Country Store, Antiques, Produce and More
Junktique Alleyway Sarah K Wilson Junktique Alleyway, located at 115 South Main street in Kernersville, is quite the hotspot one-stop shop. The garden art displayed in front of this country store and antique shop is sure to catch the eye, as they have amazing unique pieces outside to make a statement. This unique shop opened in March 2016, and owner Linda Nugent has been adding to her large assortment of inventory ever since. The concept behind the store is a combination of a classic country store, reminiscent of the past, with a fusion of antiques, collectibles, home decor, and more. The sight of delicious, juicy, farm-fresh peaches, perfectly ripe tomatoes, and Ashe County cheese stirred up quite the appetite for me as I continued to explore room to room in the neatly and thoughtfully displayed store. The produce is sourced locally when possible, and Junktique Alleyway keeps fresh Florida-grown tomatoes all winter long as well. At every turn there was something that caught my eye, like the fresh jams, old fashioned candy, and the much raved about elderberry syrup.

JUNKTIQUE ALLEYWAY
Continued from Page 5
I remember thinking “what doesn’t this store have?” and seconds later owner Linda Nugent explained to me that she stocks the store inventory with new and different items every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and has added a new layout to the store, making it efficient to find everything you need. Whether you are looking for Homestead Creamery Milk, farmfresh eggs, local fresh produce, local honey, or pickled goods, there is something for everyone in the country store. This store is so convenient for me as well, because I can browse home decor, Avon products, candles, antiques, jewelry, glassware, paintings, and even furniture while I get groceries and snacks. I also love shopping for gifts. With the items always changing, it’s fun to stop in and see what is new in the store. Junktique Alleyway is also well known for the outstandingly genuine and helpful customer service, as each person that enters the store is treated like family from the moment they step inside. You can check out everything Junktique Alleyway has to offer every Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 6pm, and each Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00 pm. Stay tuned to find out about what big plans Junktique has coming up next!

purchase something other than beer. The festival is powered by Meridian, known for their fresh farm-to-table Mediterranean inspired cuisine, high quality scratch-made food, with a relaxed low-key atmosphere, and an open kitchen you can see right into. Meridian Restaurant has also been rated as one of the top ten best restaurants in North Carolina, making it quite an attraction, with a menu that changes daily based on what local farms have readily available. The restaurant also features weekly specials like half-priced wine Wednesdays, and six dollar select martinis on Fridays, making it a super fun spot any day of the week. The festival is going to be an absolute blast, as the street is going to be shut down just for the event, so make sure to mark your calendars for this coming August 10th in WinstonSalem, as this year’s seafood festival is going to be better than ever.

DOGWOOD HOPS AND CROPS - DELIVERING MORE THAN JUST BEER You’ve had a long week at work and just want to spend the evening relaxing at home, maybe with a cold craft beer. Or perhaps you have friends and family visiting and you realize that you have nothing to offer them to drink, and you don’t want to leave your guests and run to the store to grab a bottle of wine or a six pack of beer. Typically, you would have no choice but to leave your house and drive to the nearest store but all that changed 2 years ago with the opening of Dogwood Hops and Crops. Adam Andrews and Austin Ridge are lifelong friends who couldn’t understand why beer and wine couldn’t be delivered and decided to do something about it. Austin - a fan of fine craft beers and Adam - a lover of all things bourbon, opened Dogwood Hops and Crops bottle shop to offer an outstanding selection of craft beers (bottles, cans, and tap) from around the country. You can grab a single beer or mix up a six-pack (or two!), or you can have a growler filled from one of the twelve rotating taps. Whether you’re a fan of IPAs or prefer a lighter spiked seltzer, with more than 250 beers to choose from, it’s impossible not to find a beer to satisfy your craft beer palette! Guests are welcome to enjoy their selection at the Continued on page 14

