About Matilda’s Planet Some years ago Matilda, Social Entrepreneur David Evans MBE‘s five year old daughter, told him he should take more responsibility for the environment. Her words prompted him to establish Matilda’s Planet.

At Matilda’s Planet we are committed to finding solutions to our energy problems. The company’s values are to be socially responsible, sustainable – and to provide practical solutions to the real problem of keeping your house warm. We have a solution that’s both practical and socially responsible. We all know that changing the way we consume energy is something we

have to do – but actually doing anything about it is a challenge. Matilda’s Planet came from a little girl’s belief that it’s the job of the ‘grown-ups’ to make sure that the legacy we leave for our children is one both we, and they, can be proud of.

Grassroots Talk

Good evening & welcome to the Grass Roots Stadium for the visit of our friends & local rivals Aylesbury Vale Dynamos. We welcome their players, officials and supporters and wish them a safe short journey home afterwards. We have already lost two home matches to the weather in the last seven days and this game has itself been postponed once already so we keep our fingers crossed for a different outcome today. Our match sponsors this afternoon are The Cook Partnership , a firm of chartered accountant based on the Icknield Way Industrial Estate and we thank them for their ongoing support. Find out more about them on page 7. We still have match sponsorship availability on future games (see page 16) so please speak to Graham Bright if you are interested. If you are able to volunteer for the club on a regular basis or even just occasionally please speak to a committee member. We are always grateful for extra support.

Chairman’s Chat

Well it’s been an interesting and busy start to the year. Good to see that the challenges associated with the pandemic are easing – but we still need to take care. In terms of the First Team, I think it’s fair to say our league position needs to improve but there have been some fantastic performances since the turn of the year that have certainly met my expectations. The signs were there at the start of January when we gave Risborough Rangers (then unbeaten in 40 games) a real scare. We earned some real praise that day and it felt like our young and talented team had come of age, but were unfortunate to lose to a late scrappy goal. At Broadfields away we built on this with a great performance and result, which should have been by a much wider margin than 3-2. This was followed by a real shocker away at Baldock, a game we approached with optimism – but let ourselves down. I’ll be honest, there was some soul searching after this game all round. However, for me it’s about keeping the faith with the team and trusting your judgement. That’s been rewarded in spades since with convincing performances and results against Holmer Green away and particularly, against title challengers Hadley – who could forget Ollie Butler’s late winner and the chaos that ensued. However, it was last week’s performance away to league leaders New Salamis that proved to my highlight of the season so far, and showed exactly what this team is capable of. It was a performance that showed great ability, focus, determination and character - we gave our hosts a real scare and fully deserved what was an excellent point. We’re not out of the woods just yet, but we can see the edge of the forest! These recent performances have shown exactly what the team is capable of - and that’s being able to compete with, and indeed beat, the top sides. Ryan and the players must now build on these excellent performances and elevate us up the table. It would make me very happy if they started with this today!

Chairman’s Chat

On other fronts, I was very pleased to see the Reserves secure an impressive 3-0 win last week. As you may know, Reserve Manager Michael Churchill will be leaving us at the end of season. I’d like to thank him for all his help, and wish him all the best going forward. Unusually, I got the chance to watch the U18’s last Sunday in the next round of Cup. A great performance but they were unfortunate to go down to the only goal in extra time. That’s football I guess, but some great talent for the future in that team. The U16’s played in a league game later in the day and notched up a superb 2-0 win against Ware Academy. Away from the pitch there are some exciting projects being developed. The most exciting of which is the installation of the 4g pitch and we are currently awaiting the outcome of planning, which we hope to secure shortly. Our application was due to go to the February planning meeting, but we were advised this week that this meeting has been deferred, so will likely be March. Once planning has been secured we can focus on planning and delivering this significant and transformational project. That’s it for now except to say I hope you enjoy the game.

Onwards & upwards Cheers Bob
