Get Involved & Get Active! Summer is a season of celebration, and we’re continuing that spirit into the fall with the Coquitlam 2016 55+ BC Games! From September 20 – 24, approximately 4,000 athletes, their families, coaches, 1,500 volunteers, and fans will converge upon Coquitlam for one of the largest community celebrations sport has seen in many years. Come celebrate with us and cheer on the athletes! This annual British Columbia event showcases the outstanding athleticism of BC competitors 55+ and promotes the benefits of leading an active, healthy lifestyle.

If sport is your passion, consider volunteering. Coquitlam 2016 55+ BC Games is now recruiting enthusiastic and energetic volunteers to welcome and assist delegates and their families, visitors, and amateur sports enthusiasts. From sport to food, medical to registration, photography, communications, traffic control and more. There is a volunteer role for every skill set, interest, and ability. Visit coquitlam.ca/55PlusBCGames for details on how to volunteer and watch the games. Coquitlam has many opportunities for adults 50 plus outside of the upcoming games. Our 50 plus centres, Dogwood Pavilion and Glen Pine Pavilion, are great places to connect with your community. They have programming year round to keep you fit, learning something new, and celebrating with your friends. There are fitness programs geared towards adults, groups and clubs you can join to meet folks with similar interests, and bus trips to take you to new places. Visit coquitlam.ca/dogwood and coquitlam.ca/glenpine to find out more about our 50 plus centres and programming.

68 Coquitlam Parks, Recreation & Culture Program Guide Fall 2016

While your child’s math grade may give you some indication of their performance in math, letter grades may not reflect the whole situation. Even students with As and Bs may have gaps in their math foundations stemming back to concepts they didn’t fully grasp in earlier grades! If your child can do the questions at and above their grade level, they may be eager for a more challenging experience in math. However, if they are unable to answer questions at grade level or below, they’re likely in need of extra help to fill in foundational gaps and gain allaround mathematical knowledge. At Mathnasium, we believe that virtually every child can succeed in math—it’s a matter of teaching in the way that makes sense to them. For more than a decade, the Mathnasium Method has transformed the way children understand and appreciate math—whether they’re ahead of the curve, performing at grade level, or falling behind.
