GERARD FAIVRE Paris, France

The Concept Art Homes is the exception that confirms the rule in the world of decorators, because the team never works on the request of a customer. Driven by the vision of its creator, Gerard Faivre Paris completely metamorphoses Parisian apartments and properties into real works of art ready to be inhabited. The “Art Homes”concept of the Gérard Faivre brand is positioned as the reference of luxury real estate that offers for sale Parisian-styled apartments and properties in Provence, fully renovated, decorated, furnished and ready to live. It’s more than just a concept, a true signature that continues to appeal to their prestigious international clientele. It’s a different way of shopping, one where emotion reigns.

“Our offer is very different from that of traditional real estate agents and especially that of interior designers. It is an alternative that responds to the demand of a foreign clientele that wants to have as few concerns as possible when it wants to acquire a property. And each time, its a love at first sight, an encounter, an emotion.” The originality of the Gérard Faivre brand is never to be confined to a defined style, but rather to create unique and timeless places where classicism rhymes with modernity. For each project, the challenge is to never do twice the same interior. For Gérard, the customer is unique, so its interior must resemble its uniqueness. Then it’s like works of art, it’s a meeting between a place and a person who will or will not have the heart for this product. The inspiration grows deep in Gérard and meets his imagination at the rendezvous point. Often the story of a neighborhood, a building, and even some emblematic piece of a place, becomes a source of inspiration. As to communicate and to spread the word on his achievements, the team has their website and collaborates with a press officer for publication abroad.

07

An opportunity brought Gérard back to Provence, a region he has always loved for its relaxed lifestyle. There, he has worked on two exceptional properties: The Bigot estate in Saint Remy de Provence. An eighteenth-century Mansion, of about 600 m2, stands in a magnificent park of 10 hectares. A lake, an olive grove of 500 feet allowing the production of its own olive oil, a forest with Mediterranean essences, where nestles a cabin, with the breathtaking view constitute this magnificent setting. Provençal-inspired decoration with a nod to the 50’s. And the Mansion Honorine in Les Baux de Provence. The presence of rocky cliffs at the entrance of the property makes it a unique place facing one of the most beautiful villages in France, Les Baux de Provence. This ubiquitous rock inspired Gérard and gave birth to the realization of a ground innovative, micro mortar. Black and white have become obvious and have made the link between the three homes.

A return to a raw art, closer to nature. The studio has also another project in France. A desire to diversify and to have a leitmotiv: that of designing a design habitat, eco-responsible, on a golf course with international recognition. For Gérard, this is more than a challenge, it’s an obligation. He has always respected the authenticity of a place, and develop a real estate program on a golf course, with the exceptional environment, gives him a single objective: that of respecting it by designing a habitat which will integrate with the perfection with the surrounding nature, and will preserve the privacy of everyone. For Gérard, the world should be linked to design, decoration, and architecture. Fusion between original creations and eco-responsible (autonomous house, and innovative material). For the designer, the current and future trend for apartments and houses will always have to be accompanied by crafts. The brand of the “French Touch”. The studio’s clients are looking for unique places in the most popular areas of Paris and Provence. They are accustomed to luxury hotels, to new technology. They are also looking in France, the know-how, this “good French taste” that radiates throughout the world.

PARIS 56 Berlin, Germany

Paris 56 Fine Interiors it’s a Berlin-based showroom, studio and workshop all at the same time. The design company was founded by Detlev Böhnke. The trained architect has specialized himself on interior and furniture design at an early stage of his career. He gained experience with internationally renowned interior designers before he started his own business over 12 years ago. Since then, Detlev Böhnke has realized private and commercial projects all over Europe. Detlev and his team carry out projects from the first sketch, through all stages of construction, to the completion. During planning, the team works with 3D animations and photorealistic renderings, so that the client can have a very exact idea of the final project right from the beginning. You will notice at first glance that Paris 56 never relies on standard solutions. Their work impresses with originality, attention to detail and a special sense for the people for whom they are intended. Every project is based on the perfect chemistry with the client, otherwise, the cooperation doesn’t work. Most of the good projects become good friendships, because of the need to talk about a lot of private details of everyday life in order to achieve the perfect result.

“Our customers are very different. Every customer has their own and individual wishes. Every customer has new challenges to be met. There is no recipe yet. Sometimes you are more a psychologist than an interior designer. From the beginning, customers are always involved in the development process in order to optimize the results.”

09

When it comes to design trends, Detlev follows a mixture of classic contemporary design, retro-styled and glamorous with exquisite colours and finishes. New highmodern luminaires, as well as geometric and naturalistic elements in shape, print and colour are always present in their projects. The team is inspired by some of the biggest names in design, such as Jean Michel Frank, Vladimir Kagan, Jean Royere, David Hicks, Hans-JĂźrgen Wegner and AndrĂŠ Putman.

