9+1 Sweet Stache

9+1 Upon moving to Boise, Trey McIntyre approached 12 Boise artists about collaborating with the 9 dancers of TMP + TM. Trey McIntyre asked the Boise artists to interpret the company in the artists’ chosen medium. They were given no further restrictions. Each of the Boise artists will generously share 50% or more of the purchase price with Trey McIntyre Project.

Michael Bowers I was born and raised in Emmett, Idaho, a small agricultural community just north of Boise. I received a Bachelors degree in Music Theory and Composition from Albertson College (now College of Idaho) focusing on Twentieth Century Modernism and have lived in Boise for three years. My love of cocktails made me want to be a bartender. When the Modern Hotel and Bar opened, I asked for a job. I had no previous bartending experience, but I did have a serious interest in cocktails. They hired me and I have been on a full time mixological conquest since. A series of cocktails created by Modern Hotel bartender, Michael Bowers as portraits of each artist in the company. You will receive a punchcard that you bring to the Modern Hotel and each month two new drinks will be featured for you to try.

The Chocolat Bar The Chocolat Bar opened its doors in January 2004. The owners Chris Preston and Kristi EcholsPreston put their love for cooking and high quality local ingredients into the mission of their chocolate shop. Everything is handmade in their elegant shop located in downtown Boise. The Preston’s moved to Boise from New Mexico to open the shop. Kristi and Chris had been coming to Idaho for years to fly fish and vacation, and they fell in love with Boise. In 2003 Kristi had lost her job as a conservation biologist with The Nature Conservancy due to downsizing, and decided to apprenticed with a chocolate shop in Santa Fe and worked on their product development. She also trained at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. Chris left a 30 year career in finance to open the chocolate store with Kristi. Our culinary mission can best be described as bringing the true experience of chocolate to its grateful customers. Chocolate makes people happy, and when you have a high quality chocolate, you enjoy the experience even more. We have our own blend that is unique to our shop. We use only the highest quality organic or local ingredients and 100 percent chocolate with high cocoa content. Some of our more popular flavors are Lemon and Lavender with almonds in white chocolate and red and green chili pistachio bark. We have over 40 different flavors of chocolate as well as many different types of truffles such as Aztec which has red chili and cinnamon in a rich dark chocolate ganache. Come in and taste the difference!

Molly Hill My academic and professional art career began in my 40s - considered late in this day and age of young whippersnapper art stars. I received a BFA from Boise State University in 1997 and was then accepted into the University of Washington’s MFA program in 1998. That same year, my mother became ill and I returned to Boise to care for her. I ended up staying in Boise, continued to develop my work and began showing in local juried exhibits. I was invited to join the Stewart Gallery, Boise and then the Grover/ Thurston Gallery in Seattle, Washington. In 2003, I joined the J Crist Gallery in Boise and continued to show there until their closing in March, 2009. I currently show at Grover/ Thurston and Sue Greenwood Fine Art, Laguna Beach, California. The Boise Art Museum recently acquired a work for its permanent collection. The Chinese motif often expressed in my work is the outcome of a long time interest in Chinese culture and history and in October, 2007 I realized a dream to visit and tour a number of historical sites throughout China. Most memorable were the Great Wall and the Terra Cotta Warriors. I received a grant from the Idaho Commission on the Arts in conjunction with my visit to mount a one person exhibit titled “China Daydream” at J Crist Gallery in December, 2007. 18

Hillfolk Noir Travis Ward formed the band in the late 90’s playing shows and selling low budge recordings under the name Travis Ward and Junkyard Bandstand. Soon a full time band was formed that toured the NW several times and sold a couple thousand self produced albums. After the Junkyard Bandstand rhythm section moved from Boise, ID to Oregon in search of cheaper groceries, Travis formed a new group. Hillfolk Noir still plays the old songs, but has a much more reckless sound and more new material than they know what to do with. They’ve played shows with James McMurtry, Built to Spill, Bonnie Prince Billy, Gerald Collier, Heroes and Villains, Train, Jesse Dayton, the Dusty 45’s, Neva Denova, Neko Case, and tons of other great acts that you may or may not have heard of. Songs songs bongs blah blah blah .... Do you like us yet?

Amy Westover Amy was born in Boise Idaho and has lived and created art there for the better part of 33 years. She received her BFA in Sculpture and Printmaking from Boise State University in 2000. Shortly thereafter she was awarded a Jurors Award of Excellence for her “urban sprawl” installation at the Boise Art Museum’s 2001 Idaho Triennial. The work included hundreds of hanging carrots that had to be replaced every two weeks. In 2002 she received her first big public art commission. The aluminum, steel and neon sculpture titled Grove Street Illuminated is an icon for downtown Boise and launched Amy into a career as a public artist. Most recently she has completed four significant works for Boise City and the Public Works Department at an environmental learning center called the “Watershed.” The LEED certified building and it’s location at the waste water treatment plant have brought Amy’s interests in sustainable living into her realm of art making. In addition to her large scale public sculptures Amy has a home studio where she creates works on paper and fires fused glass.
