Letter From The Founder
The start of a new season
brims with anticipation: new trends, new muses and the possibility of a new you. At Tribe Alive, our excitement over Spring is rooted in the promise of what’s possible, what’s to come and what we as women are capable of when inspired to create. So what better way for us to welcome in SS15 than with our brand model Maegan Bruce, demonstrating that Spring’s mood is about so much more than fashion and sex appeal; it is about strength, independence, adventure, a confident attitude and the desire to make a difference. From our production to our lookbook styling, our message remains grounded in our mission to empower women through design. We hope this collection inspires you to look at fashion in a new light and recognize the power of your purchase.
We chose to set the scene for Spring in the tiny but incredibly inspiring town of Marfa, Texas. Marfa is described as ’tough to get to, tougher to explain, but once you get there … you get it. And let’s just say we got it. Marfa is a magical place. When there you’re overcome with a feeling of ‘I want to make something; I want to do something; I want to create,’ and that sentiment is precisely how we hoped to enter Spring … With a fierce desire to create something beautiful, meaningful, and something that others wish to be a part of. Like Spring, our collection has a fresh, fun, colorful and laid-back appeal. For me, it inspires travel, a sense of adventure, and a constant yearning to create something new. We hope you love our new textiles designs, colorful bracelets, whimsical rings and versatile necklaces as much as we do. But what we hope for most is that our collection will inspire you to put something beautiful on so that you can get out into the world and experience something beautiful.
Weekender Bag - Strawberry Ikat
Marfa Inspiration The open space fostered an open mind and kindled the fires of creativity deep in the soul. It is in
these marginalized places that time stops. If you could hear a sound it would only be the whisper of your heart. Everything was purely visual. Art roams where simplicity is strong. Transparency breeds trust; and it is the simplicity of Marfa that has inspired our designs and strengthened our tribe. Culture is not where you are from, but what guides the pace and direction of your heart. It has nothing to do with soil and everything to do with soul. This collection is refreshing and honest. Each piece is connected to an artisan, who manifests her story through her craft. It embodies purpose and displays a similar strength we find in Marfa culture.

The art of backstrap weaving is practiced by many artisans in the highlands of Guatemala and has been indigenous to the region for generations. Our collection employs this technique to create elaborate textiles. According to Maya myth, backstrap weaving originated with Ixchel, the Maya Goddess taking numerous forms – Moon, Water, Weaving, and Childbirth. She is the deity of fertility and procreation and represents female empowerment. Ixchel taught the first woman to weave, and since then the practice has been passed on from mother to daughter, generation after generation. Tribe Alive is honored to be a part of preserving such a rich cultural practice through the production of our beautiful Guatemalan collection.