For the future, Paris 56’s will continue to be retro-leaning and organic, naturalistic, with geometric shapes and colours - reinterpreting traditional materials in a high-end new version and quality. 11

I had already designed an aircraft but somehow because it was so small it was more of a challenge.” 15

JORGE CAÑETE Concise, Switzerland Jorge Cañete is the perfect example of a person who has a multicultural background. Being Genevan of Catalan and Andalusian origin, fate would eventually lead him into devoting his life to interior design. Having a unique career in luxury products aligned with a sharp sense of beauty, thanks to his talents for interior design manifested through 3D, he definitely managed to make a mart within the industry thanks to both his talent and his philosophy. He started giving his first steps into this area when he graduated from the course of Interior Design from the London Metropolitan University. After that he went through many architectural projects in several architecture studios located in the cities of Rome and Geneva. These past experiences were the launchpad for the launching of his own studio titled Interior Design Philosophy. Interior Design Philosophy is the perfect example of a studio with a unique philosophy in the approach to customers. One of their main keywords is “Serendipity”, which means “happy accident” or “pleasant surprise”. In other words the studio has the tactic of, according to their homepage, “finding something good or useful while not specifically searching for it”. The projects bear a heavy inspiration from factors such as the environment, the location, and also the client’s personality, starting the whole process as a “white page” in which the story and values of the client will be written. When asked about what he loves most about his work, Cañete points to the contact with people, due to the fact that he has the habit of defining his job as a “mirror” that has to reflect the personality and emotions of the clients, seen that they are the main source of the inspiration for his work. When it came to the matter if he has achieved everything he wanted in his life Cañete gave an answer thinking about what expects him further down his career path.

16

Thanks to his unique take on interiors, Jorge Cañete has an alternative proposal for his clients, introducing a little poetic vision of the world by mixing in modern and classical elements. Some of the main keywords for Interior Design Philosophy are areas such as art, poetry and philosophy. Curiously enough, when asked about what he believes are the top trends that are currently dominating the interior design industry from a creative perspective he admitted that “trends” are not really the main topic that comes to mind. Cañete has manifested hope regarding the future of interior design. From his point of view the the human, and emotional side are two essential elements that definitely must always remain the center and the heart of each interior design project. And for him the work of craftsmen is essential in that sense.

It was a time of high risks and all responsibility belonged to me. In our country not everyone would open the studio because its complicated – our legislation doesn’t cover that field. I think I’m still fighting for ability to show the unique design instead of mainstream and cheap fakes. In our country for a long time there was a Soviet Russian Design which means that everyone had the same style, and even the same chairs and tables made on one manufacture. It was called standart. But nowadays everything has changed but people’s mind still live in that epoch.” That’s why one of Maltsev first Goals in the Design Industry was to revive Russian design and show it all over the world because it has a significant history. While analysing today’s Russia, Maltsev reflects that Russia has a lot of young designers who can be competitive to western colleagues but they need help with legislative system which they don’t have in Russia and this is one of his battles. Aside from create beautiful places to make people live with happiness in theirs homes, the renowned Russian designer is also pushing for better and more efficient laws within the Russian Design Industry.

24

25

Maltsev expects that in a near future the Design Industry will require a kind of virtuality, mobility, modernity and functionalism that only machines can provide. Eco-friendly technologies will come to new levels and they would be affordable for everyone. He hopes that pretty soon every house will have a eco-friendly technology that also follows the minimalist trend.

However, despite the advances of Technology, Maltsev considers important not to forget about the value of Craftsmanship. In some of his furniture pieces, he uses ancient techniques that he believes value the piece. the renowned designer recalls his partnership with Lison De Caunes, a French professional in the marquetry world that collaborated with Maltsev in a creation of stunning and unique wood piece for his furniture collection. For Vadim Maltsev, a handmade item always has the right energy and gives the space a fullness and a certain spirit.

TOMAS PEARCE Toronto, Canada Tomas Pearce is, at the moment, one of Canada’s most precious acquisitions when it comes to design! Based in downtown Toronto, this interior design company is ambitiously led by main partners Melandro Quilatan and Tania Richardson. Together, they feature a team of experts that stand out through the most amazing settings, on a large spectrum of commercial and residential interior design services. Located in the heart of Toronto, you’ll find an inspiring interior design company, Tomas Pearce Interior Design Consulting Inc! This team of experts is led by Principal Partners Melandro Quilatan and Tania Richardson, along with talented Interior Designers, Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Architectural Technologists, Stylists, and Procurement Agents.

27

They proudly provide a massive range of commercial and residential interior design services, space planning, project management and interior styling to a multinational client base. In order to achieve this incredible status within the interior design world, they had to overcome many obstacles throughout the years, especially at the beginning of their careers. “Evolving our inner-workings as a firm was challenging, especially during the first few years of our practice. As Tomas Pearce experienced rapid growth and took on additional clients, we found ourselves reacting in ‘high gear’ to the demands of an overflowing workload. Stepping back to assess the office culture clarified that, by instilling universal processes, we could take a more healthy and proactive approach to manage our multiple projects”.

The interior design firm recently celebrated their 14th anniversary and they couldn’t be more happy to achieve these many years of experience, that granted them so much knowledge within this industry. Although they’re very happy with their journey, they would be over the moon if they could embrace luxury hotel projects, since they’ve established their value with exquisite commercial and residential spaces, with the need to create absolute and magnificent settings, their main goal is to see the client’s reaction in every project. By creating a bespoke relationship with their clients, the interior design firm believes that word-of-mouth referrals are the greatest way to attract potential clients, as well as social media, so everyone that’s interested could follow their work. 29

This firm is also responsible for many bespoke private vacation homes, winter chalets, summer homes and exclusive ranches. In every project they embrace, their goal is to complete it with the latest trends and most exquisite pieces of furniture. Nonetheless, they think that “it is more desirable to attend global design shows. Not only are they a fantastic reason to experience and explore different parts of the world, but they showcase the newest and most innovative products, brands, and projects. That said, we believe that most trends are seasonal and have a short shelf life. For Tomas Pearce and our clients, longevity is extremely important. Rather than searching outward for inspiration, we always encourage our team to BE the inspiration. By being the inspiration, their level of standards and expectation for quality and craftsmanship is extremely high.

