A new kind of shopping experience
T
o find the latest trends in menswear in Kitchener-Waterloo, all you need to do is visit Trends For Men in the Sunrise Shopping Centre. Here you will find a store that delivers on its namesake, but also so much more than that. “We’re here to make guys look and feel good about themselves. That’s our main objective,” says storeowner Moe Visram. “We’re not necessarily focused on brand names, we’re focused on quality products at fair prices.” Trends For Men has been in business for over 10 years. Before that, Visram worked for his dad’s menswear store that had been a Kitchener staple for over 30 years, giving him a lifetime of experience in providing men with their wardrobe needs. Although they’re not the
only independent shop in town, the customer experience makes Trends For Men stand out. “Guys that shop here feel comfortable. They don’t feel intimidated or pressured to purchase. They are able to talk to us like we’re friends of theirs,” Visram says. “That’s the biggest thing that sets us apart. The atmosphere we provide is about comfort and friendliness as opposed to a pushy, sales-oriented atmosphere. We’re not always out to make a sale, we’re out to build a relationship.” Trends For Men carries a wide range of products for men, along with a variety of brand names such as Strellson, Coppley, and Alberto. Visram says the price points vary but the value and quality remain the same — high. “We’re not cheap by any means but we’re not the most expensive store. What
we offer is good value for your dollar,” Visram says. “Some of the stuff is expensive but it’s expensive because it’s something we believe in and something that the customer will be happy with. But we do have less expensive items that we believe have good value for the customer.” This year, Trends For Men is excited to be entering into new territory by launching an online magazine and revamping their website, all for the benefit of its customers. “It’s good to offer people an insight as to what’s upand-coming for the season, as well as fashion inspiration and advice. So launching a new website and magazine helps us offer that to our customers. It’s a way for customers to stay informed about what we have in store, what changes we’ve made, and the direction
of fashion. We’ll also have more helpful articles, such as items we can provide to businessmen who travel a lot, how to accessorize, or taking your outfit from daytime to nighttime. So that’s just an additional service we want to provide to our customers,” Visram says. The free magazine will be published twice a year for the Spring/Summer season and the Fall/Winter season. Ultimately, Visram just wants more people to be able to have the shopping experience that Trends For Men provides. “The customers we help, we enjoy helping them. We have fun with them, we laugh, we chat, we show them what we have, and whether they buy one pair of socks or three suits, it’s fun for us and it’s fun for them. That’s the experience we want to offer to all our customers. 5

TIPS FOR THE
TRAVELLING BUSINESSMAN Whether it’s traffic delays, airport security, bad weather, or jet lag, travelling can be a stressful and exhausting experience. Here are some travel tips to make your fashion work for you when you’re on the road:
1) Always carry one day’s outfit in your carry-on. Travelling can be unpredictable and the last thing you want to do is worry about buying a suit for your business meeting the next day if your bag doesn’t arrive with you. 2) Make your time on the road easier by packing wrinkle-resistant outfits. We recommend Alberto pants and Serica shirts to make getting out of the hotel in the morning a simple task. They’re great for at home as well! 3) Nothing is worse that having your credit card stolen. With the Würkin Stiffs RFID wallet you can be comfortable knowing that no one can copy your credit card just by being near you. 4) When travelling, you can’t always predict what weather you may have and you don’t always want to pack multiple pairs of shoes. Protect your shoes and get to your meeting dry by packing a pair of SWIMS shoe protectors, which are light and can easily fit in your luggage. 5) Strellson has a travel suit with some smart additions. It comes with zippers on some of the pockets so you can worry less about pickpockets on the streets and sleep easier on your flight. It is also wrinkle resistant so you can look as crisp getting off the plane as you did when you got on.

Walk down the aisle
in style Making the big choices for your big day can be a lot of pressure. Your partner has his or her own wardrobe to think about so instead of having them worry about your wardrobe, consult with an expert on what’s right for you. Trends for Men has the following advice for grooms when making their wedding day wardrobe choices:
Custom vs. Off the rack If you’re ever going to get a suit custom made, your wedding is the occasion to do it. Custom suits are an experience — you can pick your own lining, buttons, and other details. It’s a great option if you want to take some chances. However, if you’re going for a plain black suit, off-the-rack may be a more cost-effective choice. The only problem with off-the-rack is that it doesn’t always work for those with unique body types. But if you’re a standard build, you can find what you need in store.
Purchase vs. Rent This is one of the most important days of your life and you’re going to wear a used suit? No. Brides spend a lot of money on their dresses, you should spend a little on yourself. At Trends for Men we can find you a suit at the same price point as renting — and this suit you can keep!
Suit vs. Tux Both are great choices! Getting married in a tuxedo is the most classic thing you can do. It’s formal, it’s elegant, it’s rich. But a suit is something you can wear again — it’s more practical. Make the best choice for you. 11
