Preschool Child Recreation Program September 2018-June 2019
REGISTRATION STARTS Monday, February 19, 2018 at 7am This play-orientated, learning program for three-and-four year olds promotes learning in a friendly, positive and fun-filled atmosphere, and is geared towards preparing your child for kindergarten. It provides a good balance of structure and free-play time as well as themed activities and outings to various places in our community. Child must be three or four years old prior to December 31, 2018 – NO EXCEPTIONS. Program locations:

General Baby Sign Language For ages newborn to 24 months. Babies understand and can communicate long before they are able to speak. Research shows that babies who learn sign language learn quicker and talk earlier. Using songs and games, learn how to teach your baby basic American Sign language (ASL) so they can better convey their wants and needs and relieve unnecessary frustration. Designed as a sports conditioning class for those who want to see an increase in their fitness level. May include step, ball, weights and band intervals. Pre-crawling babies are welcome.
Multi-Level Yoga

Working from beginner movements to more advanced poses with particular attention to breathing. This class will improve circulation, flexibility and tone muscles.
Teen Fitness Teen Weight Room Orientation - ages 13-15 only Free with admission - this orientation is required before teens 13-15 years can use the weight room. Prior to the orientation, we will set-up a family recreation account and parents will be required to complete and sign the orientation paperwork. Once the orientation is completed a Teen Weight Room card will be issued by weight room staff. Teen Time Hours - teens between the ages of 13-15 years can come and learn how to weight train and use the cardio equipment daily between 3-5:30pm. On weekends, professional days and school holidays the teen times will be 11am-1pm and 3pm-5:30pm. Teens: Walking Track - teen time hours and rules apply to walking track for ages 13-15 years without adult supervision. Other Available Times - youth 13-15 years are welcome at all other times, but must be accompanied and participate with an adult 19+ years. Teens 16 years and older are welcome anytime.

Exercise Rehabilitation Do you have physical limitations or a recurring injury that prevents you from performing your best or exercising? Was the transition from physical rehabilitation to your daily routine not as smooth as you expected? A registered Kinesiologist will prescribe an exercise program based on your abilities determined by an assessment, recommendations from medical professionals and your personal goals. Kinesiologists also provide exercise programs appropriate for rehabilitation before and after surgery as well as many chronic illnesses such as osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes, stroke rehabilitation or cardiac rehabilitation. Private Restorative Yoga Led by Connie Meisner Certified Therapeutic Restorative Yoga Instructor. A gentle therapeutic style of yoga that uses props such as blankets, bolsters and blocks to minimize the amount of work that the muscles are doing in the pose. Once placed in these supported passive postures you will experience the body and mind being grounded, safe and integrated. The poses are held for several minutes and often consist of only 3-5 poses for the private session (60 minutes). Instructor Profile Jennifer Jennifer has been teaching fitness for over 25 years. She has never seen it as work even though it is a second career for her. By day, she is a successful elementary school teacher and student services team leader. She is passionate about teaching people and fitness. Jennifer is not only an accomplished spin instructor, but she also teachers all levels of step, hi lo, abs, muscle sculpt and anything in between. She believes everyone has a right to “fit in” at workout facilities and is entitled to a suitable, yet challenging workout. In her spare time she loves to run for “extra fitness”. Among the many half and full marathons she has completed, her most proud moment was running the “Boston Marathon” in 2009 with her husband. She has two great kids who happily bike or run beside her!

Many of the drop-in programs at Kyle Centre are led by volunteers. These dedicated volunteers lead and organize a variety of activities such as Tai Chi, Ballroom Dance, Table Tennis, Bingo and Bridge. Our volunteers enable us to offer a variety of programs and activities to the community for low or no cost.
Ballroom Dance Drop-in - each week a variety of sessions are offered and led by a group of volunteers. Drop-In Adult Hockey 18+ Recreational drop-in hockey. Full hockey equipment required including a CSA approved helmet with visor/face cage.

Adult Stick & Puck 18+ Practice the fundamentals of hockey and improve your skills in a non-structured and non-competitive atmosphere. Bring your stick, puck, gloves and CSA approved helmet. Adult Skate 18+ Enjoy lap skating as a great addition to your fitness program. Parent & Tot Play Skate Skating toys are available for play and a designated area for fun recreational hockey is available. Rentals for this drop-in session are free. Strollers are welcome – children in strollers must be a minimum of 12 months old and must wear a helmet. Family Ring, Stick & Puck For parents and children 10 years and under. Skating School Age Programs (For ages 5-12 years)
Skate Lesson Descriptions Preschool Programs (For ages 3-5 years) Parent & Tot For ages 2-4 years. An introduction to the ice surface for children who have had no previous experience in a pair of skates. Instructors will assist the parent and show them how to support their child to encourage a sense of comfort while on the ice. Toys and props will be available for parents and tots to play with. This is not a skill based lesson program. Parents MUST be able to skate comfortably to support child.
Polar Bears This program is perfect for first time skaters and a great way for your child to get comfortable on the ice. Our instructors will use toys and games to teach basic skating skills. Polar Bears is a prerequisite to our School Age Level 1 program. School Age Level 1 Skills: Skate width of ice without falling, 2-foot glides in a straight line and on a curve, introduction to snowplow stops, V-push/ glide, backward skating, 1-foot glides and T-position of skates. Prerequisite: Polar Bears or some previous skating experience. School Age Level 2 Skills: V-push/glide alternating feet, 2-foot glides in half sit position, skate width of ice using a push/glide sequence, snowplow stops, 1-foot glides, introduction to forward double sculling, backward skating, backward sculling and T-pushes.
Snowbunnies For ages 3-5 years. This program is perfect for the first time skater and is a great way for your child to get comfortable on the ice! Our instructors will use toys and games to teach your preschooler some basic skating skills. This class is a prerequisite to our Preschool Level 1 class.