30

Within the company’s ideals, in order to become a top interior design firm in this industry, they must be aligned with “trades, craftsmen, construction teams, fabricators, and artisans who are all at the top of their respective games”. When it comes to talking about the future, Melandro Quilatan really thinks that it will be “technology-driven”. With the constant development of technology, as well as sustainability, he affirms that “new products will be developed that will provide not only beauty but practicality - all the while following the quest to protect our natural resources”. As an interior design company, Tomas Pearce is a firm that believes in the “ease of life, escapism, and adventure are some words that I believe will continue to be on the pulse of design inspiration in the future”. 32

JAMIE BUSH Los Angeles, California, USA

This interior designer needs no introduction because he’s one of the top interior designers in Los Angeles and, of course, at a worldwide level. Born and raised in Long Island, we present Jamie Bush + Co, an interior designer that was constantly surrounded by design, art, and photography from a very young age. Jamie Bush + Co is massively recognized for the prestigious settings he is able to compose within his interior design projects.

34

35

He thrives professionally when he has “a client that trusts me and allows me to create a home for them that is a complete artistic vision”. That is an ultimate joy for the designer because he’s able to transform a space into something magnificent, focusing on his design identity, as well as respecting the client’s taste and personality. His main goal is to completely satisfy them, because “our clients tend to be sophisticated individuals looking for a casual California modern lifestyle that is livable, filled with color and texture with furnishings that have a story to tell. Pieces that may be vintage or custom designs we create specifically for them or a collaboration with an artisan. Some clients are very involved in the whole process and some not at all – it all depends on interest and honestly if they have the time”. To make them justice, he perfectly keeps up with the typical California lifestyle, to create stunning settings.

37

Jamie Bush + Co founded his own interior architecture and design firm in 2002 and has already transformed some of the most incredible and historical residential modernist homes in the United States. Although he is highly recognizable for his astounding work, he has overcome his fair share of challenging times. “Like many people, the financial crisis of 2008 was devastating to our business and we had to let almost everyone go and honestly slowly start over. We paired down and took anything that paid the bills and slowly got to work again. Luckily, we already had a clientele and a portfolio of completed and published work which gave us a boost once the economy started to turn around. I always felt bad for designers just starting out at that time but now, fortunately, everyone is busy”. There are more difficult economic phases, but the designer was able to successfully grow throughout all of that. His firm has collaborated with some of the most respected names in the business including Steven Ehrlich, Marmol Radziner, David Hertz, and many more. Jamie’s designs have been featured in over 70 publications worldwide including Architectural Digest, Interior Design, Vogue, Elle Decor, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times. The 2019 Elle Decor’s A-List designer states that Los Angeles, Asheville NC and NYC craftsmen are definitely leading the way into the concept of the craftsmanship. As the future goes for interior design, he finds it hard to say what’s coming but he definitely thinks that “mass production, modular housing, and more environmentally conscience fabrication is already happening”.

MERVE KAHRAMAN New York City, New York, USA

Merve Kahraman doesn’t need an introduction to let every interior design lover know that she’s one of the most inspiring interior designers in North America. Her Mid-Century with a Modern twist unveils the most luxurious and authentic projects you’ll ever get to see in this design industry. Discover the exclusive interview starring this original designer. Presenting Merve Kahraman, one of North America’s top interior designer that shares a curriculum that you would be absolutely jealous of. It all began when the designer entered the education path, where she studied Interior Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design, in Milan. After some successful years, she moved to London to take an MA in Product Design from the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. During this educational experience, she worked in several architecture and design studios in London, New York and Istanbul including Tom Dixon and Tord Boontje.

“After finishing grad school, I decided to create my own brand instead of working in an architectural office. It took some courage to make that decision. Knowing that it was the right decision encouraged me”. The originality of the Gérard Faivre brand is never to be confined to a defined style, but rather to create unique and timeless places where classicism rhymes with modernity. The designer found her inner strength and empowerment, and took the right step towards her amazing success, which is now a great part of her as a professional within the interior design world. It’s through the humour that she practices her art, either on interior design or even industrial design, an area where she is specialized. Conceptualizing her work style as “unique, daring and nostalgic”, she displays the most incredible projects, that are able to demonstrate bold settings, as well as a Mid-Century style decor, that is embellished with some modern twists. With that style base in mind, she focuses on placements with custom pieces of furniture, typically retro, with their geometric and asymmetric features. 42

Her decision to specialize in industrial design comes from the thought and desire of wanting to include furniture and products as an integral part of her designs for spaces. That means that the search for customized pieces, that you won’t see anywhere, are what really transforms every space into the style that’s desired by potential clients. The interior designer establishes herself through design icons such as Achille Castiglioni and Piero Fornasetti, who are the perfect icons to inspire her into new and exquisite projects. Those projects that she embraces, are usually due to “inquiries for the client’s personal space where they share it with their families, which makes it more intimate”. That makes Merve Kahraman the go-to designer to establish familiar and sophisticated settings, where a family is perfectly capable of feeling comfortable and safe. In her works, she explores the relationship between her products and their users.