bar and if you want to grab a bite to eat, they have a selection of unique paninis available to order. Ordering beer and wine to be delivered is done easily on their website and they deliver within a 10-mile radius of downtown Winston-Salem. The atmosphere is open and airy and their staff is very knowledgeable on the beer offerings they have. They offer a variety of weekly specials, also posted on their website. Not a fan of beer or looking to appease everyone in the group? Then simply head across the entryway, where you’ll find the sister bar, Trophy Room, which features one of the most extensive menus of bourbon and whiskey that exists in Winston - including some extremely rare and antique options such as a 1967 bottle of Old Fitzgerald. Their menu of hand-crafted cocktails has a great mixture of traditional options like an Old Fashioned, Boulevardier, and Sazeracs, as well as Trophy Room-created cocktails that take the old and kick it up a notch! If you’ve never had a smoked Old Fashioned or Sazerac, this is definitely the place to give that a try. The atmosphere of the Trophy Room is cool, dark, and welcoming. Sink into the leather sofas with one of their hand-crafted cocktails and you’ll feel like you’re in your grandfather’s den or a formal, sophisticated study. The lighting is dim and golden and you’re surrounded by the bottles which are displayed in lighted encasings as well as behind the dark-wooded bar. While it’s touted as a bourbon and whiskey bar, don’t let that turn you away if you’re not a fan - they also have a large variety of other liquors that you would expect to find in a bar such as tequila, rum, gin, etc., as well as a menu of cocktails with those liquors in them! While most of the residents of Winston are used to hitting 4th Street for their outings, the new influx of creative bars and restaurants on 6th Street (like Dogwood Hops and Crops and the Trophy Room) are starting to pull and win residents over and that is very good news for downtown Winston-Salem!

Globally Inspired “Street Food” Right In LoFi Greensboro by Kristen Margo Daukas One of the best things about traveling is taking in all that the cities have to offer. Whether you’re the type who likes to plan things down to the minute or the type, like myself, who just wants to wander around and absorb all that a city or country has to offer - especially the food vendors on the streets. While everyone else may be heading to the museums and art galleries, I’m looking for the best local food that’s offered. Honestly - what better way is there to really get to know a city or country than eating the local food? But what if you could get that same kind of street food from all different areas of the world without having to leave your hometown, under one roof? That was the inspiration of the Mother/Daughter team of Rhonda and Kris Fuller to open up Crafted
EATATCRAFTED.COM The Art of Street Food (which is the sister to their wildly popular Crafted the Art of the Taco) in 2015. They wanted to create a menu that had samplings from all around the world as well as classic southern staples. When asked to describe Street Food in a few words, Kris quickly said “Affordable, fast, casual. Globally inspired with a nod to Southern roots.” And a more perfect description could not be had. Located in the LoFi (Lower Fisher) section of Greensboro, Street Food is a bit different and breaks from The Art of the Taco and gives Kris and her team the chance to create items that don’t necessarily “belong” on a tortilla. You can get your culinary passport stamped on items such as Korean Short Ribs, Ramen Noodles (the adult versions...not the ramen you knew in college!), and Ropa Vieja. If you’re more in the mood for comfort foods of home, Kris and her team offer solid standbys such as burgers, Kentucky Hot Chicken, and a good ol’ Blue Plate Special with fried chicken and Continued on page 16

Crafted: The Art of Street Food
Continued from Page 16
collards! A little known secret is that Street Food can and will cater your events and parties! Folks who have events at nextdoor neighbor, Preyer Brewing, will order their food from Street Food - partially because of convenience, but largely because of the quality and unique offerings. Popular items that are catered are taco bars, plus the sandwiches and meal options on the menu. The catering piece of Street Food’s business has increased enough over the past few years that they have a team dedicated to just that! Their menu changes quarterly and they also offer a full bar with a creative cocktail list. The decor and feel of the restaurant stays true to the Crafted roots with the large open kitchens and the “industrial meets modern” decor. Street Food is an affordable and accessible restaurant with a friendly staff that makes it a great option for families looking to grab a meal before or after a Grasshoppers game or one of the many outdoor festivals happening during the summer in downtown Greensboro!
