Loco fo Coco 1616-G Battleground Ave Greensboro NC (336) 333-0029 locoforcocochocolate.com

Loco for Coco Gourmet Chocolate is a purveyor of all-American, fine chocolates established in 2007. The best-in-class truffles are the most popular, but the store features many other treats such as turtles and chocolate covered fruits and nuts. Customers especially appreciate the way the chocolates are wrapped in beautiful boxes, ribbons, and bags ready for gift-giving

Loco for Coco moved from Shops at Kirkwood after Valentine’s Day to Dover Square. Owners Spencer and Susan are delighted to be on Battleground Avenue in a shopping center that features all local retail businesses. The area is really changing and developing since the end of the recession, and it seems to be a good fit for the seven year old business.

Spencer was on the board of the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society for many years; and since becoming owners of Loco for Coco, the couple have been sponsors of the yearly festival. Susan and Spencer have decided to give significantly to a local cause each year, and this year the couple are giving to the Women’s Resource Center. Spencer served his pasta and vegetable “variation” at the Center’s annual Men Can Cook event, and every month donations are bringing chocolate happiness to Women’s Resource Center participants.

Spencer and Susan have been active with Triad Local First and the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce. Loco for Coco features goods from several local vendors such as Two Sisters Toffee, La Palette Artisan truffles, Sugar Rush fudge, and Escazu and Videri chocolate bars from Raleigh. This summer the store is serving cold brew coffee from local roaster Synchronicity and iced tea drinks from Vida Pour Tea. Since chocolate has so many health benefits, Loco for Coco is offering dark chocolate tastings for customers to discover their favorite dark chocolate bar. Bring a friend, enjoy the cool, and explore the subtleties of dark chocolate delights.

Tapped into Craft: Libations and Victuals Spencer Davis from City Beverage and Tim Beeman II from The Less Desirables collaborate to give you both a professional beer purveyor’s and a craft brew critic’s (and self-appointed beer snob) points-of-view of craft brews available in the Piedmont area. Spencer Davis explains the beer’s credentials: Small Town Brewery is located in Wauconda, Illinois. Not Your Father’s Root Beer is the fastest selling new craft beer in American this year. This beer went from being poured on draft in a few bars and restaurants, to just signing with Pabst Brewing Company in March and is set to be distributed in all 50 states by the end of the year. There are three different root beers they brew: 1.Not Your Father’s Root Beer (Year Round-5.9%), 2.Not Your Father’s Root Beer (Limited Edition-10.7%) and 3. Not Your Father’s Root Beer (Limited Edition-19.5%). The only one available in NC at this time is the lower 5.9% ABV version. If you like Root Beer then you’ll love this bold, smooth and spicy craft beer! This brew will satisfy the craft beer aficionado as well as the person that doesn’t Fri Jul 10, 2015

like beer but enjoys a good root beer. Not Your Father’s Root Beer makes a fantastic Root Beer float. From Tim Beeman: The beauty of Not Your Father’s Root Beer is the authentic root beer flavor without you being fully aware of the alcohol within. This is, of course, for the 5.9% ABV variety that is sold at City Beverage, but you’ll only need the 5.9% to make you happy. We reviewed it on The Less Desirables and I believe that Sat Jul 11, 2015 / FAMILY I rated it 4 out of 5 pints. be perceived as one, in my opinion. The bottom line is this beer is tasty, refreshing and full of flavor. New to the Triad: The Warehouse on Uwharrie’s Antique and Vintage Home Décor By Brian Watkins

New to the Triad’s burgeoning creative scene, The Warehouse on Uwharrie opened in April as a source of beautiful antique home décor. The Warehouse is right at home in High Point, home to the furniture market. The history carried in the pieces offered speaks for itself, and The Warehouse also offers consignment as part of its regular flow of inventory.

The bulk of the collection includes mid-century antique furniture, home accessories, as well as decorative pieces. There are classy, eclectic options for all sorts of home interiors. Since the inventory is constantly changing, it can be a fun pastime to stop by and see what new pieces are in stock.

Owner Katie Bennett regularly invites local artists to come and contribute, and says she has plans to offer monthly art exhibitions for regional artisans. This would be a boon to local talent to have a recognized place to showcase their designs, and the community benefits by having access to a larger pool of attractive home décor accessories.

Their website is in development, but in the mean time you can visit their Facebook page (link at the end) for news on new pieces in the inventory as well as special events as they arise at The Warehouse on Uwharrie. Businesses like this are a big step forward for the Triad because they foster creativity and give artists a forum to share and find success. For the community, finding unique expressions of personality give flair to each patron’s home. There’s something special about owning a piece you won’t find anywhere else, particularly when it suits your character better than mainstream retail items. It’s this sense of expression and ability to create profound interior moods that Katie has always endeavored to put out there. Bennett grew up in the furniture world, surrounded by both designers and manufacturers. As she grew her brother (Cont. on pg 11) Detailed event information available at www.336events.com