45

The interior designer is working on her own industrial design and interior design projects between New York and Istanbul. She has also launched a new collection of incredible furniture, “Cassini Lighting Series and I am working on designing tables within the same concept right now, experimenting with the traditional material of rattan. After the completion of these series, I am planning to do some designs with neon and glass. Although she’s planning many exciting projects ahead that she wants to enjoy in the present, she has yet to fulfill her dream of working on a film set design. Her studio offers a full interior design service, that includes concept design, project design development, architectural drawings and 3D visualization, brand identity and graphic design, on-site inspections and interior architecture applications. All of her products are designer by her, and the production is made by her team in Istanbul.

NOMADE ATELIER Mexico City, Mexico

Founded in 2012 by Diana Quintero Vallejo and Ismael Bachri, this exclusive design and production workshop called Nomade Atelier counts with a team of distinguished artisans, architects, and visual artists. Inspired by their rich cultural baggage, they are dedicated to the design ideas that take shape with the manufacture of custom objects and furniture for residential, public and commercial spaces, as well as artistic, scenographic and museum installations. Originally from France, Ismael Bachri moved to the busy Mexico city to pursue his dream of becoming a renowned designer. “I am very happy and proud to have achieved one of the most important goals for me, but I hope to be young enough in mind to say that I have not achieved everything.” Through this crazy life-changing experience, the founder of Nomade Atelier faced several obstacles in her journey when he decided to quit his job in an architecture office and move to a country where he had to learn a new language! “I overcame it by working with Diana and finding this creativity synergy where we had no limits or fears”, explained Bachri. On the other hand, Diana Quintero Vallejo main obstacle was to forget her old professional habits and routines, to embrace new challenges and learn new production methods and “languages” in the design industry. The co-founder of the renowned Nomade Atelier confesses that she “always liked to work and learn new media, so little by little I was overcoming the fear of the new challenges that arose, and of course, I wasn’t alone I had the best partner to do it”. Luckily Vallejo has fulfilled most of her childhood dreams thanks to her hard work and commitment skills. “Although I have fewer dreams on the list, I think it is very important to always have dreams to give us drive in life.”

50

They believe that the line between arts and design is starting to be quite thin, since, in today’s industry the final product has its own narrative (no matter the brand) thanks to the reassessment of design and its production method. “The design of sculptural objects with functionality and spaces or renders that are more like paintings than living spaces is very fashionable”, clarified Diana Vallejo. Currently, the Nomade Atelier team is working on several new projects with the goal to search for new ideas. “New ways of experiencing a piece of design is in our DNA as a studio and we would love to collaborate with new producers to experiment with new materials and production processes”. High-quality craftsmanship techniques are one of the biggest foundations of these designers inspiring work. “We love to think that Italy continues being the leader in terms of craftsmanship since they have a very old knowledge of all the processes of production of objects of very high quality and their capacity to reinvent these artisan processes from generation to generation in a highly globalized world.” For the near future of the design industry, the Nomade Atelier would like to have a re-evaluation of the artisan, the conscious reduction of fast design that will return us to the use of natural materials that did not go through a very strong industrial process, without so much waste, that would make us own fewer objects with more value in itself.”

THE BEST INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECTS RESIDENTIAL

ALTAMOUNT RESIDENCE by HBA Singapore Mumbai, India

Altamount Residence is one of the design projects from HBA, Hirsch Bedner Associates. HBA is an international hospitality design firm that has been leading the hotel design industry and is renowned to be the biggest design firm in the world. The one that can identify trends and predict new directions and innovations. This residence was inspired by the multi-layered urbanity and culture of Mumbai, so the living room turned out to be the most pleasuring place in the residence to enjoy the city’s aesthetic from both the inside and outside. It gives the sensation of being on top of the world while being captivated by the breath-taking landscape and design. The room’s midnight blue chairs perfectly match with the hues of the early night sky and the furniture’s delicate light tones, joined by the gold elements of the Eden piece soften the place becoming a pleasing harmony.

Influenced by trees and flora, and just like trees grow with singular shapes and exquisite textures, each piece is uniquely crafted and transmit exclusive feelings. In the middle of this luminous and spacious living area and surrounded by vividcoloured the details turned out to be the mystic and magic history to wonder about. Going to the next room of the residence, adorned by marble from the bottom to the top, the kitchen radiates a speckles and graceful ambiance. Giving up the blue, grey and gold palette, sometimes simplicity is the key to add richness and this room’s design is the perfect demonstration of that.

65

Entering the bedroom, the wish for an open bright space is noticeable and it was assuredly granted. Matching the light that radiates through the windows, the design also lights up the entire division. There is beauty in simplicity, and its grey and white reveal the purest form of beauty of design. Surprising with a yellow and green splash to wrap everything together, the entire room gives a pleasurable warm welcome.

68

The whole picture makes the viewer feel glamour and luxury, and no matter how small, the attention to detail and the stunning accessory selection became essentials for the designer for this layered experience to be felt even on the extraordinary bathroom aesthetic right through every golden corner.

GRAND VICTORIAN HOUSE by Brendan Wong Sidney, Australia

A summer design inspiration where neutral colors thrive and the green emerald gives life to the entire ambiance. Built around 1891, the exquisite and classic exterior features were essentially intact: fine cast-iron lacework to verandahs, intricate eaves supports, central arched entrance, and a tower that would once have led to a widow’s walk.

71

The wide entrance hallway does fits perfectly in the demands of the designer. The mirror-like reflective finish against the black Japan floorboards, original cedar staircase and traditional semi-circular archway is a bold surprise and sets the tone for the connecting rooms. There is a wonderful dialogue between the traditional and contemporary style.

