PORT MOODY’S FAVOURITES
Big changes could be coming to Port Moody’s downtown! Developers are eyeing the area for major projects, with proposals for high-rises up to 40 storeys around key transit spots like Moody Centre SkyTrain Station. As the city grows, there’s also talk of tightening the rules on short-term rentals, with hefty fines of up to $3,000 a day for those who don’t follow the new licensing bylaws.
But it’s not all about development—Port Moody is also focused on beautifying local streets. Plans are in the works to add boulevard gardens and calming measures to intersections like Guildford Way and Ioco Road, making it easier (and safer) to get around. A $2-million project will overhaul some busy areas, including changes to turn lanes and improving traffic flow.
There’s so much to love about Port Moody’s arts and culture scene. The Emmy-winning series Shogun, filmed at the old Flavelle cedar mill, put the city on the map for its stunning production design and performances. Meanwhile, the POMO Players Theatre has found new life under the guidance of its founder Mike Arseneault. The group is set to bring the classic Miracle on 34th Street to the stage this holiday season—definitely one to watch!
On the political front, Rick Glumac secured another win as MLA for the expanded Port Moody-Burquitlam riding in the 2024 provincial election, representing the BC NDP. And a special shout-out to locals Farhad “Fred” Soofi and Trina Prince, who were both honored with King Charles III Coronation Medals for their incredible contributions to the community.

What is your title and what does your business do?
My name is Tae, the owner of Aeris Physiotherapy, Health and Wellness. Aeris Physiotherapy, Health and Wellness is a multidisciplinary clinic, and our mission is to deliver exceptional physiotherapy, massage therapy, and kinesiology services. We do this through an evidence-informed approach while taking an individualistic perspective on each client’s needs. By tailoring our treatments to each person, we ensure personalized care that supports recovery, pain management, and overall wellness. Winning the award for ‘Overall Best Service’ is a testament to our team’s dedication to client care and our continuous efforts to provide the highest standards of service. We’re proud to be recognized for our commitment to guiding clients toward lasting health and helping them achieve their optimal physical well-being.
What Tri-City arts events and festivals do you attend?
I’ve attended the Car Free Day, and it was an incredible experience. I really enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere, with so many local businesses and vendors creating a lively community space. It was amazing to see people come together to celebrate sustainability, creativity, and the arts in such a fun, engaging way. Events like this are a great reminder of how important it is to support local culture and make time to connect with the community. As a clinic, we will definitely apply to be a vendor next year!
What non-profit groups do you support?
We are committed to supporting and giving back to our community, just as it has supported us. As a multidisciplinary health care clinic, we aim to utilize our skills and strengths to benefit our community. Recently, we volunteered at a tournament organized by the PoCoMo Pickleball Club, a non-profit society. We are also engaging in discussions with various local sports and physical activity organizations to explore additional ways we can contribute to our community.
What is your favourite thing to do in your City?
One of my favorite things to do in the city is going for a run along the water at Rocky Point. Afterward, I love stopping by Pajo’s for some delicious fish and chips, followed by a scoop of ube honeycomb ice cream from Rocky Point Creamery. My kids love the splash park as well in the summer time!
Where is your favourite place to grab a bite if you’re dining out?
The Hard Bean Brunch Co. is an excellent place to dine! It’s perfect for catching up with a friend, enjoying a meal with two young children, or holding a casual business meeting. The service is attentive, and the food is delicious!

We are so privilege that Car Free day was back this year as we are one of the participant. It was very exciting to be part of the event as a new Owner it was so different for me to be out there to set up everything outside.
What non-profit groups do you support?
It is too many to mention but on of them are the Soroptimist International of the tri cities & Port Moody Soccer .
What is your favourite thing to do in your City?
Port Moody has always something to do for everyone it depends on what time of the year but, one of the things that we like to do with my Family is to go to Rocky point either walk in the morning , seat in the bench while having coffee before going to work, or in my days off We love do grab ice cream in Rocky point with my kids.
Where is your favourite place to grab a bite if you’re dining out?
There are so many places in the area that are good but one of my favorite is the Original’s Cafe Mexicano its very authentic.

From festivals like Caribbean Days, the BC Dumpling Festival, and the BC Highland Games to the vibrant Latin Fiesta at Lafarge Lake, Coquitlam knows how to bring people together.
On the civic side, local trailblazer Trish Mandewo now leads the Union of BC Municipalities, influencing key policies across the province. And politically, the city just sent two new MLAs to Victoria after the 2024 election: Jennifer Blatherwick and Jodie Wickens, both representing the BC NDP.

What is your title and what does your business do?
Susie, Patrick, Nicole, Meagan and Katie Doiron. We are a family run small business. We are a flower and gift shop. The majority of our gifts are made by local artisans as well as we make hand tied bouquets for all occasions from weddings to funerals to everyday bouquets.
What Tri-City arts events and festivals do you attend?
We have attended the Hollydaze event hosted by the Austin Heights BIA.
What non-profit groups do you support?
Non profit groups that we have supported are the YWCA Como Lake Garden Mother’s Day Tea as well as ACT II, which are neighbors of ours.
What is your favourite thing to do in your City?
One of our favorite things to do in the city is to visit the local farmers market or the small businesses around Coquitlam. We get to meet alot of local artisans at the farmers market.
Where is your favourite place to grab a bite if you’re dining out?
One of our favorite places to dine is J’s Wok, which is just a few doors down from our shop. The food is delicious and it is run by the sweetest couple.

