Dear Trimax Solutions user,

Facebook changes to company pages for mobile users April 2013 saw the unveiling of a new look for Facebook company pages when viewed on mobile devices. Both the design features and the layout have been revamped to be optimised for mobile viewing. The changes have been introduced due to the radically increased numbers of users viewing the social media site from mobile devices, such as smart phones or tablets. The new layout can already be viewed by iOS users and will soon be available to Android users.

The great news for Facebook company page owners is that you do not need to do anything to apply these changes If your business already has a Facebook company page set up, or your business is thinking about setting up a page, you do not need to do anything to apply these changes. Existing Facebook company pages and any new company pages which are set up, will automatically be optimised for mobile viewing meaning that marketers time can be better spent planning their mobile strategy.

What are the changes for mobile users? Read on to discover the most notable changes to mobile viewers of Facebook’s company pages:

Simplified navigation The look and feel has been simplified to make it more user friendly for mobile users.

Easier interaction Buttons have been added below the cover photo to check in, share, call, send a message and find out more.

Important information is easier to find Information which is most relevant, and more useful to the viewer, is displayed towards the top of the page, to limit the amount of scrolling users have to do to find important information. This includes:  A zoomed in map, opening hours, price range and the star rating average  Reviews from friends are displayed next to the user’s friend list with an option to add a recommendation  Large photos are now displayed above the post feed in a slideshow like effect

What are the changes for Facebook company page holders? As well as improvements to the design and layout for users, Facebook’s has also changed the way in which company page account holders and page admins view and interact with their page on mobile devices.

Posts which are pinned now appear higher Important posts, such as offers and videos, can now be pinned to be viewed centred at the top on mobile devices to increase the amount of exposure.

Easier management of pages Company page holders and page admins can now easily switch between different views of their page (from an admin point of you and from a user point of view), so comments can be left from either their personal account or their business account.

Central branding for corporate pages The layout for corporate pages has also changed to allow for a central brand page, as well as multiple local company pages. The central page shows links to the local pages below the map to make it easier for users to find the location closest to them.

The implications for businesses The changes of the design and layout of Facebook company page have big implications for marketers. These improvements reflect a response by Facebook, to the shift in how Facebook users are using the site. Mobile consumers of Facebook are perhaps more interested in gaining information about the business to put to action, as opposed to interacting with the page, compared with desktop users. When on the go mobile device users who need to look up the telephone number or opening hours of a local business, for example, can now go direct to the Facebook company page on their mobile to find this information easily. The focus of company pages is now on information relating to the business such as geographical location, contact information, recommendations and star ratings. Facebook company pages have now become even more vital to Local business owners, to interact with users and make the information they need readily available, in order for them to make contact with their business. Mobile users may even turn to Facebook company pages for local business information over competitor’s websites and apps, so it is extremely important that pages are fully optimised and display accurate, essential information.
