NEWS & TRENDS NEERA IS A MINIMALIST TASK CHAIR SUITABLE FOR HOME ENVIRONMENTS Working from home continues to be the norm for the foreseeable future, and while many of us have made peace with our make-shift home offices, there can always be room for improvement when it comes to function and aesthetics for our most hard-working (no pun intended) home furniture. As for the office chair, we’re either relegated to the couch, the bar stool, the dining chair, or an actual task chair that probably looks jarring in looks when placed in the backdrop of a home (and especially a home without an office). Enter Neera, a chair designed by Silvia Barile that fulfils the ergonomic duties of a task chair but looks suitable for the home environment.
JAIME HAYON DESIGNS A STOOL THAT WILL MAKE YOU SMILE It’s impossible not to feel some amount of joy when looking at the Smile Stool, right? Launched for Madrid Design Week 2021, the playful piece is all thanks to designer Jaime Hayon and his coll.
TAKE A JOURNEY TO THE MOON + BACK WITH MOONSTONE LIGHTING Now you can visit the moon in your own space, on your own time. We have Giopato&Coombes’ new Moonstone lighting collection to thank, featuring four faceted pendants inspired by lunar rock sculptures. Their design research led the two designers to the material used, where they worked to reveal each outlined shape directly within it. That material is a combination of handmade fibreglass that’s been infused with marble powder and ‘battuto’ Murano glass or linen glazed diffusers, depending on size.
AN 8.5 MILLION MODERN CLASSIC VILLA BY COVET HOUSE This secluded villa is the first of a series of luxury houses created by Covet House with the purpose of inspiring professionals and design lovers to new heights in this new era. The 8.5 million, 500 m2 mansion in Russia presents elegant bespoke interiors with a modern classic touch, and a perfect balance between statement handcrafted pieces and more neutral, functional elements. “This project is a staple on luxury design. We mixed high-end furniture pieces with a modern aesthetic and shaped them into reality”, said the luxury brand, Covet House.
SNØHETTA DESIGNS TOKYO RESTAURANT WITH ALLBLACK INTERIORS Architecture firm Snøhetta has worked with Bronx-based cooking collective Ghetto Gastro to create a jet-black eatery in Tokyo that will house immersive dining experiences. Set above a convenience store in the city’s Harajuku neighbourhood, Burnside is a casual restaurant by day and a bar and lounge by night. Space was designed with flexibility in mind, as it will host a rotating roster of chefs and be used for a wide variety of pop-ups and events. It comprises a 30-person dining room with an open kitchen, all decorated using a dark material palette with ambercoloured accents. The eatery, which marks Snøhetta’s first project opening in Tokyo, was designed for art and design collective En One Tokyo, with help from local construction partner Kooo Architects and Ghetto Gastro – an ensemble of chefs that specialises in immersive dining experiences.
MUT DESIGN CLADS MODULAR VALENCIA PAVILION IN THOUSANDS OF WOODEN SCALES Valencia studio MUT Design has designed five modular pavilions clad in scales made from leftover wood for a travelling exhibition in Spain. CARL HANSEN & SON AND ILSE CRAWFORD LAUNCH LIMITED EDITION FIRST MASTERPIECES COLLECTION Ilse Crawford has developed a fresh colour palette for a limited-edition release of the first chairs that Wegner created for Carl Hansen & Son in 1950. The First Masterpieces collection - created to celebrate Hans J. Wegner’s enduring legacy and more than 70 years of collaboration - includes the most iconic designs in furniture history: CH22 Lounge Chair, CH23 Chair, CH24 Wishbone Chair, CH25 Lounge Chair and the CH26 Chair. The five designs have very different expressions yet are all bearing Wegner’s unique fingerprint and emphasis on impeccable craftsmanship. “These pieces were the forerunners for what would develop into an impressive collection of some of the most iconic pieces of furniture in the world, and to be able to refresh them for a new generation is a great pleasure,” commented Carl Hansen & Son CEO, Knud Erik Hansen. “Ilse has an ability to imbue any project with great insight and relevance, and this new colour scheme has its own cultural history, rooted in Nordic abstraction.”
CHARLOTTE PENDANT LAMP BY DANIEL BECKER STUDIO Designed by Daniel Becker Studio, Charlotte is a LED pendant, created with the latest generation of filament strips, featuring a noble yet minimalistic brass frame structure. When turned off, Charlotte is a refined sculptural object with subtle technical detailing referencing heavy metalwork. When turned on, its lights seem to float in space weightlessly. The proportions of the luminaire have been designed to fit large tables. The two upper LED sources emit the light directly upwards and the other two illuminate the table surface generously. Charlotte fills the space with a highly pleasant, non-blinding light. The frame structure safely provides the electricity for the LEDs, avoiding any visible cables.
WORLD’S FIRST CONCEPT HOUSE FOR ITALIAN INFLUENCERS Cloud-print floors and glow-in-the-dark walkways are some of the fun features art director John Pentassuglia has included in Defhouse, a home in Milan designed for young social media influencers. Designed to be the “ideal set for producing content”, Defhouse is currently shared by seven influencers – all between the ages of 16 and 19 – who are keen to grow their followings on social media apps like Instagram and Tik Tok. Defhouse was conceived by media company Web Stars Channel (WSC), which claims the property is the first of its kind to appear in Italy.

