTEL
PROJECTS //
Awarded on June 11, 2014 by Jetsetter.com, the world’s leading luxury travel site, as ‘Best of the Best’ Hotel Awards, Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht not only meets with Jetsetter’s rigorous quality standards, but also, ‘captures the style, sense of place and outstanding experience that makes it the best in a given destination’, announces the Managing Editor Leigh Crandall. But this is not the only industry-recognized award that has been given to Leigh Crandall since its opening in November 2012. Among these, we have the Travellers’ Choice 2014 - Winner Luxury | Romance | Top Hotels (TripAdvisor); Hotel of the Year 2014 (GaultMillau); Best Guest Review Score 2013 - Winner Five Star Hotels Netherlands (Booking.com); Hot List: The World’s Best New Hotels 2013 (Condé Nast Traveler); It List: The Best New Hotels 2013 (Travel + Leisure). In addition to this list, the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht also proudly holds a Green Globe certification. One of the responsible for this huge success is Marcel Wanders, a Dutch designer and art director in the Powerhouse studio in Amsterdam, who designs architectural, interior and industrial projects. He became internationally known by his iconic Knotted Chair.
COVETED MAGAZINE PAGE 87.
Marcel’s comprehensive design for the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht, a building that used to be the public library of Amsterdam, cherishes Dutch heritage in a multitude of ways. Sensibilities from the Golden Age and the Discovery Age, as well as Delftware, historical maps, navigation instruments and Amsterdam’s creative and knowledge economy. All inform its design. The Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht also owns a curated video art collection, which is constantly updated. In the atrium, the carpeted floor represents a map of the world and the lighting installation an ancient navigation system for travellers, with its constellation of bright stars. The wallpaper depicts Amsterdam’s architectonic heritage and an array of symbols are organised to illustrate the ascending from hell to heaven. The lavishly proportioned signature Bell Lamps, together with their internal royal chandeliers, welcome international guests to this smart yet relaxed hotel. Every guest room door number is hand painted in traditional Dutch house style, giving the feeling of returning to your home apartment at the end of the day. The furniture and textiles, carpets and wallpapers are custom designed, and every piece tells a story. In Marcel’s own words, ‘As a designer, I always try to design things with personality and character. I even hand painted each wash basin in my one minute style myself! They are all unique. The Andaz is my gift to Amsterdam!’

ECLETIC APARTMENT VITERBO INTERIOR DESIGN
“The apartment is an eclectic mix of myriad styles, colours and textures and is a treasure trove filled with the avid collector´s art, furniture, fabrics and coral.”
PROJECTS // With offices in Portugal and Singapore, Viterbo Interior Design is a leading interior design family company whose success is based on the genuine effort to deliver a unique creation in every single project they work on. For the past 40 years, the firm has been nurturing a creative talent that combines their clients’ needs and boundaries with the designers’ own goals and design skills to exceed everyone’s expectations. This success has already crossed the national frontiers and Gracinha Viterbo features a bit all over the world. Over the years, the group has worked hard to enhance their customer’s experience through a highly customised approach and a strong commitment to their lifestyle vision, which is perfectly reflected in the present project. With the belief that every home tells a story and every space is a moment, this house is all about creating lifestyles and writing stories through spaces.
COVETED MAGAZINE PAGE 91.
The contrasting colours and textures of overlapping carpets, rough raffia against the luxuriant emerald green of a Diane Von Furstenberg Climbing Leopard Rug juxtaposed with a neutral cream, adds depth to a flat surface. The layering of cushions is custom made using antique fabrics, ikats and an assortment of other materials such metal studs. In this home, Gracinha Viterbo turned what was originally intended to be one dining space into a room within a room, by carving out a second living area. The child´s rooms are fun, comfortable, but functional and systematic at the same time. In the master bedroom, the eclecticism takes on an even bolder execution with a distinctively tropical feel and a touch of vintage. Nothing in this eclectic home matches in the conventional sense of the word but the deliberate dissonance results in a captivating and harmonious effect. This project reflects the unique lifestyle and personality of the client. However, it was left space for the story to be continued, so that the clients are able to keep “writing the never-ending story.

