2 GIBSON COUNTY FAIR
Daily Clarion Friday, July 5, 2019
164th annual Gibson County Fair opens n behalf of the Gibson County Fair Board, I would like to invite you, your family, and your friends to the 164th Gibson County Fair. Each succeeding year, our fair board, associate fair board, friends of the fair, and volunteers strive to improve upon the ideals and traditions that we believe makes the Gibson County Fair one of the greatest in the state. You will notice continued improvements to the grounds, including the renovation of the restrooms directly behind the grandstand. Our events this year include truck and tractor pulls, demolition derby, motocross, and dirt drags. We are ver y pleased to announce that we will once again be hosting the IPRA
O
Sanctioned Rodeo which was a big hit last year. We have listened to our community who requested they would like something different as far as concert is concerned. We are excited to announce that ‘Resurrection – A Journey Tribute’ which is an internationally recognized, Nashville, TN, based Journey tribute band will be performing at this year’s fair. Come enjoy the open class exhibits, including a large quilt display in the Toyota
Events Center. Explore the three merchants’ buildings and talk with local vendors and community leaders. Have a seat at one of our open air concession stands after you patronize any of our local non-profit groups to enjoy some wonderful food they have prepared. Need a break from all the rides and games Brady Amusements has to offer, sit down and enjoy a wood car ving show by Bear Hollow Wood Car vers or a Magic show at the top of the midway. Hop on a shuttle bus provided by the Antique Farm Machiner y Club to head to the other side of the grounds to see the antique tractors and Ag Displays. Stop and take a walk in the Livestock Pavilion and the 4-H Exhibit Building to see all the time and hard work
that the county 4-H kids have put into their projects. Our goal is to make sure there is something for ever yone at the Gibson County Fair. In closing I would like to thank ever yone that has helped make continued improvements to the fairgrounds over the years possible. I would also like to especially thank all of our sponsors that donate time, money, and equipment to the fair. We could not have such a quality family friendly event without your support. I look for ward to seeing you and your family at this year’s fair. “Come for the Fun at the Gibson County Fair”

Bill Hunt Fair Board President
Fair board president hoping for clear skies BY SARAH LOESCH DAILY CLARION STAFF WRITER
PRINCETON — The Gibson County Fair lasts for one week, but the planning for those seven days is a year-long endeavor. Fair board president Bill Hunt said board members travel to fairs before and after Gibson County’s, they attend a fairs and festivals convention in Indianapolis at the start of the year, and booking a main concert starts in October or November. For Hunt, this is his first year as board president and he said it’s been
enjoyable, but tough. Hunt said he still does a lot of work with the grounds and now president duties are added to those as well. He said “thank goodness” for former president Charlie Woodruff or else he doesn’t believe ever ything would get done. This year the near-continuous rain, coupled with fully booked weekends, has impacted the ability for volunteers to get in and get stuff done. Hunt said it makes all of the work worth it when the fair goes well, but it’s also a lot more than fair now.
“It’s been tough, especially this year with the weather and bookings, to get in here and get things done,” Hunt said. “But that’s a good problem to have. I’d rather have that than not have any bookings.” Hunt said it’s just like ever y year where they hope for a dr y week and the ability to get everything in for fair. But the good weather needs to come before fair week as well. “The main thing is we get some good weather and that usually helps,” he said. Hunt said there’s always smaller
maintenance that needs to be done as fair gets closer like painting, smoothing out the grounds and laying more rock on the road. “It’s just your general care of the place,” he said. “You wait and tr y to do a lot of it when it gets closer to fair because then it will last for the fair.” When fair week arrives, Hunt said it’s all very rewarding. “Kiddie day, you see the kids and they’re smiling, or of an evening you’ll see a family and you can tell they’re having a good time,” he said. “It makes it worth it.”

Rodeo returns to county fair July 9 BY SARAH LOESCH DAILY CLARION STAFF WRITER
PRINCETON — The rodeo will make another appearance at the Gibson County Fair this year. The rodeo retur ned to the fairgrounds last year after about 20 years and brought with it bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, tie-down roping, girls breakaway roping, and steer racing. “It was a big hit last year,” said Fair Board President Bill Hunt. “So we’ve got it coming back again this year.” The show will be at 7 p.m. July 9 at the Grandstands and will include bareback riding, bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, girls breakaway roping, barrel race, and team roping. It’s presented by Latting Rodeo Productions. This year’s fair will also include the return of the Bear Hollow Wood Car vers who debuted at last year’s fair. Hunt said the group will be doing four shows a day Sunday, June 7, through Tuesday, June 9. The magic show will take over
Wednesday, June 19 through Saturday, June 13. The magician will also be holding game shows at various times in the carnival midway for kids. Hunt said there will also be a slight change to the motocross entertainment. In previous years the bikes and quads have been done on separate nights, but this year both will take place Wednesday. Motocross practice will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Grandstands, heats will begin at 5:30, and the finals will be at 7 p.m. Hunt said anyone coming out to the fair will have plenty to choose from like visiting the open-class exhibits, seeing 4-H animals, taking kids to the rides, and enjoying a variety of food items. “We’ve got a guy, I think he deep fries ever ything he can find,” Hunt said. Hunt said there will also be merchants tables set up with ever yone from local business to politicians, the princess and mini-princess contest, and much for people to explore. “It’s just someplace good to come and visit with friends and family,” he said.

Journey tribute band to headline fair BY SARAH LOESCH DAILY CLARION STAFF WRITER
PRINCETON — Attendees at the Gibson County Fair this year will hear something a little bit dif ferent when they hit the grandstands for Friday night’s concert. It won’t be a countr y act on stage like it has been in previous years, but a band dedicated to recreating a 1980s Jour ney concer t. “Resur rection - A Jour ney Tribute” will perform at this year’s fair with known hits like “Any Way You Want It,” “Don’t Stop Believin,” and “Faithfully.”
Admission to the fairgrounds is $7 and there will track-side seating available for an additional $5. The passes are sold two hours before the concert and people can bring lawn chairs. Bill Hunt, Gibson County Fair Board president, said there has a been a lot of good feedback so far about the group coming. “Naturally, we usually do countr y,” Hunt said. “People have been asking for something different, so we came up with this.” The board looked at dif ferent countr y options for this year, but after not finding one they felt comfortable
with, Hunt said they decided to mix it up. “Resurrection” is made up of lead vocalist Ryan Christopher; vocalist and keyboardist Vic White; dr ummer Jim Handley; lead guitarist and vocalist SteveSheroan; and bassist and vocalist Ben King. The band first per formed live for an audience in 2014, three years after White heard Christopher sing when they per formed with a Nashvillebased 80s act in 2011. According to the band’s website, the two exchanged contact information that night, but both were active
with other bands until 2011 when they reconnected and formed “Resurrection.” Concer t-goers will not only be in for a new direction of show but a new attraction too. Hunt said this year will be the first year for a beer garden the night of the show, starting at 6 p.m. Other live acts during the week include karaoke with Vincent Entertainment on July 7, talent contest on July 10, Scott Mason & Band on July 11, “Descent” on July 12, and “Styl Countr y” July 13. All will be at 7 p.m. on the Carnaby Street Stage.
