About Matilda’s Planet Some years ago Matilda, Social Entrepreneur David Evans MBE‘s five year old daughter, told him he should take more responsibility for the environment. Her words prompted him to establish Matilda’s Planet.

At Matilda’s Planet we are committed to finding solutions to our energy problems. The company’s values are to be socially responsible, sustainable – and to provide practical solutions to the real problem of keeping your house warm.

We have a solution that’s both practical and socially responsible. We all know that changing the way we consume energy is something we have to do – but actually doing anything about it is a challenge. Matilda’s Planet came from a little girl’s belief that it’s the job of the ‘grown-ups’ to make sure that the legacy we leave for our children is one both we, and they, can be proud of.

Grassroots Talk

Good afternoon & welcome to the Grass Roots Stadium. Today we welcome the players, officials and supporters of Oxhey Jets, wishing them an enjoyable afternoon and a safe journey home afterwards. This is our 12th competitive match of the season, but the first time we’ve played at home on a Saturday. Today’s match sponsors is John Brannan, a loyal supporter of over 30 years who is usually found cheering us on from the Rugby Club end. John was a member of our committee serving as Chairman during our Miswell Lane days and we would like to thank him for his support. We have availability on future games (see page 14) or you could choose to sponsor your favourite player for the season (page 13) Our Commercial Manager Graham Bright has been busy securing sponsors for our four sides, but we’d love to have more local businesses supporting us here at Tring Athletic. New Arrival Congratulations to our former Jets player Scott Bonner and his partner Abbie, on the birth of Bertie George Bonner this week. Covid Compliance

We had visits to the ground by the police and the league covid officer and we have taken on board their feedback regarding the control steps we have taken. You will see stricter measures in place around the ground from today. There will be 10 covid compliance officers, in hi-viz vests, in strategic positions around the ground. They have full authority to deal with covid non-compliance in any way they see fit. We must be compliant, not complacent.. If you are able to volunteer for the club on a regular basis or even just occasionally please speak to a committee member. We are always grateful for extra support.

Match Report Tuesday 20th October 2020 Spartan South Midlands Premier Division Tring Athletic 3-1 London Colney The battle between the bottom two teams in this Division was never going to be pretty. Our opponents had arrived on the back of a resounding defeat last Saturday, while we were pointless and the periods when we had looked up to the required standard, were getting shorter and shorter in recent games. There was no lack of commitment from the 28 players involved but the moments of genuine quality were few and far between. Our trump card was produced by Physio Richard Smith who cajoled, encouraged and convinced Tring old boy Connor Smith to play. London Colney playing down the slope started quickly and has a reasonable chance in the first minute and then were given a free header from a corner which fortunately cleared the bar. There was some quality in their long passes and having forced a number of corners they were awarded a penalty on 15 mins after a rash challenge by Gareth Terblanche. Custodian David Saunders pulled off an excellent save to his right and it looked like Lady Luck had decided to at least grin if not smile. However within 10 mins a strike from 25 yards flew in the top right hand corner giving our visitors the lead. For the next 10 mins we battled and scrapped to get back in the game and on 40 mins a well delivered Will Foley corner resulted in Connor Smith hitting the post and Joe Naylor followed up to equalise. For once we managed to get through on level times to half time. The second period carried on in a helter skelter fashion and despite wanting to "get the ball down and play" it was understandable that the season to date had its effect on the side. As ever it is impossible to criticise the effort and commitment and on 70 another expertly placed Will Foley corner resulted in James Butler rising highest in the box and planting a header back across goal. A Colney defender tried to clear off the line, possibly with the use of his arm, but it only fell to Connor Smith who fired in from close range.

Match Report For 15 mins the two teams went toe to toe and their forwards were a handful. On 84 mins Connor Smith, having missed an easy chance after a mazy run, smashed a ball in from 30 yds. This was a great reward for a player who battled and lead the line well for the entire 93 minutes. For once we managed to see the game out to register our first win. Difficult to pick out individuals and at last most players achieved 7 out of 10 but although our scorer got the MOM award ,Harrison Cornick must have run him a close second but all 14 players and our supporters who were there in good numbers did their bit. Team David Saunders, Paolo Bagatti, Keven Mcmanus (Will Salmon) James Butler, Gareth Terblanche, Joe Chott (Prince Nimoh) Harrison Cornick, Will Foley, Joe Naylor (A.Bryan) Olly Butler, Connor Smith More action pictures from the match can be found by clicking on the picture below and using the password Vp93Qa97

Chairman’s Message This is just a quick summary of my time as Chairman of our wonderful club Tring Athletic. In February 2020 I received a telephone call from Tony Stedman informing me that Howard Wells had stepped down as Chairman and would I be prepared to stand as Chairman. It was explained to me that we had a few problems to overcome which I believe is well documented so no need to go over spilt milk again. I explained at the time I was changing my working practise so it would be my honour to try and help the club to find some stability but it would be a relatively short appointment. With the help of everyone I believe we are on a wonderful new path with floodlights being installed next month and finances in a much better place than they were in February. I always had the intention to stand down when the time was right and I am nominating Bob Winter as my successor for the role and with the help of our really good committee I believe we could not be in better hands. Bob has shown to me he is level headed and will drive the club forward both on and off the field. I intend to stay on as a Committee member and manager of the reserves. I wish to say on record that Tony Stedman has done an amazing job in keeping us afloat with the finances and with our new committee members we are somehow thriving through covid 19 as a club after correcting some decisions we made in the past. Here's to the rest of season results improving and see you all soon. Ian Butler