In Flora Perma (used for Flora Lamp), the decoration is not interpreted but comes from nature itself. Here, the flowers are “frozen in time” and machined in order to reveal the complexity and intricacy found in the cross section of flowers, the curve of petals, and the structure of leaves. Contrasted with white resin they appear as veins or fossils creating an almost stone-like quality.

CONFUSION LOUNGE BAR
For an unforgettable and unique luxury lounge experience, we strongly suggest the CONFUSION LOUNGE BAR so you can appreciate a delicious champagne cocktail, exclusively prepared by the gorgeous owner Tatyana. Situated on the river bank, ConFusion Lounge is what you would call a confusion at first sight (hence the name!), but this restaurant, with two floors, is a refined space with an eclectic décor and ultra-refined cuisine and staff. It manages to surprise and surpasses any expectations you might have in terms of culinary delight through its ground-breaking dishes and finest selections of champagnes. The kitchen offers a wonderful opportunity for you to participate in the culinary show, orchestrated by Italo Bassi. Currently holding three Michelin Star, he is best known for his work at Enoteca Pinchiorri in Firenze, where he has worked for 28 years. He left the restaurant to lead this new project that also involves Japanese Chef Masaki Inoguchi, in which the main restaurant’s values are the ingredients of both the Italian and Japanese cultures. If you prefer a more relaxed and intimate environment, the upper floor is cosy while maintaining the restaurant’s eccentric philosophy. As the owners say, ConFusion Lounge is a meeting point between tradition and modernity in which refinement and luxury of the space become one, combined with the delicacy of the dishes. If you’re looking for an exclusive experience for all senses, make sure you book a table at ConFusion Lounge.

FIRENZE WHERE TO EAT IL CIBREO
We suggest you visit IL CIBREO for a heart-warming and intimate dinner yet casual and comfortable. Going along with the Chef’s fantasy, the menu of Cibreo Restaurant essentially flows with the seasons. While transition occurs smoothly throughout Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall, the menu changes slightly every month, week or day. Il Cibreo’ suppliers are fishermen from the Tuscan sea, farmers from nearby villages and hundreds of other suppliers with whom they are constantly in touch with. Since September 8th of 1979, Il Cibreo supports shepherds’ work and their cheeses, butchers and their meats, the best pasta makers from Puglia region, lemon producers from Sicilia, “Clementini” tangerine growers from Calabria, and professional truffle diggers from San Miniato and Piedmont. Francesca from Pantelleria provides the oregano and it is one of their “most ancient” suppliers together with many wine producers that follow and constantly inspire their work. They leave out of their kitchen vacuum packed or deep frozen foods, a healthy and amazing philosophy. Il Santo Bevitore
The restaurant Il Santo Bevitore is, undeniably, one of Florence’s best restaurants in regards to the quality of the food, the vast selection of wines and the inviting atmosphere. It has a very cosmopolitan design and it is located in the heart of the Santo Spirito area. The owners Marco and Martina Baldesi and Stefano Sebastiani were childhood friends who grew up together in the Oltrarno and they have nurtured a passion for scrumptious food through their teenage years. The restaurant serves Mediterranean dishes and its suppliers are local farmers and seasonal producers. The menu changes every three months. Chef Luca Marin keeps an eye on quality while supporting the neighbourhood economy. The greengrocers from Santo Spirito and from San Frediano supply the restaurant with fresh fruit and vegetables, and every ingredient used in the kitchen. Their products are handpicked by artisan food producers of high-quality, from across Italy. Some examples of this are their delicious pecorino cheeses from Tuscany and Sardinia and their mouth-watering salamis from the Bottega of an artisanal producer in Gubbio, Umbria. Their cellar boasts over 200 different wines, mostly from Tuscany and the rest of Italy, but also from France. When the owners opened the restaurant, 14 years ago, they asked a group of their friends to help them clean the storefront, paint the walls and turn the grimy interior into a real restaurant. It has maintained the same simple yet elegant decor since its beginnings, composed by dark wood tables and paper placemats. A must-go for all foodies!