TREND PRODUCTS: DESIGN GALLERIST It’s been a long year, so we have good reason to rejoice when thinking of the interior design trends coming up in 2021. From the growing importance of sustainable materials to elegant elements and a celebration of individuality and uniqueness, our 2021 trend pieces edit will provide you with a curated look that will bring your home a luxury and curated touch.
1. HALO MIRROR BOCA DO LOBO Halo Mirror was inspired by a phenomenon produced by light interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere, the Halo. Halos can have many forms, ranging from coloured or white rings to arcs and spots in the sky. Composed of a set of three mirrors, it allows different displays and creative settings. The big mirrors with different shapes have an elegant gold frame accent, perfect for contemporary interiors and elegant rooms, from stylish bedrooms to upscale halls or living rooms.
2. BOMA SIDEBOARD CAFFE LATTE Boma Sideboard was inspired by the Boma Plateau, a region in the east of South Sudan, which is also one of the few places where the wild Coffea arabica grows. This breathtaking landscape serves as inspiration for the Boma Sideboard design, where the round inox aged detail protrudes from the organic pattern of the decape wood, resembling the fantastic mountain that emerges from the plains of the Boma Natural Park.
3. TRISTEN BED CIRCU Tristen Bed was inspired by the movie Atlantics, it was made to shape comfort and to keep your little one’s dreams safe and sound while he/she travels through their imagination at night.
4. BMIDDLE MODULE, CAMALEONDA SOFA MARIO BELLINI The sectional elements of the Camaleonda sofa can be used freely and apart from one another. The backs and armrests are provided with rings and carabiners, which allows the user to create a perfect ‘seating landscape’. The sofa is very comfortable and the fact this wonderful piece is modular provides endless flexible solutions for any project or living room.
5. MARGARET ARMCHAIR FENDI CASA Iconic armchair of the new collection, it shows a padded frame with metal details in gun-metal, Bronze Shadow or Palladium finishes. In the Bracelet version, rear leg and steel details.
6. CONSTELLATION LITE COFFEE TABLE FENDI CASA The new version of one of the collection’s best sellers pays tribute to FENDI iconography. Lightweight steel frame in gun-metal grey, Bronze Shadow or Palladium finishing, with top supported by a metal disc inserted with extreme precision into the glass.
7. RIDLEY CHAIR BENTLEY CASA The Ridley chair reveals all the elegant design codes of the Bentley Home. The “S” shape of the main structure turns during its path, starting from the bottom as a base, which evolves into a seat and back, giving this product a great and unique design. The lightness is emphasized by the bevelled cut of the frame, which evokes the thin and aerodynamic lines typical of Bentley.
8. DEVEN CHEST OF DRAWERS TRUSSARDI CASA Inspired by Trussardi’s iconic Lovy Bag, the Deven line is enriched with a chest of drawers and bedside tables. Carlo Colombo reinterprets the working technique applied to the bag in the Vertical quilting in leather, playfully alternating between full and empty spaces, open compartments, drawers and doors with varying storage functions.
9. NOIRE ARMCHAIR BUGATTI HOME The Bugatti identity embodies the design of the Noire armchair, a tribute to French automotive history. Noire is inspired by the spectacular elegance of the car, as seen in its profile and unlike any other, identifies the spirit of Jean Bugatti: the legendary Type 57 SC Atlantic Coupé.

10. OVAL ARMCHAIR TRUSSARDI CASA Designed by Carlo Colombo, the Oval family reflects the heart of the Trussardi Casa 2020 collection. The Tru Damas fabric accentuates the iconicity of the armchair, an emblem of informal, young and dynamic elegance inspired by Trussardi understatement. The central element of the project is the metal oval profile of the Trussardi logo: like an ancient medieval emblem, it recalls the iconic Italian spirit of the Milanese brand. Made of steel in Dark Matt Bronze finishing, it features dark chocolate Vermont leather details with Greyhound logo print.
11. CLIFTON SOFÁ ROBERTO CAVALLI HOME A one of a kind, sensual sofa - the perfect expression of the true essence of the brand. Upholstered in nubuck, in an orange shade that evokes the warm and wildlands of the African savannah, the sofa features along with the external structure a “Spiga” quilting, while the cushions are upholstered with “Tigresse” velvet - pure animalier - winking at the wildest and sensual spirit of Roberto Cavalli Home Interiors.
12. RAIN ROUND CHANDELIER RESTORATION HARDWARE Master glass designer Alison Berger has created a dramatic evocation of rain, engaging the viewer in an ever-changing pattern of expansion and compression – much like the rhythm of a rainstorm itself. Suspended from slim black cords, drops of hand-blown glass encases the bulbs – creating the illusion of underwater illumination – and cast luminous ripples that wash across ceilings and walls.
13. TOGO CHAIR MICHEL DUCAROY FOR LIGNE ROSET A collection of all-foam cushion seating with no hardpoints. Its characteristic design will fit into both traditional and contemporary furnishing styles.
