A B O U T

Trine Young is a Danish/Korean fashion designer who creates ‘Sustainable Luxury’ with particular focus on quality, craftmanship and detail. Based in Copenhagen with a Masters degree in Womenswear from London College of Fashion, she is influenced by both Scandinavian and British fashion. “As a designer, I make countless decisions when bringing to life a new design- and I don’t see why I shouldn’t make the right ones. The role of the designer has evolved ...My designs are always thought through, or one could even say, thoroughly investigated before actually being made. I call it ‘fashion made responsibly’. For instance, I prefer to use durable materials such as sustainable leather, as I wish for people to cherish my design for longer, which is also why I like pattern cutting techniques that reduce waste and result in unique and luxurious garments which tend to tell a story and thus are able to stimulate the affection of clothes”.

An object can become the culmination, physical manifestation and symbol of good works –in its intention, design making, use and disposal... Beauty can be captured in the object through what it represents, and not simply through its appearance. Stuart Walker, Co-Director of the ImaginationLancaster design research lab, Lancaster University. Appeared in ‘Deeper Luxury’, WWF-UK report (2007)

All materials are sourced with the help from the Centre for Sustainable Fashion & The London College of Fashion Materials Library v. Jess Lertvilai. Although all materials may not be 100% sustainable, leather is still a sustainable product in terms of its durability and ability to maintain its quality-value. Leather which is a by-product from the food-industry are preferable as it is otherwise a waste product.