GENOVA WHERE TO EAT DEL CAMBIO
It is no surprise that we enjoyed our meal so much at DEL CAMBIO Restaurant, one of the most elegant restaurants in Italy. Since it opened in 1757, the restaurant Del Cambio has been a significant address for beauty and food lovers. Today, the mesmerizing decoration and furnishing from the 19th century, brought back its original charm and splendour. Meanwhile, some works created by Martino Gamper, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Izhar Patkin, Pablo Bronstein and Arturo Herrera are engaged in an insightful conversation with the past. Matteo Baronetta is the young and talented chef that leads the kitchen who bravely and respectfully interprets the typical recipes of piedmont cuisine. The regional excellence meets unusual and unexpected ingredients looking for an equilibrium. The wines chart is wide and of the highest level and is led by the piedmontese labels with some connoisseur’s awless pearls.
TORINO MUST SEE We are on the road again, curious to discover more about Italy, and it has been a flavourful experience. As we are reaching the end of our journey, we need to say how grateful we are for all the hospitality and kindness we encountered in each visit. Torino is our final destination, where business and art meet together. It is sitting in the northwest corner of Italy, nearby the river Po in the Italian region of Piemonte and surrounded by the Alps from west and north. During our visit to Torino (Turin) we’ve learn that it was the first capital of Italy, in 1865. The fourth largest city in Italy behind Rome, Milan and Naples, it is a Baroque city with streets highlighted with piazzas, porticoes, and cafés. The culinary world of this city is enriched by very rare white truffles, vermouth wine, and solid chocolate. The slow food movement which defends the use of local ingredients celebrating the art of enjoying a long unhurried meal was started in Bra, near Turin.

CovetED has been travelling all over the world for over two years now and experiencing some of the most incredible hotels in existence. Each of them took our heart in its own way with its particular history and charm. Now it’s time to proudly share with you Beau Rivage history
the city, counting already 150 years of existence. Five generations later, the Beau Rivage is still run by the Mayer family and that’s exactly a sense of familiar intimacy that we feel as soon as we cross the threshold and are welcomed by the impeccable staff. Nowadays, the hotel is managed by Alexandre Nickbarte, who kindly showed us around the hotel. Throughout the hotel, we can find unique artefacts from the past, such as very well preserved staff uniforms from the beginning of the 20th century and original fireplaces that recall us golden days. In the second floor, we were shown two beautiful rooms that have been kept almost the same along the years, with only a few changes, to offer modern amenities required for modern times. They are both overlooking the Mont Blanc and the snowy mountains, as well as the famous Jet d’Eau water fountain.

CovetED was presented with a superb dinner from Le Chat-Botté, the restaurant lead by Michelin-starred chef Dominique Gauthier, known for his exquisite cuisine, its closeness to nature, the sense of wonder and memories it evokes, with roots in childhood. Natural products of the finest quality, Mediterranean colours and scents, simple yet so delicious dishes and handmade desserts were the perfect ending to a long day for us. The interior design of the Gallery Park Hotel has a strong influence by seafarers–, since it was the residence of Latvia`s biggest shipping company and part of Navy`s Baltic command for many years. The bar inside is dedicated to this period and has a collection of historical photos and some sailor requisite. Managers of the hotel have made an incredible job by collecting dozens of original interior objects and expensive antiques. For instance, in a luxury hall you can find gold plating wallpapers, created with the same technology from the beginning of 20th century; in the next room, in the corner, you will recognize the antique piano or clavichord, that have been restored by a musician to its original playing quality; between the lobby and the lunchroom, you will see an absolutely unique doorway, that was bought in France and dates the same year as the whole building. The truth is that every single interior object in the Gallery Park Hotel has its own story, truly worth visiting. So let’s start our design tour inside this “piece of art” in the heart of Riga. Modern Interior With Estonian Art This summer Hilton has opened its first property in Estonia, with the unveiling of the Hilton Tallinn Park. Located around a mile from the capital city’s Old Town, the 202-room hotel is located next to Politsei Park. The architectural solution for the hotel Hilton Tallinn Park was created by Estonian architect Meelis Press and the interior design was prepared by Finnish design company dSign Vertti Kivi & Co. The drawing of the interiors was provided by Allianss Arhitektid OÜ, while the lighting was completed by specialists of Hektor Light, one of the best Estonian company in this area. In terms of furniture, the elements in all areas are either carefully selected from well-known design brands, or unique designs by Estonian designers and one-off solutions manufactured by Estonian companies according to the architects’ drawings. DelightFULL and Tom Dixon are two of the world TOP design brands featured here. The ambience of Hilton Tallinn Park has a restrained and crisp Nordic look using natural materials, the overall light and moderate colour scheme – black, hues of white, grey and beige. It is occasionally accentuated with a touch of purple and gold and particular spaces are emphasised with extravagant elements. In the spectacular entrance, there are hundreds of MIRROR BALL pendants welcoming guests into the new hotel. The task of finding lighting fittings for the Hilton Hotel was a major challenge for everyone involved, since this type of luxury hotel had never been built in Estonia before. The planning for the new hotel began from the purpose of replacing the old Soviet-era hotel. Demolition works went quickly, while at the same time new ideas and solutions were being born. It was understood that the interior of the hotel had to be luxurious, while possessing a positive aura as well. It is highly gratifying that the contracting entity is able to appreciate the value of handcrafted, timeless lighting fittings.

