Chairmans Message Howard’s Way The Chairman Reflects

Another season – new challenges. We were disappointed that for personal reasons, Ian Richardson could not continue as First Team Manager, but welcome Kevin Christou and his new coaching team and are pleased that Stuart Stedman provides continuity from last season. We have been working on sponsorship with The Home Office, supporting the First Team, NP Electrics remaining with the Reserves and Machins Solicitors supporting our junior teams. Greenfleets, which have been long term supporters of the Club, will be providing different levels of sponsorship. Our website is being revamped and the match day programme will be on line, with a sponsored team sheet being offered on match days. This will be available at the turnstile on match days. Our plan is to open an online shop with various items of memorabilia and clothing available. We are now offering free membership this season, to encourage more junior and family members. Existing members will be deemed as “Voting Members” and new ones this season, “Social Members”. We are still moving forward with facility projects, the first of which will be to improve the floodlights. We are planning to have matches filmed and highlights used to create a You Tube Channel. We enjoyed having a match day commentary against Chesham United and we intend to do more of this. Bear in mind this season, the communal car park is being professionally managed by CPM Ltd. Please note the new signs! All this is about a continuous programme of improvement, to make theTring Athletic experience a fun and enjoyable one for Members and families.

Howard Wells OBE Chairman

Match Report FRIENDLY - Saturday 20th July 2019

Report by Matthew Keys

Tring Athletic 0 - 3 Chesham Utd A pre-season friendly between Tring and Chesham took place on a warm Saturday afternoon at The Grass Roots Stadium. A minutes silence was held for Cheshams Matt Sinclair who sadly passed away this week. Trings first chance almost led to an own goal when a great cross from Lowen caused panic in the Chesham defence with the centre back just heading wide of his own goal. The resulting corner was well taken by Chesham keeper Laurencin. Despite this chance for Tring, Chesham remained in control and almost took the lead after a mazy run into the box was poorly finished by Chesham winger Wynter. The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute after a poor pass out of the back allowed Chesham to break and a good through ball led to a cool finish from Wynter, opening his body out and slotting the ball into the bottom right hand corner. Chesham thought they had doubled their lead from a quick free kick, however it was too quick for the referees liking. Tring were then forced into an early change with Fletcher going off with what looked like a muscular injury. Fletcher was replaced by OHalem. Tring had to be on high alert at the back, with Chesham continuing to pile on the pressure and this was seen when Wynter cut the ball back to Clayton whose goal bound shot was blocked by Lovell. Tring managed to find a bit more going forward with both captain Mitchell and Dash having efforts go close with Dash forcing the Laurencin into a good save. However, just before half time an error from substitute OHalem gifted the ball to Cheshams Clayton who slotted the ball calmly past Mann. At half-time Chesham went in 2-0 up having been on top for the majority of the game and Tring struggling to get a foothold in the game. There were changes made by both sides for the start of the second half but Chesham still started on the front foot and two subs Adcock and Martin linked up but a brilliant save from Mann onto the post kept the score a 2-0. The resulting corner was taken short and a cross shot was deflected wide by Tring. The initial corner was cleared but Clayton volleyed the ball and bought another great save from Mann. Again Tring attempted to get back into the game and a cross from Lowen was inches from finding the head of substitute Brown. A fierce shot from Lowen briefly had the Chesham keeper worried but went over the bar. Just as Tring were on top, Chesham scored their third with a looping header from Murphy after the initial cross had been headed away from goal. A diving header from Cheshams Jenkins almost made it 4-0 before Tring almost grabbed a consolation after a cross from Brown clipped the top of the bar. Tring pushed for a goal and had a couple of efforts blocked from a dangerous Mitchell free kick. A header from Brown was straight at the keeper, with Chesham going down the other end and having an appeal for a penalty turned down due to a good challenge from OHalom. 3-0 to Chesham was how the game ended, with Tring battling well against a team in a higher division than themselves, but Cheshams class showed through, giving them a comfortable win in the end.

Our Opponents

The History of Colney Heath FC The club was established in 1907 and initially played in the Hatfield District League. After World War I they joined the Mid-Herts League, and their most successful period in the league came after World War II, with the club winning the Division One and Premier Division titles, as well as the Mid Herts Benevolent Shield (twice) and the Bingham Cox Cup. In 1953 the club moved up to Division Two of the Hertfordshire Senior County League, which they won at the first attempt to earn promotion to Division One. In 1955 the club were placed in Division One A as the league was reorganised; they went on to win the division in 1955–56 and were placed in the new Premier Division for the following season.[3] In 1958–59 they were Premier Division champions, and the following season saw them win both the Aubrey Cup and the Hertfordshire Intermediate Cup. In 1965–66 Colney Heath finished second-from-bottom of the Premier Division and were relegated back to Division One. They were relegated again at the end of the 1968–69 season, returning to Division Two. Another relegation in 1975– 76 saw them playing in Division Three. However, after finishing as runners-up in 1979–80 the club were promoted back to Division Two. A fourth-place finish in 1983–84 was enough to see them promoted to Division One, and after finishing third in Division One in 1985–86, they returned to the Premier Division. Their first season back in the Premier Division ended in relegation to Division One, but the club were Division One champions in 1988–89, earning promotion back to the Premier Division. In 1995–96 they won the Hertfordshire Senior Centenary Trophy, which they retained the following season. The 1999–2000 season saw Colney Heath win the Premier Division of the Hertfordshire Senior County League, resulting in promotion to the Senior Division of the Spartan South Midlands League, which was renamed Division One in 2001.

They were Division One champions in 2005–06, earning promotion to the Premier Division. In 2010–11 the club won the Premier Division Cup. They won the Hertfordshire Charity Shield in 2013–14 and again in 2017–18.
