About Matilda’s Planet Some years ago Matilda, Social Entrepreneur David Evans MBE‘s five year old daughter, told him he should take more responsibility for the environment. Her words prompted him to establish Matilda’s Planet.

At Matilda’s Planet we are committed to finding solutions to our energy problems. The company’s values are to be socially responsible, sustainable – and to provide practical solutions to the real problem of keeping your house warm.

We have a solution that’s both practical and socially responsible. We all know that changing the way we consume energy is something we have to do – but actually doing anything about it is a challenge. Matilda’s Planet came from a little girl’s belief that it’s the job of the ‘grown-ups’ to make sure that the legacy we leave for our children is one both we, and they, can be proud of.

Match Report Saturday 30th October 2021 Spartan South Midlands Premier Division MK Irish 3-2 Tring Athletic TOO LITTLE TOO LATE

After our morale boosting win in the FA Vase the previous Saturday we came up short against a side that started the season strongly but had seen their form dip in recent weeks with 3 defeats on the trot. This was our first ever encounter against MK Irish and any hope of getting something out of this game was severely dented by a very poor performance in the first half when we conceded 2 soft goals.

We did improve after the break and reduced the deficit to one goal but we then conceded a third from a set piece and although we scored again it was right at the end of the game and we ran out of time. Our hosts started strongly and Harrison Cornick had to come to the rescue to stop an early goal. But MK Irish were not to be denied and in the 15th minute Dominic Lawless slotted the ball past keeper Craig Garrett who was standing in for David Saunders. Lawless looked a mile offside because he was in loads of space but evidently someone played him on and we were punished for this sloppy start. Score 1-0. Kieran Turner did force the home keeper into making a smart save but this was an isolated opportunity as our opponents were well on top. With 5 minutes to go to the break and an opportunity to sort things out we gave away another poor goal when a home player was shoved over in the box and a penalty was awarded. Lawless stepped up and gave Craig Garrett no chance with a well taken spot kick and were staring at another league defeat. HT Score 2-0.

Ryan and his team did manage to generate a reaction during the break and 8 minutes after the restart Kieran Turner showed his leadership by firing home a goal following a short corner. Score 2-1

MK Irish 3-2 TAFC We started to look a different side now and some lovely play by Kieran Turner presenting Evans Lamboh with a sight of goal but unfortunately his shot cleared the bar. Later Ollie Butler shot over after a good build up but in the 63rd minute we failed to tightly mark the home centre back Scott Dummitt and he punished us by restoring his side’s 2 goal lead with a powerful header from a corner. Score 3-1. We brought on Frankie Hercules and Luke Peerless as well as 16 year old Ali Mohiuddin for his First Team debut and we continue to press forward looking in the vain hope we could get something out of the game. Our persistence paid off when two minutes into added time we did make another break through when Frankie Hercules headed home a precise Kieran Turner cross but unfortunately we ran out of time and MK Irish finished as deserved winners. FT Score 3-2.

This was the fifth time this season we have lost by just a single goal in the League and that has cost us lots of valuable points. We are three points adrift at the bottom of the table behind Dunstable Town, Crawley Green and Baldock Town with the latter due to visit The Grass Roots Stadium on Saturday. So we have an opportunity to join those above us but we need to start winning games. Our opponents Baldock Town FC played its first competitive match in September 2003 in the North Herts League at The Shed on Clothall Road, Baldock (Now known as Buffs FC). The match was against Magnum with a Rob Foster hat-trick sealing a 5-1 win .

Since then the Club have progressed from the North Herts League to the Herts Senior County League. The 1st Team won Division One of the HSCL in their debut season in 2007/2008. For three seasons from 2008/09, the team played its home matches on Saturday afternoons at The County Ground, Baldock Road in Letchworth, but they returned to Baldock for the 2011/12 season playing at Baldock Town FC's former home at Norton Road, which is now known as the North Herts Arena. After three near misses, the 1st Team finally won the Herts Senior County League Premier Division title in 2011/12. Unfortunately, due to ground grading issues, the team were unable to take their place in the Spartan South Midlands League. For the 2012/13 season, the team began a groundshare with Hitchin Town FC. Despite finishing runners-up in the HSCL Premier Division the following season, it would still prove enough to secure that elusive promotion. Scott Grant's side also won the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy for the first time and retained the Anagram Records Trophy. The next two seasons saw a period of consolidation for the 1st Team finishing 7th and 10th respectively in Spartan South Midlands League Division One (Step 6 on the Non-League Pyramid).

Baldock Town After Grant decided to step down Luke Gregson took the reins for the 2015/16 season, assisted by Dean Gilbert. After an indifferent start, the team went on a superb run and ended up just missing out on promotion. The 3rd place finish was the club's highest in the Football Pyramid to date.

At the end of the 2018-19 season Luke Gregson stood down and former Welwyn Garden City manager Adam Fisher took over. Fisher’s side started slowly and only began to pick up some form at the end of November shortly after Rob Bates came on board as Assistant Manager bringing some key signings with him – Baldock went on an impressive unbeaten run climbing the table before the pandemic brought the season to a premature end. In the summer of 2020 Adam Fisher resigned as manager and the club promoted Assistant Manager Rob Bates to the Manager’s position. The team currently groundshare at Arlesey Town FC's ground; there are plans in place to build a new stadium in Baldock near Clothall Common.

