IMPACT REPORT 2012
Together, we can
CREATE REAL CHANGE IN OUR COMMUNITY.
COLLECTIVE IMPACT IS THE FUTURE There’s a new way of doing business that’s sweeping the non-profit sector. It promises broader community involvement and more powerful results. Wouldn’t you know it, our Trident United Way has been doing it for the last half-decade. It’s called collective impact and it amounts to an unprecedented level of collaboration. Solving complex issues requires that many partners work together in a purposeful and systematic way with a shared agenda and common measurements. Collective impact requires a backbone organization to manage the entire initiative. That’s Trident United Way’s role. You might have heard about Trident United Way’s Links to Success initiative, the enormously successful collective impact approach to increasing high school graduation. It has served thousands of children over the last five years with astonishing results outlined in the following pages. New in 2012 was the concept of Prosperity Centers, a collective impact approach to lifting families out of poverty. Trident United Way, Palmetto Goodwill and Family Services are co-locating services in Berkeley and Dorchester counties to provide comprehensive, one-stop services to help move families to financial stability and then to self-sufficiency. Our local United Way remains on the cutting edge, pioneering collective impact in the Lowcountry and pushing it forward with real, long-lasting results. That is why I’m proud to be Board Chair in 2013 and encourage you to support Trident United Way. Charles Patrick Richardson Patrick Westbrook & Brickman, LLC 2013 Trident United Way Board Chair

COMMUNITY INVESTMENTS In order to continue the work of achieving the community’s goals to increase high school GRADUATION, reduce POVERTY and improve people’s HEALTH in the Lowcountry, Trident United Way works with dozens of funded partners on programs measurably changing lives in these areas. On the next few pages are the programs that formed the backbone of TUW’s work in 2012 in education, financial stability and health. These strategic funding decisions were made by hundreds of community volunteers in a painstaking and disciplined process over months of work. Community Impact volunteers are crucial to the success of Trident United Way’s work.
