W&M set a single-game school record for fewest passing yards allowed at JMU in 2010, as the Dukes threw for zero yards (attempted just one pass).

Overtime

W&M and JMU have played a pair of overtime contests, as the Dukes earned narrow victories in 2002 (3431) and 2012 (27-26). The 2012 matchup went into double overtime and ended after a failed two-point conversion attempt.

Success vs. No. 1

W&M has won two of its last three contests against opponents with a No. 1 national ranking. W&M defeated Villanova, 31-24, in 2010 and Southern Illinois, 24-3, in 2009 before falling to JMU, 46-14, in 2017.

The Tribe is 3-3 all-time versus top-ranked teams.

W&M Debuts

A school-record 16 true freshmen have played this season. The group includes: DreSean Kendrick, Imari Smith, Malachi Imoh, Alex Washington, Quinn Osborne, John Kearney, Ethan Chang, John Pius, Charles Grant, Tyler Rose, JT Mayo, Mattijs Lasore, Ry Yates, James Jennette, Sammy Sarantis, Jayde Pierre and Mike Malone

Last season, W&M set a then-school record with 11 true freshman earning playing time.

Big Gains

After rushing for just 72 yards in the season opener at Richmond, W&M rushed for 242 yards in last week’s win against Elon - an improvement of 170 yards.

Dominant Performance

In addition to limiting Elon to just 10 points in last week’s victory, W&M allowed just 196 total yards. It marked the program’s best effort defensively since limiting Delaware to just 195 total yards in 2017.

W&M was especially stout on the ground and held the Phoenix to just 54 rushing yards.

Among the Nation’s Best

With a pair of strong efforts to begin the season, W&M currently ranks among the nation’s best in numerous defensive categories. The Tribe ranks 14th in scoring defense (15.5), 14th in total defense (253.0) and 17th in passing defense (141.5).

Protecting the Quarterback

W&M has protected the quarterback well this season and ranks 10th nationally with just 1.0 sacks allowed per game.

Fourth Down Conversions

The Tribe has converted on three of its fourth down attempts this season and ranks ninth nationally with a 75.0 conversion percentage.

Tough Defense at Zable Stadium

The Tribe defense has been outstanding in home games since the start of the 2009 season and is allowing just 18.6 points per game at Zable Stadium during the impressive stretch.