What is your title and what does your business do?
I am a Chiropractor, and my business is healing! I work with our body’s natural ability to heal itself. My practice is centred on restoring the balance of the nervous system. When the nervous system is negatively impacted by accidents, posture and injuries, all sorts of pain can be produced. I also listen to what is going on in people’s lives, because emotional and mental stresses also impact the nervous system. Looking at the whole picture lets me consider many important factors in treatment design.
What Tri-City arts events and festivals do you attend?
I like attending different cultural events at Lafarge Lake. I also love watching the fireworks at Canada day and walking through the bright lights around the lake during the winter season.
What non-profit groups do you support?
We support the Agape Street Ministry. We have our annual Candy Buyback program, held the day after Halloween. During this event, we buy candy back from children for $1 per pound. The candy is then donated to the Agape Street Ministry who then use it to reach out to women on the downtown east side of Vancouver who need help with addiction and mental health.
What is your favourite thing to do in your City?
One of my favorite things to do in the city is visit Sasamat Lake or White Pine Beach. Swimming and walking the trails is restorative and fun.
I spend a lot of time in the clinic working on the rooftop garden. I grow different kinds of roses, have fruit trees (apples, pears, plums), and this year I grew about 10 varieties of tomatoes. It’s great energy to have moving through the clinic, and feeds the community here as we share the food and cycles of seasons. Good food is such an important component of health, and sharing relationship with people and the land (well, roof).
Where is your favourite place to grab a bite if you’re dining out?
My favorite place to grab a bite is Body Energy Club. I usually get a smoothie, and I love the blueberry acai bowl. My favourite spot for ice cream is at Vashti Rose in Port Moody. They use the best ingredients, have the most original flavours, have a lot of vegan options (that you’d never guess were vegan), and they’re a family business. It’s great hanging outside in line talking to people, and then getting the best ice cream in town.

I love going for a walk with the family around Lafarge Lake and then going for either ice cream or hot chocolate depending on the season.

PORT COQUITLAM’S FAVOURITES
Outdoor life in Port Coquitlam just keeps getting better every year! With the construction of B.C.’s new soccer hub at Gates Park, complete with FIFA-regulated turf fields, and the addition of whimsical wooden sculptures in Lions Park, there’s always something fun to look forward to when the sun is shining over the community.
The city’s also committed to making life as convenient as possible for residents, including keeping property tax increases to a minimum. It’s all part of ensuring PoCo remains a great place to call home.
But not everything’s been smooth sailing. After Hazel Trembath Elementary was destroyed by fire in October 2023, parents and families are anxiously waiting for approval to rebuild. PoCo Mayor Brad West called the loss “devastating,” and the city council has waived municipal fees to support the rebuilding efforts.
Still, the community spirit shines bright. Thousands of residents came together for the annual Terry Fox Hometown Run, raising over $60,000 for cancer research in honor of the local hero and Canadian icon. And speaking of icons, Ryan Reynolds designed this year’s commemorative shirt, carrying the message, “No Matter What.”
In sports news, the Port Coquitlam Saints junior lacrosse team made a big comeback in 2024, reaching the Minto Cup national championship, which was hosted by their crosstown rivals, the Coquitlam Adanacs.
On the political side, Mike Farnworth was re-elected as MLA for Port Coquitlam, marking his 30th year in office and fourth consecutive term. Representing the BC NDP, Farnworth continues to be a key figure following the 2024 provincial election.

What is your title and what does your business do?
My name is Scott Salling. I am the founder of F.I.T. Academy and our service specializes in 1 on 1 Personal training and fitness coaching as well as nutrition consulting. We love to lead our clients toward a healthy and active lifestyle while providing a service of accountability, positivity and motivation.
What Tri-City arts events and festivals do you attend?
The Annual Terry Fox run is my absolute favourite event of the year. Other notable events I love is the May Day parade, Canada Day celebration at Castle Park, and the Poco car show to name a few.
What non-profit groups do you support?
What is your favourite thing to do in your City?
I love to go have a fun/competitive round of 5 pin bowling at the Poco bowling alley. I also love to have a hot tub at Hyde Creek Rec Center after a long run on a Friday. Along with F.I.T. Academy, like to support other local gyms by having a workout at either West Coast Iron or Golds. The Coquitlam Crunch is also one of my favourite places to have a challenging outdoor workout in the summer months. Where is your favourite place to grab a bite if you’re dining out?
It’s hard to beat a great sushi night. I love Kai Japanese Restaurant in Fremont Village.

What is your title and what does your business do?
I am the Director of Operations at Patina Brewing Co. Brewhouse & BBQ. We offer mouthwatering Southern Style BBQ and delicious craft beer.
What Tri-City arts events and festivals do you attend?
Name a food and or beverage festival and you will most likely see Patina there! The City of Port Coquitlams events like Car-Free Day, Christmas in the Square and many others!
What non-profit groups do you support?
Patina is very involved in our community. We support schools, local kids sports, The POCO SAINTS, The POCO PIRATES, SHARE Family & Community Services, Kwikwetlem First Nation and many many more!
What is your favourite thing to do in your City?
My favourite things to do are watch a local lacrosse match, especially my son’s team, take a walk on the trails, attend the events across the tri-cities and of course listen to live music or play Trivia at Patina Brewing!
Where is your favourite place to grab a bite if you’re dining out?
If I am not eating at my favourite place, Patina Brewing, I like to try out all of our amazing diverse restaurants!