THE INANE RAMBLINGS FROM UP NORFF “NOWT SO QUEER AS YORKSHIRE FOLK’ BY KAREN BROWNE Saturday 30th October—WEEKEND HEADLINES Goals galore as Leighton Town score eight on the road. Harefield United and Raunds Town both hit six while Flackwell Heath net five. Saturday brought about 92 goals from the 22 games (an average of 4.18 per game). Fabian Driffill (Flackwell Heath), Adam Speight (Raunds Town) and James Younger (Langford) all netting hat-tricks PREMIER DIVISION No changes for the two teams at the top of the Premier Division as both recorded wins, leaders Leighton Town recorded their best away win since defeating Stotfold 8-1 in the Dudley Latham Cup back in November 2017 as they hit at Holmer Green while second placed Risborough Rangers overcame visiting Harpenden Town 3-1. Leverstock Green took full advantage of the Harps defeat to replace them in third place as they won the ‘Green’ battle with a 4-1 win over Crawley Green at Pancake Lane (more on this later in the Ramblings). At the bottom of the table Tring Athletic remain rooted after narrowly going down by the odd goal in five at Milton Keynes Irish while Baldock Town climbed out of the relegation one with a 1-0 win at Aylesbury Vale Dynamos. Flackwell Heath enjoyed a 5-0 win at home against Dunstable Town, a result that sent the visitors into the bottom two while Harefield United went one better as they recorded a 6-0 home success against London Colney. Elsewhere there were away wins for New Salamis (2-0 at Arlesey Town) and Hadley who edged out Broadfields United by the odd goal in three. COMMITTEE AWAYDAYS On a fine sunny day it was a battle of the ‘greens’ that caught my eye this afternoon…one team four from the top, one team four from the bottom. With Crawley Green joining the ever increasing ‘Managerial Movement Club’ how would they fare on the well prepared pitch at Pancake Lane. Levvy had no such worries and pushed their opponents onto the back foot with some mazy wing play and were immediately rewarded with the opening goal as early as the 2nd minute. 1-0 then. But Crawley had other ideas, broke away up the hill and a fine shot ended up in the top left hand corner 1-1. This equaliser clearly stung the home team, who pushed and pushed down the flanks, giving the visiting full backs little respite. That it took until the 23rd minute for Leverstock to get their noses in front once again was surprising, but again the numbers 7 and 11 left the visitors chasing shadows and the poor goalie was picking the ball out the back of the net once again 2-1.

The Views Expressed Are Solely My Own, Are Written Tongue In Cheek And Should Be Taken With A Pinch Of Salt A weekly column courtesy of the SSML Fixture Secretary

Sensing greater things might be achieved, Levy continued to push with pacey moves down the hill and were duly rewarded with two more fine goals before the break (Half-time 4-1). I suspect that the Crawley management had plenty to say during the break and to the neutral observer they played with far greater resolve and determination in that second period. The score remained as it was at half time, the visitors offering much more…perhaps they liked running downhill? In the end Leverstock finished three from the top and Crawley three from the bottom. The other three were of course the Match Officials…competent and consistent so no complaints there. Thank you to both clubs and their respective management teams for a welcoming, pleasant afternoon’s entertainment, without any petulance or rancour!!! THE ROVING REF—SSMFL Board & Committee member Bob Flight travelled to leafy Buckinghamshire to watch Aston Clinton take on high flying New Bradwell St Peter in a Division Two match. He also wanted to show his, and the Leagues, respect to Aston Clinton secretary Dave McArdle, who had sadly passed away during the week, by joining a well-attended minute of applause before the kick off. He also took the opportunity before the game to belatedly present New Bradwell St Peter with their Team of the Month award from August. In an entertaining game played in bright sunshine and before some 60 spectators, Aston Clinton dominated the first half but without breaching the resolute Peters defence and Peters were fortunate to end the half all square. The second half started in similar fashion but Peters began to grow into the match. It was from a breakaway that Peters scored when Jack Bradford shot in from close range on 60 minutes. Ten minutes later it was two when defender Nathan Hawkins blasted a thirty yard free kick into the corner of the Aston net. Whilst Aston tried to respond, they were once again caught on the break when Michael Winch scored on 78 minutes. One had to feel sorry for Aston as the score line did not really reflect the whole game but whilst they could not score, Peters had three shots on target and scored from each of them! This result was testament to the attitude of the Peters team who just had the bare eleven men and no subs and now remain second in the table behind local rivals Old Bradwell United. AND FINALLY It Would Never Happen In A SSML Game – Referee makes a mistake. At the start of the second half in the League Two game between Leyton Orient and Hartlepool United Referee Alan Young realised he had taken the players off too early at the end of the first half, he corrected his own error by arranging for the two sides to come out after the half-time interval and play the missing four minutes before then swapping ends to immediately kick off the second half.