Ürjo Jõks, the chief of Hektor Light recalls how everything first began. Initially, a kinetic ceiling had been planned for the lobby, in which a large number of grouped together pendant light fittings were supposed to be placed in motion with the aid of several motors. Offers were submitted by many different manufacturers and various technical solutions were thought out, although due to safety concerns this unique ceiling was never realised. It was then that Tom Dixon’s custom solution was born – an extremely effective composition comprised of 150 mirror ball pendants. The hotel has a large number of customised solutions when it comes to lighting fittings, created especially for this particular hotel. The hotel’s restaurant is located at a height of about 13 metres above street level, offering a beautiful view of the park. It is here that one can find Atomic and Charles, the magnificent retro style lighting fittings by DelightFULL. Without a doubt, the lobby is actually the hotel’s calling card. The space has a unique aura, being a pleasant and favourable place for getting together. It offers magnificence and dignity, luxury and exclusivity, yet cosy and open. The Ike lighting fittings by DelightFULL generate excitement, are prominent, and at the same time also blend in well with the interior design. “To eat more healthily and naturally is today both an expectation and a necessity that must be translated into the field of haute cuisine. Exceptional produce expressing their simplicity, a technique which has the elegance to take a step back to their benefit. This is the cuisine I sincerely love. Cuisine of Naturalness, released, freed. This very personal interpretation is indeed, here, in my restaurant at the Plaza Athénée.”
Following a philosophy of naturalness, legendary Monegasque chef, Alain Ducasse centres his cuisine menu around a trilogy of healthier and enriching nourishments to the body referring to fish, vegetables and cereal. Located at Plaza Athénée in Avenue Montaigne, the restaurant went through an extensive period of renovation which was concluded in 2014. Determined on producing high-quality dishes that entail environmental preservation, the chef sees the act of cooking as an adaptable process, therefore, he tends to hold a courteous perspective towards these natural resources with the assistance of an experienced team of multifaceted chefs headed by Romain Meder. In an organic effort to synchronise the interiors with that singular touch of naturalness, just like in Alain Duchasse’s cuisine, designers Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku made sure to highlight the veracity of the materials as well as organising the space in a way that guests would feel at their best, concerning privacy and overall experience. Eager to create a soft and marvellous decor, Ducasse’s restaurant presents solid oak tables with leathering seats, silky cushions and splendorous crystal chandeliers that exude glamour and serenity. Although, the dining room was refurbished, a series of elements were kept identical in order to uphold the history and essence of the prestigious venue. Additionally, the restaurant displays an exceptionally structured collection of tableware which were exhaustively worked by skilful and zealous artisans and designers, such as Tina Frey, Pierre Tachon and Gérard Crociani. Each piece has its own narrative leading to Ducasse’s ideologies for the restaurant. Characterised by a modest and rudimentary form, these sporadic and precious pieces handpicked by the French chef contrast in perfect harmony the existing difference between container and content. Guests can opt for a diversity of menus all representing the much yearned state of naturalness, from the Shojin Menu of Chinese origins to the Jardin-Marin Menu consisting of three half-courses, cheese and dessert. The most distinguished courses vary from the Gamberoni from San Remo which comes with avocado grilled on coffee beans as well as sea urchins, vegetables from château de Versailles with cedar seeds and mushrooms, and the beloved Brittany Langoustines with golden caviar which are served cold. The restaurant also serves an outstanding wine selection supervised by wine sommelier, Gérard Margeon. To sum up and in the wise words of Alain Ducasse, “To eat more healthily and naturally is today both an expectation and a necessity that must be translated into the field of haute cuisine.