On This Day—2009 The maxim which states that the ends justify the means could be aptly applied to this game after a solid performance enabled us to pick up 3 points that pushed us up to 4th place in the table. The first half was a non event as both teams found it hard to string many moves together but we improved after the break with goals from Mark Burfoot and Vinnie Iannone clinching a merited victory, our 5th from the last 6 games. There were some good moments in the first half with Mark Burfoot knocking a tantalising ball across the area from a throw which went unclaimed. Later Tony Fields robbed a defender in the area and with colleagues waiting in the middle an opening goal looked on the cards but he delayed just a fraction too long and his pass was cut out. From a sloppy throw we presented Langford with the ball which was knocked across to the far left where Ross Scotney was waiting unmarked. The winger ran towards our area but pulled his shot wide of the far post. Luke Nichol dragged a shot well wide of the goal after a corner was cleared to him then later his namesake Ryan Nichols picked up one of our loose passes and advanced towards our goal, but his shot went straight at Tom Vincent. Mark Burfoot drew a diving save from Langford keeper Scot Walters and Ashley Addison was inches away from connecting with a David Whicker free kick. A long throw presented Mark Burfoot with a shooting opportunity but the big man sent his effort wide. With many of Langfords moves breaking down because the wind was carrying the ball too far, their skipper Adam Pitcairn decided to take matters in hand and make better use of the conditions by striking a good long range shot which Tom Vincent turned over the bar. From the corner Tom spilled the ball as he fell but the danger was quickly cleared. With black storm clouds gathering as the second half got under way we might have thought that this was a bad omen for the next 45 minutes or so. But the sun came out and similarly there was a brighter performance from our players. Ross Scotney had an early opportunity but he over ran the ball and Tom Vincent was out quickly to gather up safely. A goal was desperately needed to lift the game and fortunately it fell to us in the 55th minute. It came from a corner sent over by Danny Gray which Mark Burfoot headed in from close range without any challenge. The Langford manager responded by shuffling his side around, pushing Adam Pitcairn from left back into midfield, moving Ross Scotney back to left back and swapping Gus Stewart from right to left wing. The changes didnt noticeably improve the home sides situation and it was Ashley Addison who went close twice to extending our lead. Firstly he volleyed just over after Tony Fields had nodded back across goal a Danny Gray free kick then he latched onto a Mark Burfoot flick and lobbed the keeper but it just cleared the bar. Again the Langford manager responded this time bringing on Andy Gordon for Mark Whittiker and moving the tall Gus Stewart to centre forward. Phil Casserley also made a substitution, Vinnie Iannone coming on for Danny Gray to join Mark Burfoot up front with Ashley Addison moving to the wing.

Langford 0-2 TAFC In the battle of the substitutes Phil can take the greater satisfaction as within 3 minutes Vinnie Iannone scored a crucial 2nd goal as a result of great play by Matt Myatt. The midfielder is one of the teams unsung heroes, working hard for the side, clearing the danger and protecting the back four. In the 72nd minute he latched onto a loose pass and threaded with great precision a superb pass to Vinnie who held off the defender and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to put us into a commanding 2-0 lead.

Langford pushed forward but we defended very well and gave the opposition very few opportunities to pull a goal back. Tom Vincent had to punch a difficult cross off the top of the lanky Gus Stewarts head and later he scrambled across his goal to make a save from a free kick but he wasnt called upon to make use of his considerable talents. In fact he nearly turned provider on 2 occasions with his long clearances. Firstly he sent Mark Burfoot through to lob the keeper but Steve Starling did well to get back and prevent a 3rd goal. Then Darren Franklin nearly benefited as he bore down on goal, but he fell and his pained expression suggests he felt he was pushed from behind. Darren had come on for Mark Burfoot and it was good to see him back in action after missing 7 games. There were a couple of moments of danger, Ross Scotney hitting a shot well wide from a corner and Lee Pateman would have latched onto a well struck free kick had Steve Smith, who had another great game, not read the situation and cleared the ball. There was one unfortunately incident which seemed totally out of keeping in what had been a very clean game when Langfords big centre back Gary Watts took out Ashley Addison with a terrible tackle and rightly got red carded. The last word went to Ashley whose shot went well over and the final score remained 2-0. TA:Tom Vincent, Dave Salmon, Rob Duncan, Graham Hall (Capt), Steve Smith, Matt Myatt, Tony Fields, David Whicker, Mark Burfoot (Darren Franklin 70), Ashley Addison, Danny Gray (Vinnie Iannone 69). Subs not used: Keith Eldridge, Henry Thomas