72

Silk rugs in the Living and Dining room are a classic element, while velvet upholstery and a shagreen coffee table provide a luxury touch. Custom-made contemporary mirrors over the original mantelpieces are intentionally edgy and, like a piece of art, lift and lighten the mood of both environments. Just right above of this creative ambiance design lovers can find a sizable master bedroom that breaths a quiet relaxing outlook. “They wanted modern elegance with warmth, but not too uptight. The intention was to create a strong first impression. Then, they wanted the finest details, new textures and finishes to be revealed gradually, rather than be completely obvious.

92

Nadezhda And George met the owners of this property ten years ago the family with Russian roots decided to reinvent the house they bought in 1980s-1990s near New York and make it their permanent address, still reminiscent of the late 80’s with a retro appeal, but still a very modern twist on the overall aesthetics. Imagined in blazing and unusual colors and the very own play on them: the result was an amazing interior in vintage style with contemporary furniture. The mixture of pattern and materials, but specially the blend of different shapes: Harsh and strict lines from the vintage furniture batter completely with the shapeless and fluidity the modern designs, creating an appealing and showstopper interior design.

It was important to make a statement with expressive walls through bright wallpapers, combine artistic and remarkable furniture and also outstanding and even provocative pieces of art. The first floor gathers singular public area, which is a suite of rooms closed in a circle. On the second floor – a private area. There is one room for each child and a separate outhouse for the guests. The walls remained in the same place – the Ananievs did not move them, but completely cleaned the “stuffing”, leaving only the doors, as the designers found them really beautiful and in conformity with the concept.

97

Set in the amazing view of Dubai’s landscapes, this apartment interior design is for a high caliber VIP. With extraordinaire use of black and golds, completely corresponding to the demands of what to expect from the characteristics opulent interior design aesthetic of Dubai. The client’s brief was to create a very dramatic statement in the main reception area, with a slightly masculine feel, but with softened areas so that it didn’t look too hard and austere. Celia used a lot of gold accessories, and textures to soften things up, and with the entrance into the main reception, created lightboxes to show off the client’s crystal. 103

In the centre of the living area, right above is a lavish and grandiose Empire Chandelier. A piece with a striking and eye-catching appearance, a masterpiece with an extravagant shape, transforming the living room into a stunning scenario and creating an exclusive atmosphere. A bit more discrete, but still merging with the gold hues from all the living room and with a more down to earth exuberance are the little accessories and case goods, that complete the overall look, but are still very subtle compared to the exuberance of all the lighting, crystals and mirrors used in the project. CONTEMPORARY PENTHOUSE by Benning Design Constructions Sacramento, Californis, USA With a stunning view of the city of Sacramento, California, is the penthouse designed by Benning Design Construction. The build-company was created by father and son that originated from two of Sacramento’s established and successful interior design and construction firms. This penthouse was created for clients who chose a comfortable contemporary aesthetic. “Citified with a bit of glamour” was the mantra – and it was a huge challenge for the designers. The highest priority in this interior design was to allow the sight to remain free and able to speak for itself. In order to still be able to provide interesting design elements, products were intentionally kept either low to the ground or high to the ceiling. Upon entering the penthouse, there’s an immediate focal point, a bold bronze sculpture at the window, drawing the eye to the glass and beyond. The walls and ceilings were given a faux finish of metallic woven, grass-cloth texture, bringing an element of glamour and drama.

108

The house is glass-surrounded and to avoid issues with glare, every lighting element is dimmable and soft. Horus suspension light crowns the great room with a hint of European sensibility. To contrast the linear aspects of the great room, a large irregularly-shaped sectional was employed. The sectional provides flexible seating with opportunity for both internal and external views, conversation, or reading. It was paired with two iconic Mario Bellini lounge chairs that provide an elegant vibe to the space. The great room is anchored by a 20’ round wool rug, which also serves to establish a separate area within the larger scope of the space.

109

Moving into the dining room, individual pendants adorn the split dining table. The custom dining table top became a true piece of art. It showcases a laser-cut brass panel with a map of Sacramento, the client’s hometown, speaking to his passion for maps and adding another layer of dimension and interest.

110

The designers wanted to give the house a special touch, with the tastes, preferences, and memories of the clients. For this, in the Master bedroom an art piece was hung above the bed, blending a lifetime of poems, photographs, and song lyrics into a visual representation of a classic love story.

111

Adjacent to this art piece is a full-size print of the client’s own photography, backlit and custom-framed to add personality to a room full of exquisite art. A collection of outstanding pieces, that would make any art collector proud, complete this couple’s penthouse. By taking into consideration customers’ preferences, Benning Design Constructions created a perfect house for a weekend getaway with stunning city views and relaxing spaces.

ART DECO HOUSE by Marina Braginska Moscow, Russia

A house located in the village of Molodoleno, near Moscow, was designed by Marina Braginska, a well-known interior designer from Russia. The clients were expecting a house in a classic American style; however, Marina was not sure about it. When asking them about their film preferences and building references, she was able to truly understand the type of design they were looking for – Art Deco. Atelier Interior is a design studio owned by Marina which works in a variety of styles, depending on the customers’ preferences. Although they offer this versatility, Marina has her signature, which is possible to recognise through big bold paintings in the interior decoration, as well as in bright textiles and in the use of colour. Since the beginning of this project, Marina and her team knew that Art Deco was the perfect style for the house, which combined modern themes with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. Having this harmony of ideas, the designer offered to decorate the house with a soft modern approach, always emphasising the airiness of the space. The house has two main floors, a basement, and an attic.

