Welcome to Edwards County!

Edwards County was named after Ninian Edwards, the governor of the Illinois Territory, and, later the governor of Illinois. The county was formed in 1814, and at the time comprised nearly half of the state of Illinois. New counties were formed from it until 1824, when it assumed its present form from the creation of Wabash County. This made Edwards the smallest county in the state. Although it is the smallest, Edwards County is big on hospitality, as it offers the kinds of amenities that inspire its residents and visitors to experience and remember the joys of southern Illinois living. It’s county seat, Albion, boasts being the “Chowder capitol of the world.”
