CELEBRATE OUR JOURNEY CHAIR’S MESSAGE As Chair of the Port Coquitlam May Day Organizing Committee, I have the honour and privilege of sharing my excitement and pride in our weeklong festival. This celebration began in 1923, and for ninety four years we continue to celebrate this event. This year we have chosen the theme, “Celebrate Our Journey” in keeping with Port Coquitlam’s celebration of Canada’s 150th. We begin with our Opening Ceremony on Friday, May 5 and the Festival will continue until Sunday, May 14. The Opening Ceremony features the traditional May Pole dancing and the official introduction of the 2017 Port Coquitlam Royal Party. Over 180 local school children will be participating in the traditional May Pole dance and modern dances. The weekend festivities will continue with the Art Focus Show at The Outlet in Leigh Square on Friday, May 5th – Sunday, May 7th where Artists will display a wide range of original art. Meet the artists at the May Day Art Explosion Exhibit Opening on Saturday, May 13th from 12:30 until 2:30pm in the Michael Wright Art Gallery at the Gathering Place in Leigh Square. On Friday, May 12th there is a guided Heritage walk at 6:00pm, followed with a concert by Choral Connections at 7:00pm. On Saturday, May 13th there is the May Day Block Party following the Rotary Parade.