119

The first floor has a kitchen, a dining room, two offices, and a guest bathroom, while on the second floor there is a bedroom, the children’s room, two bathrooms, and a dressing room. The living room full of natural light gives special attention to its beautiful features and textures. Two inviting sofas around the centre table will allow guests to feel comfortable near a marble fireplace.

120

121

In the dining room, the graceful lighting awakes the senses and offers a space to enjoy a delicious family meal. Two sophisticated offices with strategically furnishing and inspiring art will, for sure, be a great space to work at home and increase creativity. It perfectly reflects the style of the house and promotes the inviting environment of the other house divisions.

123

In the bedrooms, Marina used delicate shades and unusual textiles. The bathroom area is small, but the designer visually enlarged it: she hung a huge mirror over the sink, and at the opposite side she trimmed the wall with glossy marble - they are gently reflected in each other. 124

125

126

The owners are wine enthusiasts and are going to create a wine cellar on the ground floor. Now, there is a home cinema and a bar area, which Marina painted in a deeper wine shade from floor to ceiling, to emphasise the depth of the space. Here she also used two comfortable Hera Armchairs in the same burgundy colour. This project is the proof given by Marina that sometimes, risks are necessary and playing safe is not the best solution. By taking into consideration the customers tastes and preferences, the designer has created an artdeco home which carries with it all the family’s dreams.

An intimate and crucial space to the entire home, without a doubt, was also the bedroom, designed with neutral colors, splashes of subtle and elegant golden, and a mix of oriental and mid-century modern design, and what better way to find a focal piece than a lounge chair where geometric sleek lines merge with comfort, customized in stunning light gray velvet and a touch of golden brass that is unmistakably essential to the vibe of the room, it’s impossible not to fall in love with this piece.

ART-DECO GREYBROOK PENTHOUSE by Fenton Whelan London, United Kingdom When we talk about Art Deco we must talk about Fenton Whelan, an awardwinning multi-unique boutique, residential development in London’s Mayfair where they can so easily and perfectly combine the Art Déco with contemporary living. With refined attention to detail and delivering highly complex projects with incredible design, it’s no surprise the Greybrook Penthouse is a dream come true.

146

Since having been developed in the Grosvenor family, this affluent area has never lost its desirable status and has since then become, not just one of the most expensive areas in London, but it ranks among the most expensive worldwide. With its close proximity to the center of London, seemingly endless luxury Georgian townhouses, leafy streets, and high-end establishments it is no wonder why it has kept this reputation since its founding. Located right in the heart of Mayfair, Greybrook House is a perfect mix between Grosvenor Square and New Bond Street, and although you find an impressive heritage of Mayfair and is one of its greatest selling-points, it often becomes a drawback so the option was to blend modern living with the exteriors of these historic buildings without feeling a disconnected.

147

What Fenton Whelan has managed to do, without mistake, is to blend a modern style with art-deco. Not only does it come across as a natural blend but it offers a flow from the building’s exterior to the interior while keeping its spirit alive.

150

The level of craftsmanship is truly unbelievable and takes us back to the time before mass production. The flow from room to room creates an inviting feel while still highlighting its expansive floor space with oak wood floors and natural oil finish throughout with 2.6-metre doors with matching architraves and antique gold trim through the residence all the details are a time traveled experiencie. 151

In every home the kitchen must surely be the soulof the house and in this one has to be one of favourites in London. From the vintage-styled padded-walls, marble floor in feature pattern, to the the perfect contrast of the power of gold with the calm and tranquility of white, this kitchen is a bright and inviting room. While remaining practical at the core it is as cosmopolitan and picture perfect as the rest of the property. But what really draws us to this kitchen is the divisions created within this room. From the elegant breakfast nook to the modern bespoke kitchen island with seating, it is a room with endless focal points and fulfils virtually any lifestyle need.

152

Impossible not to notice the upright, the elegance of the master suite that can be seen in the lacquered finish wardrobes and the Alcantara upholstered headboard. This suite is framed by the Noir Saint Laurent book-matched feature wall and marbled pattern flooring.

154

And what a better way to finish tham with Mayfair Rooftop Garden London has ever seen. On the upper floor, there is a wrap around terrace which is accessible from both the dining room or sitting room. But the rooftop terrace is possibly our favourite part of the entire property. The large area offers exceptional views of the capital and is the ultimate spot for sundowners. As well as for breakfast, lunch – come to think of it, you just never want to leave.

MODERN BRITISH HOUSE by Zulufish Ltd London, United Kingdom

An award-winning West London-based Design Build and Interiors consultancy, Zulufish, had the challenge to transform a dark five-bedroom Edwardian detached house into a colourful, light free-flowing family home. The company’s inspiration was modern British design, with a timeless feel. Zulufish’s motto is always working based on the clients’ needs. Samuel and his wife, Betty, were looking for the perfect place where they could put down roots. Having discounted various long and narrow Victorian properties, it was the generous proportions of the fivebedroom Edwardian house that the couple were drawn to and could envisage sharing with their two children. Everything started with the design of the main family room: the kitchen. The design and build company removed a corridor from the hall to kitchen and designed three sets of double doors for inter-connecting rooms to link the social spaces of the ground floor. The dark walnut veneer and satin smooth cappuccino spray-painted counter of the kitchen, are given extra depth by the contrasting bronze steel details.

