SALONE INTRO The Salone Internazionale del Mobile was founded in 1961 as a vehicle for promoting Italian furniture and furnishings exports and soon became the most keenly awaited event in the world of furniture. More than 370,000 attendees on average every year, from 188 different nations, confirm the Salone Internazionale del Mobile’s enormous value as an international showcase for creativity and a forum for industry professionals.
In Milan we could find new collections from the major design brands, product showcases from promising designers and spectacular art installations and events happening across the city. In this guide we unveil what were the major trends that were showcased at this event by spotting common themes among them.

Essential Home & DelightFULL are among those brands and they brought to Milan the classic and beloved bestsellers and some novelties in their collection that is sure to steal hearts.

PLAYFUL DESIGN Circu was built with the dream to allow children to live their own fantasies and create a magical world. With hand-crafted and hand-tailored pieces made in Portugal with the finest materials, the brand delivers only the highest quality furnishings. At Salone del Mobile they presented new products like the Vixey Bed and timeless classics such as the Fantasy Air Balloon that can be both a bed, sofa or crib.

PLAYFUL DESIGN B&B Italia celebrates the 50th anniversary of Le Bambole by Mario Bellini, in a new sustainable version. The original construction was based on a metal structure embedded in polyurethane, now the materials used are of the latest generation, starting from recycled polyethylene. A sustainable project thanks to the choice of materials and the construction method, that allows the components of Le Bambole to be completely disassembled and therefore easily recyclable.
PENDANT LAMPS BY STACKABL
Canadian brand Stackabl presented its new lamps at Milan’s Isola neighborhood. The collection features nine pendant lights made of felt discs put together in a cylindrical shape. Stackabl lighting LE BAMBOLE ARMCHAIR BY B&B ITALIA
collection throws emphasis on sustainable design. The lighting fixtures are made of upcycled felt and aluminum and also feature energy-saving LEDs in them.

PLAYFUL DESIGN Italian design brand Alessi unveiled a tableware collection designed by Virgil Abloh and his London-based design studio and creative agency Alaska Alaska with installation designed by Studio Temp as part of its 100 – 001 exhibition. Designed to resemble everyday hardware tools, the cutlery set comprises a knife, fork and spoon all of which were crafted in stainless steel.

PLAYFUL DESIGN Cutlery, candle holders and chairs were among the numerous items designed by the late Virgil Abloh that were launched at this year’s Milan Design Week. Abloh’s luxury brand Off-White also launched its fourth homewares collection titled “Home 4.0 Organic Feeling”. The collection comprises over 15 Off-White branded home goods including door mats, glazed ceramics and dog bowls. As part of its fourth homewares collection, Off-White launched a trio of white glazed ceramic vases. The vessels were informed by architecture and the natural world and have a tubular form with decorative ceramic appliques covering the exterior.
ALVEA ARMCHAIR BY KICKIE CHUDIKOVA
The scales, legs and tentacles of creepy crawlies, are Kickie Chudikova’s inspiration for her vivid and intricately patterned furniture pieces that will adorn Alcova’s Casa delle Suore. ‘Insectum’ encompasses six objects that mirror the tentacles and wings of insects and bugs as well as the beehives and ecosystems of Arthropods, ethereal pieces evoking a newfound appreciation for a family of creatures otherwise abhorred. The Alvea armchair, derived from the LOGO-PRINT CERAMIC VASE BY OFF-WHITE
Latin word ‘alvearium’ which means beehive, makes up for the overall form of the chair along with the utilization of a vibrant yellow fabric for the seat and the arm ends conjures the image of a throne designed especially for the queen bee.

The special edition of Superonda by Archizoom, in the new terrazzo version with the pattern designed by Bethan Laura Wood, was presented as part of Fuorisalone, during Milan Design Week 2022. This whimsical and multicolored pattern can be used both for the modular sofa and for other products. With its roots in pop culture and design free from constraints, the evolution of Poltronova products is experimented with in terms of both form and materiality, which excellent craftsmanship makes invaluable.
