UNL STUDENT HEALTH CENTER Lincoln, Nebraska The University of Nebraska Student Health Center project aims to address student needs far beyond treating illness. The facility offers a healthy lifestyle recommendation embedded in the essence of the project. The soft material pallet of channel glass and neutral colors allow the architecture to command where and when a powerful message infused with color can be delivered to its audience. In this way, the new University Health Center will be like a gallery with healthy lifestyle suggestions as its featured work. With preventative health being the primary focus
of the facility, additional program is added to transform the health center into a student performance complex. Program like a practice soccer field, a healthy food cafĂŠ, and a bike shop transform the health center into much more than a place to go when one is ill. The facility will become a destination for the healthy.

FOOSBALL TABLE Through exploration of gamming history and an iterative process, the featured foosball table utilizes previous versions of the table to enhance the game of table soccer. While many tables are designed to be exciting for the player, watching the game seems to be difficult for others. This prototype is not only designed for the player, but also for the viewer. Each design decision takes into account how players and spectators encounter the sport.

LAUSANNE REHABILITATION CENTER Lausanne, Switzerland The Genetic Research and Addiction Rehabilitation Center is a specialized medical facility that deals with drug addiction through a methodology that looks at human behavior and the genetic makeup of the addicted. With Switzerland’s challenging reputation of substance abuse and the government’s progressive approach to the issue, Lausanne, Switzerland is an ideal location for the proposed program. The rhythmic exoskeletal structure and subtle approach to the landscape portray Switzerland’s cultural focus. The facility
is an exemplary model of a translational work environment between addiction specialists and geneticists. The translation line occupies the core of the second level. This space is not only a main corridor leading to core program, but it is also a space that allows for interaction between professions through programming such as coffee vendors, food vendors, and lounge space.

WELLS-LAMSON MEMORIAL Barre, Vermont The architectural proposal illustrated is located in the southeast region of the WellsLamson granite quarry. Embedded in the superstructure are artist residences, studio work spaces, and an educational pavilion. Suspended in the center of the structure is a memorial capable of moving vertically and horizontally within the drained granite quarry. The memorial is operated by eight wenches—four affixed to the structure and four anchored to the quarry floor. Having eight attachment points gives the memorial a wide range of motion.
The platform’s dive begins at level one. As the platform descends below the structure, an expansive view emerges for a brief moment. Next, the history of the quarry is expressed through the various layers of granite. The memorial allows the user to perceive the Wells-Lamson quarry as the workers once did.

ELECTRONIC TAXI COMPLEX New York, New York To understand a hybridized urban infrastructure (HUI), one must understand what infrastructure is and how it operates. Infrastructure’s main role is to serve the public by supplying an array of needs ranging from elements that sustain life to elements that make life convenient to sustain. Infrastructure’s purpose outweighs its own visual appeal and is accepted by the public because of this characteristic. When Infrastructure becomes hybridized, a higher level of efficiency develops. The structure prolongs its ability to exist based on the numerous needs it supplies.
The location of this project is on and near the central park reservoir. The proposal repurposes solar energy for the city’s taxi transportation network. The reservoir serves as a centralized hub for housing and recharging electronic taxis. The area of the reservoir that accumulates the most direct sun hosts photovoltaic panels, which harvest enough energy to sustain a quarter of Manhattan’s public taxi network. To power Manhattan’s yellow fleet, the electronic taxi complex has the ability to host 80,000 photovoltaic panels, each capable of individually harvesting 200 Watts per hour.
Capable of driving up to 100 miles on a full charge. The typical taxi in NYC will drive 140 miles in a 24 hour shift.

NEBRASKA CITY MEDICAL CENTER Nebraska City, Nebraska Nebraska City Medical Center draws upon the various levels and natural aspects of the tree for its own spatial arrangement. It is the designer’s intent to refocus this abstraction into the new hospital in both plan and section. In section, the lower levels are used for storage and mechanical services, much like a tree would operate. As one moves up the facility, public circulation becomes prevalent. At the top of the facility, privacy is
optimal and selective like a tree canopy. In plan, the building can be viewed in two parts. Where these components intersect, there is a large circulation atrium. In one component, program services the staff, and in the other component, the patients receive care.