The clients fell in love with the colourful Paul Smith rugs, setting the tone for the rest of the scheme as the company was able to pull out those colours in the furniture and accessories. Dramatic lighting was also key, using two coordinating sculptural hoop pendants and multiple spherical glass lights that were hung throughout the interconnecting rooms.

157

160

In one of the common rooms, a coffee table perfectly blends with the overall decor. This table combines four different materials and finishes as a pallisander veneer, black lacquer, polished brass, and aged brass. All these components cross and integrate harmoniously, creating the Contemporary feeling in this room. The rest of the house doesn’t disappoint. The unique dining room bar joinery design is stylish, contemporary and warm.

161

Upstairs the master bedroom headboard spans the entire wall and opposite a 3D feature wall conceals the TV. . In the bathroom the company went for a modern luxury spa feel with a deep oval bath and design-led brassware. The finale room was the impressive office which was opened into the eaves above a mezzanine level with a spectacular double-height Wenge bookcase with bronze railings and ladder as a feature.

162

163

Although it seems that this project was easily conceived because of its fresh look, the company had to overcome a challenge. They wanted to maximize the open plan aspect of the ground floor without compromising the size of the living areas. This proved tricky due to the inherent nature of London house being narrow. They pulled out this obstacle by removing the hallway leading to the kitchen, to create more room in the “family room yet retained another route to the kitchen through the utility room. The result was an open wide space house combined with modern and funny decoration, where every room is enjoyed to the max.

NOAH’S ARK NURSERY by Carrie Livingston Los Angeles, California, USA

The project, by Carrie Livingston, took place in the city of dreams, Los Angeles, that was the perfect fit for this luxurious nursery, inspired by the natural elements of Noah’s Ark. Carrie Livingston is a well-known interior designer and leads a prestigious company in the heart of LA. 168

169

This residential project was inspired by Noah’s Ark narrative, and it ended up being the most special and treasured place in the house. The challenge was big. Carrie had to create a room that would be both special and simple enough for a newborn to start his life and still correspond to the parents wishes and needs. The nursery was customized to every single detail and it turned out to be the perfect space for a little baby to start his big adventure: Life. Following the client’s wishes and her very personal and simple style, Carrie admitted to take “each project as a unique opportunity to create a magic and luxurious room but still very practical and neutral for a newborn”.

170

A nursery, specially for a newborn, need to have a lot of room to storage all the needs. For that special request the Fantasy Air pieces, both customized, were the go to choice because it has two very important characteristics: vintage luxury look and a lot of space, while maintaining the elegance and geometric aesthetic of the room. Because the Residential had the luck of being greeted with the view of the Pacific Ocean and being the Noah’s Ark the theme of the project, the nursery was filled with sea and nature elements, color tones in the shades of blue and complemented by some bold animal patterns. The atmosphere automatically transports us to a world of discoveries and the beginning of a new adventure.

The room’s cloud shaped white pendant lamp perfectly matched with the colors of the nursery and the furniture’s delicate tones, creating a atmosphere of peace and serenity. The whole picture of the nursery makes the viewer feel the luxury of the space but still the simplicity of the details and pieces that complemented the room. It’s is a painting of an adventure about to start.

However, his favourite part of the process are the difficulties and obstacles you may find along the way, saying that fixing those issues makes him “eternally happy”. Marcel Wanders and Barovier & Toso have been working together for the past seven years, creating one-of-a-kind, eccentric pieces like rotating chandeliers or glass puppets. JOANA ASTOLFI Lisbon, Portugal

Joana Astolfi is an artist, architect and designer who draws visual inspiration from a broad universe of found objects. Porcelain statuettes, miniatures, vintage chairs, lamps, toys, diaries and photographs of people she never met populate and shape her creative vision. Her artworks, installations and window displays are inspired by imperfections, mistakes and the irrepressibility of humor. A keen sense of history also characterizes her interior design and architectural work for commercial and private clients. Distinctive surfaces, fixtures, details, textures and patinas bring depth and complexity to clean, simple lines and illuminated open spaces, always with an eye toward the history and memory of the place. Astolfi sees objects and spaces as experiences, caught in time, but also capable of transcending and bridging time - and she leads her audiences on this fantastic journey.

“For me, everything comes from art. Although I am an architect, everything comes from the basis of art, so I always make a very strong connection between art and architecture.” The originality of the Gérard Faivre brand is never to be confined to a defined style, but rather to create unique and timeless places where classicism rhymes with modernity. Starting from Joana’s creative vision, Studio Astolfi is a team of artists, architects, and technicians who specialize in telling stories, evoking memories, and captivating the curiosity of our audiences. Studio Astolfi has created projects for Hermès, Belcanto, Bairro do Avillez, Claus Porto, São Lourenço do Barrocal, A Padaria Portuguesa, Lx Factory, PARK Bar, João Manzarra, André Ópticas and NOS, among many others.

For Joana, it’s all about concept. She needs to tell a story, her story. It’s all about a narrative, and how to best portray it. It’s a conjugation between art, architecture and a story, ultimately creating a full painting. When it comes to challenges, the artist highlighted two biggest challenges that she usually faces: time and budget. Time, because the Sistine Chapel wasn’t painted in just one night. And budget because you can’t really put a price on an artistic intervention.