It’s Spring Time! And Luis Onofre, one of the most renowned Portuguese fashion designers, proudly introduces his ultimate show collection named Hellenic Gardens SS17. Launched in 1999, the brand Luis Onofre does not need an extensive presentation. Luis Onofre is all about luxury shoes and accessories of extremely high quality, made of high-end materials combined with innovation and technology with the level of detail of a handmade production that has already conquered the whole world. It’s a brand that perfectly reinstates the fact that the sexiest shoe industry in the entire world is the Portuguese. Portuguese shoes or Luis Onofre shoes are a full set of feelings that make them an unparalleled experience of beauty and comfort. Hellenic Gardens SS17 features an exceptional collection full of colour, emotion and craft for Her and, for the first time ever, for Him. The various lines, curves, trajectories and dynamics presented in the collection honour “the purest expression of a drawing,” as stated. The new pieces “enter into dialogue with such unique scenery, in which design is the primordial force of expression”. This dialogue was shot in Covet House, a living celebration of design that offers an exceptional and absolutely memorable experience, surrounded by classic luxury and contemporary comfort. Conceived to be a mecca for designers, Covet House was absolutely the perfect stage for the campaign, since it gathers pieces of furniture by brands that, just like Luis Onofre, have broken the boundaries of style and conceived a new concept of design, combining comfort with innovation and taking Portugal abroad.

Rita
HAYWORTH
Rita Hayworth achieved fame during the 1940s as one of the era’s top stars, featuring in a total of 61 films. Called by many as “love goddess” after she had become the most glamorous screen idol of that decade, Hayworth was also the top pin-up girl for GIs during World War II. She was a talented actress and dancer, but also a woman who exuded style and beauty; a lady whose films and photos amaze us until today. Best known for her performance in the 1946 film, Gilda, in which she played the femme fatale, Rita Hayworth began her career being often cast as the exotic foreigner. Born Margarita Carmen Cansino, daughter of a Spanish father and an Irish-English descent mother, her features were unusual and mysterious, giving her a striking beauty for that time. However, Rita’s opportunities were limited to the small number of “exotic” roles due to her Mediterranean appearance. To fight against those limits, and in order to better appeal to American audiences, Rita took on her mother’s maiden name and changed her hairline using electrolysis and hair dye. And what a change - that long red hair soon became a signature, in a style that influenced thousands of women after her. And so it was born the Rita Hayworth we know today. Iconic as a redhead, she reportedly got her big motion picture break because she was willing to change her hair colour, while other actresses were not. She changed her hair colour eight times in eight movies! Her exquisiteness, her talent and her boldness made her a star. By that time, Rita was not only a leading woman but was also a leading fashion trendsetter. Jean-Louis, chief designer to the stars of the “Golden Age,” took her as his muse. She wore elbow length gloves, had pin waved locks, wore body hugging gowns that showed off her hour-glass figure and was often seen in lace and floral prints. In August 1941, the beautiful actress was featured in an iconic Life photo in which she posed in a negligee with a black lace bodice. This photo, shot by Bob Landry, made Hayworth one of the top two pin-up girls of the World War II era. For two years, Hayworth’s photograph was the most requested pin-up photograph in circulation - all the GIs had it on their lockers. In every occasion of Rita Hayworth’s life, she strived to be at her glamorous, provocative but classy best. In later life, she admitted being proud of being considered sexy without having done nude scenes ever. During her successful film career, Rita was a beauty icon that ladies aspired to look like. Over the years, many events defined the power of the posture and style of the actress. Fred Astaire, for instance, with whom she costarred, called her his favourite dance partner, because of her being so confident, provocative and sensual. At 5 foot 6 and with hazel-brown eyes, Hayworth soon became a style and beauty icon and was the face of MaxFactor in the 1940s. And by the end of that decade, she was also voted to have the world’s best lips. As a consequence of her beauty and stylishness, Hayworth was even considered one of the top 25 female motion picture stars of all time in the American Film Institute’s survey AFI’s 100 Years... 100 Stars. Proving that her influence lived long for herself, Hayworth-worn dresses can claim thousands when sold at auction. That’s what happened with the satin nightgown she wore for her famous World War II pin-up pictures, sold by Sotheby’s in 2002 for $26,888.
