FUTURISTIC When you think about the future, how do you envision it?
The consumer of today is living in a past-present future where surreal technology, like Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence, exist within a world where the past is still important and prevalent. Futuristic is further supported by the rise of 3D-printed clothing, footwear, and accessories that are being influenced by tech-driven design and a new generation of technical materials that are ultra light, highly breathable, protective, and thermo regulated. As gender roles become more flexible, terms like “gender-neutral” or genderless masculinity get more predominant with a generation of forward-looking persons emerging. These are audacious people who call themselves “without gender”, challenging preconceived ideas of gender, race, ethnicity and sexuality. Metallic textures undoubtedly make a statement but futuristic fashion is also defined by other aspects like embossed textures, bespoke fabrics and liquid or metallic finishes. Futuristic is also slowly influencing our lifestyle as much as services are upscaling, introducing premium and luxury options. Jobs are being displaced by technology, most of the times with the use of robots or drones. As robotics expand into a wider range of consumer-facing industries, the objective will be to develop technologies with humanizing details to replicate the textures, expressions and warmth of a human. The now world-famous robot Sophia is a perfect example of this. Anti-aging mechanisms and the perfection of the human body is also a near goal with Google’s associated company, Verily, being on a quest to find the cure to live forever. The world is changing at an extraordinary rate and the question is to know how humans are going to evolve with it.

COLOR MAP Futuristic brings in concepts like textured colors and dark, eccentric tones. Vivid reds, vibrant blues and iridescent colors that evoke images of technology are counteracted by neutrals like grey or old pink that serve as reminders of the past. This tones blend seamlessly the past and the future to create a contemporary and intemporal palette that is inspired by the future of fashion.

New technologies and innovations in fabrics will shift from runway to ready-to-wear. The combination of synthetic and natural fabrics or ecofriendly fibres with performance materials will improve and make way for the creation of Intelligent Fabrics. This fabrics will give enhanced levels of performance and functionality like UV protection, water repellency and quick drying. In fashion the use of velvet, latex and plastic inspired materials, like neoprene, will give an innovative feel to any look.