KOKAI STUDIOS Shangai, China

Kokaistudios consists of a company first created by Italian architects Filippo Gabbiani and Andrea Destefanis in 2000, which would later evolve with the creation of a Shanghai office in 2002. This is the perfect example of a truly multicultural firm that has managed to establish a global presence with a series of projects in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America. Located on one of Shanghai’s most beautiful historical streets, in a 19th-century building that overlooks an urban oasis of traditional Chinese gardens, their office stands as a physical testament to one of Kokaistudios’ core beliefs and areas of practice. Their mission is to create spaces and experiences that make the life of people better. Every project they do from private to public, from interiors to architecture, is always focused on creating empathy between people and the environment. They feel extremely gratified observing how people interact and establish a strong empathy with their projects. Primarily focused on developing cultural, corporate, commercial, hospitality and retail projects, they have also worked extensively on urban regeneration projects involving the requalification of heritage locations. They don’t have a style, in fact, they always avoid to repeat or reuse formal solutions. As a firm active in many fields of design, they have attracted a multicultural group of passionate and talented architects and designers who are all “thinking minds” that work together to drive the creation of innovative projects.

224

They are very committed to a continuous and straight forward open discussion with clients, audience and, most of all, final users both in academic or social lifestyle environments. Since their design approach is quite different from the standard professional and technical ones, they use a multimedia narrative way to disclose the dynamics and the entire creative process, revealing the most “intimate and interesting aspects of their work.

According to Kokaistudios, their clients need to be very passionate and visionary about their projects and they need to be open to cooperate together into an original design process, with the common target to create something really innovative, focused into the final users’ benefits on long terms.

226

With the strategic focus on only taking projects where they can fully apply their design vision, to create interesting and important projects, they have created a platform for their teams to learn and grow and be at the forefront of the design environment in China, while working in a supportive and friendly environment. Kokaistudios is currently working on a large number of projects worldwide; from the definition of new, innovative lifestyle commercial and mix-use projects, reconnected to the cities where they are located, to sophisticated tailor-made hospitality products. They are also very active in the creation of an innovative retail concept that can adapt to the fastchanging markets and society demands.

229

When it comes to the future of design, Kokaistudios would like to see the design become really a service to society, considering the real different needs that each different environment express. They would like to see the architects and designers avoiding a flattening process of design approach caused by the use of standard visual references and the globalization of the international markets.

THE HANGING GARDENS OF BERTHELOT RESTAURANT by I Love Colours Design Studio Bucharest, Romania

Berthelot Hotel opened 8 years ago in Bucharest, with an uncovered outdoor terrace used only in the hot weather. In time, the hotel felt the need to enlarge the restaurant area and explored the possibility of using this space to appeal to more than just the hotel guests. At the end of 2014, the hotel owners initiated a project to cover the terrace with a glass and metal structure.

248

This has been designed so as to allow maximum natural light creating a modern, bright space. The Hanging Gardens are a incredible opportunity to have a lunch or dinner and enjoy all the decoration that has come from the brilliant mind of Alexandra. If you love a place where you can eat well and you can feel the power for nature, side by side with high-quality interior design, this is just the right place for it.

250

According to Alexandra Zabunov Henry, the interior designer of this amazing project, she wanted to introduce the element of abundant natural vegetation to balance the amount of glass and metal that were used to cover the terrace. Within this project you can discover an organic approach using fluid curvaceous shapes and was continued in all details and interior fitttings. 251

The sofa follows the shape of the wall and was also custom made to exact specifications and the two tone green fabrics have completed the picture of a natural terrace. The large areas of glass resulted in acoustic problems, something that is particularly important in the public space of a restaurant. This was solved with wall padding and the addition of sound-absorbing materials, in the sofa as well as installing a curtain at the entrance. The padded wall replaced the building ventilated faรงade system and in this way the outer wall of the hotel was visually transformed into an interior wall.

COCKTAIL RETRO BAR by Michael Malapert Paris, France Located in the art of the Quartier Latin, near the Luxembourg gardens and the Pantheon, the Hotel André Latin is placed in the 5 th Arrondissement of Paris, one of the oldest districts of the city. The owners, Fabien and Guillaume Sodano reinvented the hotel influenced by the iconic era, adding a modern twist and a very friendly and welcoming environment. Also, the brothers wanted the hotel to be full of elegance and authenticity. The new cocktail bar, named André Latin, aims to welcome the guests of the hotel into an unique world. The bar has 34 seats and a terrace that can be accessed directly from the street. Inspired by the ’50s, the cocktail bar has a warm atmosphere and a clever combination of luxurious tweed sofas, marble bistro tables, mirrors, Art Deco illustrations, and retro furniture. It’s an unusual place that aims to welcome all generations. Michael Malapert was the designer of the project, and he worked to revive the soul of André Sodano.

262

The designer was inspired by the origins and the history of the dandyism of the 19th century and put all of his creative energy to the project. The redesign of the hotel was projected from the ground floor and all its four areas: lobby with concept store and reception, living room, and bar. Along the bar, the designer used noble materials like marble, brass, solid wood, beveled mirrors, graphic wallpaper, and exquisite gold metal wall chandeliers that give to the entire scene a 50’s vibe. The black and white paving in ceramic matches perfectly with the lighting.

263

We can consider this place as a magic one and what means this? The first moment you enter here you’ll find your self in the middle of the century, those old bars where everyone had an amazing time together. Where you can easily spend a whole night with your friends. Michael conceived the design project for every floor of the hotel, taking special attention to details, using an approach stimulated by a clever fusion of historical time influences and contemporary artistic values from today. The space an authentic dialogue between those two realities, as he spread a truly poetic message, captivating the charm of the original building and he also protected its heritage by leaving some of the original walls.
