Performance Adhesives

Performance Adhesives are very happy to sponsor todays FA Vase game against Burnham Ramblers FC. I have looked up Burnham on Crouch and my favourite fact is that the Essex town is mentioned in the song "Billericay Dickie", by Ian Dury. This song alludes to Burnham's somewhat upmarket status in the county, with the invitation "Oh golly, oh gosh, Come and lie on the couch, With a nice bit of posh, From Burnham-on-Crouch."

We wish both teams a good day but Tring slightly more so. We especially hope to see a good game of football and most importantly that the players have an enjoyable afternoon. As for my football knowledge, it’s not huge, so I won’t attempt to make any educated comments as many of the Tring faithful will know I have spent my sporting life ‘egg chasing’ on the other side of the wall but being from Tring know many of the ex-players and supporters and the history of this great club. I, like so many people in Tring, are rightfully very proud of all the sporting prowess our small town achieves.

Performance Adhesives Limited are a company based at the Icknield Way Industrial Estate who are suppliers to the construction industry supplying fenestration products, fire stopping products, flooring preparation products, membranes, fire doors and fire door remediation products. Our leading brands - illbruck, Flowcrete, Nullifire, Vandex, TREMCO, Dryvit and Nudura and V-Line Doorsets.

PAL also offer technical advice and have our own training centre on site for fire stopping and fire door installation. That’s the sales pitch finished. If you would like to know more, please get in touch.

Amongst PAL’s local employees we have ex cricketing legend Simon Shearman, current Tring cricket player (to one day be a legend) Toby Seagrave, Tring rugby legends; Tom Newton and Jonny Whitehead (to a much lesser extent) Sam Shearman expert Tring darts player, Reece Bartlett current Tring rugby player, Dave Wicker who apparently has kicked the ball around for Tring Athletic but has now passed the mantle onto his son Lewis (who in fairness has a much better control of his emotions on the pitch than his father), Darren ‘the hit man’ O’ Brian

our white collar boxer and Richard Saunders who played both cricket and football but down the road in Northchurch -boo! Richard Murphy who decorated TAFC (at very reasonable rates) and is a member of every Tring sporting club with the pre requisite it has a bar and finally Stefan Dracula - our tiddly winks expert who is working the TAFC barwho is an expert cocktail maker - well he can pour a decent pint anyway. So the best of luck to Tring Athletic today let’s hope for a good game, a Tring win preferably and an enjoyable afternoon for everyone.

Ryan Earle, 17 has been a Tring Athletic FC youth player for 3 years and also attends Ben Herd football academy so has links with Hertford Town FC. He was diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukaemia last week and is now at UCL hospital undergoing treatment.

Ryan began this pre-season training with our first team, a testament to how well he is developing as a player with a very bright future. A few weeks ago Ryan took a knock to his head during an u18 friendly game against Leverstock Green FC, he had a small lump and also had a dizzy spell and to be on the safe side he attended where he was advised the lump was a cyst. A couple of weeks later we were playing Balham FC in the FA youth cup and Ryan felt unwell during the day and so presented himself at A&E where he collapsed.

Ryan was admitted and tests would reveal he has Acute myeloid leukaemia & is now receiving his treatment at UCL hospital in London. All those who know or have have met Ryan know what a infectious joker he is, full of life and always laughing. The diagnosis has come as a huge shock to us all but no more so than for Ryan's family. We have started this page to allow people to donate. The aim being to take some of the families financial stresses away so they can concentrate on supporting Ryan as he faces 6 months of treatment to overcome this diagnosis. The family will have huge expenditure with travel, accommodation, food amongst other things on top of keeping the home going. If you can help in anyway no matter how small you will make a huge difference in helping to concentrate on getting Ryan better and back home

Today’s Visitors

The first record of football being played in Burnham dates back to 1895. Out of this Burnham Ramblers came to be formed in 1900.

For 27 years the club used four different grounds until they moved to Wick Road. The ground was gradually improved and extended over the years and after many successful seasons as a junior club, gained intermediate status in 1960. The club then progressed further to gain senior status in 1985.

Prior to 1985, Ramblers played in many competitions and won several honours, including reaching the Essex Junior Cup Final on three occasions and the Essex Intermediate Cup Final in 1981, losing to Leytonstone & Ilford. The club’s greatest venture was completed when after years of preparation we moved to our current ten acre complex. This includes three pitches and a training pitch.

Over the last few years we have improved our facilities even more in preparation for promotion from Step 5 to Step 4. In 1988/9 Ramblers had their greatest success to date when they reached the last sixteen in the F.A. Vase, but lost 1 0 to Southern League Bury Town. In 1991/2 we reached the last 32, losing at Newport (l.o.W) 3 1.

In 1997 the club won its first senior trophy when we beat Stansted 2 1 in the Harry Fisher Cup Final. Since then we have been runners up in E.S.L competitions eight times. Three players made it into full professional football, Fred Wolfe to West Ham in 1911, Gordon Brasted to Arsenal in 1953 and John Warner to Colchester in 1988.

A major blow in 2000 was the untimely death of our Chairman Gordon Brasted. With the demise of the Harry Fisher Trophy, we were delighted to replace it with the Gordon Brasted Trophy in the Essex Senior League, a fitting memorial to Gordon. William (Billy) Hannan took over as Chairman in 2003, Billy remains as our chairman today.

