Herts Sports Partnership Service to Sport Awards 2019 Congratulations to Dave Stacey on his well deserved success at the recent Herts Sports Partnership awards ceremony. A fantastic acknowledgement of all the hard work that Dave has put into the club over the years.
Chairmans Message Howard’s Way The Chairman Reflects Between 1975 and 1981 I worked part-time as a Senior Coach of the Football Association, helping to run Coaches’ Courses. That work took me all over the country and in 1979 I was asked to run a Preliminary Badge course (equivalent of the current “B” Licence) in Galway, Ireland. At the end of the first session, I told the group that we would finish off with a few minutes of ball juggling. I said to one of the candidates! Adrian Walsh, that he should be in the Guinness Book of Records, knowing that he was already. Aged 35, Adrian had accomplished 26,000 repetitions. He is now 75 and has developed a project encouraging two-footedness in the Game, irritated as we both are by pundits who say that a player was on his weaker foot. Harry Kane is the epitome of two footedness as his scoring and assists record shows. At 65, Adrian broke the record for that age with 16,000 repetitions. He has worked with Pele, Beckenbauer and Cruyff. Following the course in Galway, I arranged for Adrian to provide half-time entertainment at several Football League grounds. Fred Callaghan, then the Brentford Manager invited Adrian down to join Friday training, introducing him as an Irish triallist, although he was 36 at the time! Fred, being Fred finished the session with ball juggling and for fun put £10 “ on the Irish lad”. Barry Silkman managed 490 repetitions and when he reached that number, Adrian dropped into the press up position and bounced the ball between his shoulders, behind his head. The players realised they had been taken for a ride! I am planning to bring Adrian to the Club at the end of the season to demonstrate two-footedness for local coaches. Check him out on You Tube “Mr Ball Boy”.

MATCH REPORT TRING ATHLETIC FC 5 - 1 LONDON COLNEY FC
FIVE STAR, FIVE GOAL FIRST HALF FLOORS COLNEY High quality football, composure, organisation and clinical finishing were the hallmarks of our first half display. London Colney were taken apart as we blitzed them with an attacking display which, if we can carry it through to the end of the season, will have our title contenders severely worried. It is always good news when your strikers get amongst the goals, as this is their job and what they are in the team to do. So, two goals for Max Mitchell, two for Marcus Melling and one for Terry Dixon mean we have an in-form strike force with goals in their locker. The goals. A penalty converted by Max on 15 minutes after Luke Dunstan had been brought down, a second simple header for Max from a Jay Lovell free kick on 16, Marcus opens his account for the day on 20 from a Max cross, Terry crashes home from a Max pass after 41, and Marcus finishes off the scoring in the first half. 5 goals in 30 minutes and I won the 50/50! Perfect! Well, not quite perfect because we had the disappointment of Jays dismissal just before the break. This is our 5th sending off this season. These dismissals hurt us because, not only is there an impact on the match in question, but the player misses three subsequent matches due to suspension. We cant afford to have such a talented player as Jay sitting in the stand watching the season go by without being involved. The less said about the second half the better. It is difficult to get fired up when the match is over as a contest and we lost our zip and, in all honesty, our hunger. No doubt the Colney half time team talk went something along the lines of Lets go out there and recover some pride. Lets win the second half and they did just that, converting a late penalty for the only goal of the half, and deserve credit for not buckling under. The strength of our bench is an indication of the talented squad we have. Two tough matches await us this week, playing step 4 club Welwyn Garden city in the County Cup on Tuesday and third place Newport Pagnell on Saturday. This time next week we will have a clearer indication as to just how good we are. Come on boys! Team: C Mann, B Johnson, J Sunderland, J Lovell, T Fletcher, P Lowen, L Dunstan (K Turner 60), D Ferrigno (M Rickman 62), M Mitchell (J Carter 55), M Melling, T Dixon.