On This Day—6th November 2010 Of late we have been developing tendencies like the Boom Town Rats except we dislike Tuesday nights rather than Mondays. Fortunately the malaise we have shown in midweek cup games has not transferred itself to Saturday afternoon League fixtures where our form has been superb. Coming into the game KLT had lost 3 games on the bounce and were 11th in the table, but a trip to this part of North West London is never easy as shown by our failure to win there in 4 previous visits. But a match winning performance from Nick Jackson who grabbed a brace of goals including the deserved winner 5 minutes from time ensured that this time we came away with something tangible. We controlled large chunks of the game and were 2 ahead at the break although the margin should have been greater because we were denied 2 blatant penalties. But in a mad one minute spell early in the second half we allowed the home side to draw level before again reasserting our authority. With joint leading scorer Ryan Redford unfit Manager Phil Casserley opted for a 5 man midfield supporting lone striker Vinnie Iannone. The system worked a treat with players given licence to push forward to join the attack and lots of chances were created. Both sides were lively from the start with Nick Jackson nearly picking out Vinnie Iannone with a cross and Tony Fields latching onto a wayward header from a home defender before shooting over. The Tigers wide man Hardy Pinto Moreira saw his shot fall fortuitously to Kye Hendrix who was quickly robbed before he could do any damage and Henry Emenike drew a good save from Tom Vincent after a good run across the edge of our area. The opening goal arrived in the 17th minute and came about by the quick thinking of keeper Tom Vincent. Noticing Nick Jackson’s clever break Tom launched a long kick and with Vinnie Iannone challenging for the ball the home defence failed to clear their lines and in the chaos Nick Jackson nipped in to score. A minute later Matt Myatt was close to adding to the lead, heading a cross just wide of the post after Vinnie Iannone and Nick Jackson combined to carve open the right hand side of the Tigers defence. Our defence had to be alert to the quick breaks from the home side with their wingers Hardy Pinto Moreira and Henry Emenike looking sharp and dangerous but we coped well with Henry Thomas winning some towering headers ably assisted by his fellow central defender Shane Wood. It was Henry who whipped the ball off the toes of Kye Hendrix as he closed in on a great cross from home skipper Edson Cata. We were creating some good opportunities and we were unfortunate not to get 2 penalties when Ashley Addison was twice fouled in the box. They were clear cut and it is hard to understand why they were not given. Another goal was on the cards and it was no surprise when we doubled our lead in the 37th minute. Matt Myatt won a great challenge in midfield and the ball was played to Nick Jackson who then skinned Adil Salin down the left wing before sending in a great cross. Vinnie Iannone got his head to it and Ashley Addison was on hand to nod the ball into the net from close range to make the score 2-0.

Kingsbury London Tigers 2-3 TAFC Ashley Addison later went close after the home keeper missed a free kick and Edson Cata found himself in a promising position but his resulting shot was wayward. After a good half we went with a 2 goal lead and were well worth this advantage although we could justifiably say we should have been further ahead if the 2 penalties had been given. At the start of the second half the home side brought on forward Prince Ojok for defender Franklyn Morris and for 15 minutes they put us on the rack. Hardy Pinto Moreira swept a shot just wide and Tom Vincent pulled off a brilliant save to deny Henry Emenike. The Tigers were making a big effort to get back into the game and we were forced to defend. We had a great chance to quell the home side’s response in the 50th minute after Ashley Addison’s run set up Andy Mullins who weaved his way into the area, but the shot was delayed and the final effort from Tony Fields went wide. Soon afterwards Vinnie Iannone headed a free kick from Ashley Addison just wide as we appeared to have weathered the storm until disaster struck within the space of a minute. Prince Ojok’s shot in the 56th minute did not appear too damaging until it was deflected to an unmarked Kye Hendrix who gratefully accepted the opportunity to make the score 2-1 and bring his side back into the game. Straight from the kick off we gifted the ball to the Tigers and Kye Hendrix was on hand again to level the scores at 2-2. It was now game on but we were not about to buckle easily and we gradually took control of the game again as the home side’s resurgence dissipated. The home keeper Axinte Valentin tipped an Ashley Addison free kick around the post and from the resulting corner Graham Hall headed the ball against the bar. Hardy Pinto Moreira shot straight at Tom Vincent but the tide was turning in our favour as gaps started to appear in the home defence. With 5 minutes to go Graham Hall played a lovely pass down the right for Nick Jackson and the skilful winger kept his cool to run through and place his shot beyond the keeper to make the score 3-2. It was his 13th goal of the season and he is proving to be a great signing for us. The Tigers tried to mount a final assault but we were able to keep them out and claim a valuable 3 points and our first ever win at Silver Jubilee Park. KLT: Axinte Valentin, Dmitri Larkin, Terence Cariba, Franklyn Morris (Prince Ojok 45), Abdullahi Hassan, Henry Emenike, Hardy Pinto Moreira, Adil Salin, Oni Thomas, Edson Cata (Capt), Kye Hendrix (Mohamed Bettamer 70).