Burnham Ramblers

2003 2006 Mike Everett became 1st team manager. The season started better than hoped reaching the 2nd Qualifying round in the FA Cup and the 2nd round in the FA Vase but failed to reach expectation as the season progressed. Season 2004/2005 finishing runners up to Enfield Town by just one point in the league and just missing out again on promotion, reaching the Gordon Brasted Final and losing to Waltham Abbey on penalties, winning the Tolleshunt D’Arcy Cup beating Stanway Rovers 2 1 in the final and semi finalists in the League Cup. Work was completed on the ground in 2005 in readiness for promotion to Step 4 with the inclusion of three new turnstiles and new perimeter fencing.

2006 2008; Derek Robinson takes over as 1st team manager for the start of season 2006/2007, Derek resigned as 1st team manager in October 2008.

2008 – 2010 Garry Kimble took over 1st team manager with Clive Day as his Assistant/Coach. On 11th April 2009 the Ramblers won their first Senior Trophy for 12 years winning the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy beating Enfield 1893 2 1. Season 2009/2010 finishing third in the ESL and losing in the League Cup final for the second year running. The club was successful in the Tolleshunt D’Arcy winning a close final beating Witham Town FC.

Season 2010 - 2011 saw Keith Wilson step up from Club Captain to take over as 1st team manager assisted by David Patient. Winning the Gordon Brasted Memorial Cup in extra time 4 2 against Eton Manor FC and finishing seventh in their first season was a great achievement.

Season 2011 2012 Keith Wilson and Dave Patient remained at the helm and kept most of last season’s players, finishing a credible 4th in the league and reaching the semi-finals of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Cup and loosing finalist in the League Cup and Tolleshunt D’Arcy Memorial Cup.

Burnham Ramblers

Season 2012 2103 again Keith and Dave retained most of last season’s players with a few experienced additions, finally the club achieved it’s best ever season as CHAMPIONS of the Essex Senior League leading the premier division for most of the season finally winning by nine points then to go on and complete the double by beating Enfield 1893 8 2 in the Gordon Brasted Final. Keith promised the club promotion within three years and kept to his promise.

As ESL Champions the Ramblers have been promoted into The Ryman Isthmian Division 1 North for the 1st time in its history and looks forward to playing at Step 4 of the National Pyramid for season 2013 2014 retaining the services of both Keith Wilson (Manager) and David Patient (Assistant Manager), this coming season they will be looking to keep most of last season’s winning squad but with some experienced additions plus they have strengthened their back room staff with the inclusion of two excellent coaches Adam Munn and Lee Elliston Season 2013 2014 Keith & Dave keep a good part of last season’s winning squad and had a sound start to life at Step 4 of the National Pyramid playing in the Isthmian Ryman Division 1 North, finishing 17th in our first season Adam Munn and Lee Elliston joined the coaching staff, Lee left to manage Woodford Town in November, he was replaced by the experienced Leon Woodford.

The most successful manager in the club’s history, Keith Wilson decides to leave the club on 6th July 2014 and after four years of stability at the club sees lots of changes with Lee Elliston leaving after only two weeks as 1st team manager. The club is proud to announce the launch of The Burnham Ramblers Youth Academy under the directorship of Dave Thompson and Leon Woodford. We have three teams Under 16, Under 17 and Under 18 in the Eastern Junior Alliance, plus the newly formed Under 21’s playing in the Ryman Under 21 League for season 2014 2015.

Burnham Ramblers

Season 2014 2015 Bertie Brayley takes over as 1st Team Player Manager on Friday 1st August just one week before the start of the new season he is assisted by Leon Woodford as 1st Team Coach. With just four League games remaining of the 2014 15 season, Bertie Brayley resigns and Keith Wilson returns as 1st Team Manager together with David Patient (Assistant Manager) and John Pike (Coach) retaining the services of all three for the current 2015 16 season.

Season 2015-16 Keith Wilson continued to manage the 1st Team but John Pike resigned as coach. Keith completed the season but resigned at the end of the season.

Season 2016 17 season we welcome Lee Hughes to the Club to manage the 1st Team along with Dave Patient but Dave decided to leave the club before a ball was kicked in the new season. Lee has managed/coached at Semi Pro for Heybridge Swifts at 16s, 18s and reserves, for Brentwood Town at 16s, 18s and reserves and (1st Team Coach).

At Pro Level he has worked for Charlton FC 14s to 16s, Leyton Orient FC 13s to 16s and Southend FC at U13s

Lee has UEFA badges and Youth Modules at level 3. He has worked in football at pro level for the last 13 years and has worked in football for over 20 years. He has and still is working for several grass roots clubs and Pro Path Academy.

At Pro Level he has worked for Charlton FC 14s to 16s, Leyton Orient FC 13s to 16s and Southend FC at U13s. The 1st Team were unfortunately relegated from the Essex Senior League to the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties First Division South.

Burnham Ramblers

For Season 2018 19 Lee and his assistant Gary James managed and coached the 1st Team. For the first half of the season things did not go too well with the first Team continually struggling to draw away from the relegation area. Due to the poor results Lee departed from the club. Alex Salmon who was a player for the 1st Team at the time was promoted to Manager. From this point performances improved, and things began to look encouraging.

The season 2019 20 saw the Management Team of Alex Salmon, Gary James and coach Joe Flower continue to run the 1st Team. Alex Salmon and Gary James left the club in January 2020 to move to Basildon United. With this happening the club is pleased to announce John Brandon as 1st team manager from February 2020. Unfortunately, the whole world became part of a Pandemic due to Coronavirus so therefore the season became void. John Brandon and his coaching staff look forward to the 20/21 season remaining in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties First Division South.
