Tring Athletic v Newport Pagnell Town 7.45pm - Tuesday 5th November 2019 Premier Division Cup
Chairmans Message Howard’s Way The Chairman Reflects I am disappointed to be missing tonight’s match. The weather begins to take its toll of matches at this time of year and congratulations to Darrell Bodimeade, our groundsman for producing a pitch on Saturday which allowed the match to go ahead. Some you will have watched.matches in the Rugby World Cup In Japan. Sports do need to learn from one another and it was interesting to note how much more effective the VAR system is being applied in rugby, by referring to the monitor available to the 4th Official. One of our leading exreferees in football, Keith Hackett.has, of late, been advocating that more should be made of the monitor, available to the 4th Official When I was CEO of the Irish Football Association for four years up to 2008, I was a member of the international Football Association Board, which together with the Welsh, English and Scots and FIFA, determines the Laws of the Game. That group decided in 2005 to introduce goal-line technology. It actually took until 2014 for it to be implemented, which is indicative of the resistance to change in sport, of which football is not an exception. At our level of the Game we do not have the luxury of such technology. I try to impress on coaches that referees generally make fewer mistakes than the players and it makes no sense to berate them. In Rugby Union at most levels referees explain their decisions to the players and my observation is that players respect that. At the International level, these comments are clearly audible during matches which are broadcast. It seems to take the sting from tense moments Football has a way to go in improving the respect shown to Officials.

Match Report Sat 2nd November 2019 Spartan South Midlands Premier Division
TAFC 4 - 1 Broadfields Utd MATCH REPORT
DEAD BALL DOUBLE SETS US UP NICELY Converting from promising dead ball situations is an important weapon to possess and we are very fortunate that we have such a weapon in the name of MaT Mitchell. Twice he placed the ball around the arc just outside the arc of the penalty area and twice the opposition keeper was immobile as the ball settled in to the back of the net. Looks easy? Well, it isnt! These two strikes, one as early as the 5th minute and the other mid-way through the first half gave us a tight grip on this game which we never looked like losing. With suspensions, injuries and other absences we were a little light on the ground but it gave an opportunity for players to come in and show their metal. They didnt disappoint. Frankie Hercules was busy and heavily involved, until he tired later in the game, Cameron Brooks came in at left back which I suspect is not his preferred position but was solid in defence and always willing to push forward, and Euan Anderson made his debut as a late substitute and looked perfectly at home at this level. It was great to read captain Mitchells tweet praising the younger players for their contribution to this win. In an earlier match report I recall saying that the club with the best squad, rather than the best first eleven, will win the league and so we look in good shape to do just that. On the subject of the title race, despite a poor October, we remain six points clear, although of course Colney Heath have games in hand. It is a great place to be. Before the match, Tommy Fletcher was deservedly presented with the October Player of the Month award and he gave another stellar performance today. Given the amount of rain that had fallen, the pitch was in decent condition. Rain fell pretty much throughout the afternoon which made good football difficult and watching even tougher. In the circumstances we passed the ball around well. Only the woodwork prevented Mat from notching a first half hat trick and, in truth, we should have been out of sight at half time, rather than merely two goals to the good. The second half was lit up by Frazer John turning on the turbo charge button twice more of this please Fraser. His first explosion of pace down the left resulted in Oran Swales converting for our third. His second almost brought another goal. The fourth did come, in the 85 minute, shortly after Broadfields had reduced the arrears, with a neat finish by Oran, and it is good to see him back in the goals. A difficult fixture awaits us on Tuesday against Newport Pagnell in the premier division cup when it will be interesting to gauge the strength of one of our title challengers.

Newport Pagnell Town FC - HISTORY
Newport Pagnell Town Football Club was founded in 1963, initially as Newport Pagnell Wanderers, playing on Bury Field Common. In 1964 they entered the North Bucks League and won Division 3 in their first season. Soon after that they won the Division 2 and Division 1 titles in consecutive years. In the 1971-72 season the Wanderers joined the South Midlands League, playing at the Youth Club in Wolverton Road. In 1972 the club moved to the new facilities at the Willen Road Sports Ground and changed its name to Newport Pagnell Town. In the 1973-74 season Newport Pagnell Town joined Division 2 of the United Counties League. Two years later they were promoted to Division 1. They won the Division 1 Championship in 1981-82 and were promoted to the Premier Division. A few ups and downs followed during the next two decades: relegated in 1985-86, promoted back to the Premier Division in 1991-92, and then relegated again in 1996-97. The club won the Division 1 Championship again in 2001-02 and has been in the Premier Division ever since. In 2009-10 and again in 2010-11 the club won the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy. The best FA Cup achievement was reaching the Second Qualifying Round in 2008-09. In the 2016-17 season the club reached the last 8 of the FA Vase before losing to a strong South Shields team (the eventual winners of the competition) in front of more than 3000 spectators on Tyneside. In recognition of this achievement the club was presented with a Town Award by Newport Pagnell Town Council, and in the Milton Keynes Sports Achiever of the Year 2017 awards Newport Pagnell Town Football Club’s first team received the Team of the Year award. A further award in 2017 was a Berks & Bucks FA award to the club chairman, Steve Handley, for his contribution to grassroots football. In 2017-18 the club finished third in the UCL Premier Division, missing out on promotion by just three points. A good season for the youth section included winning the Berks & Bucks Under 15 county cup and also a very encouraging season for the club's first girls team, the Under 12 Swans. From small beginnings in 1963, Newport Pagnell Town has become the highest placed non-league club in the Milton Keynes area, and is a FA Charter Standard Community Club, with a youth section of around 30 teams in addition to its senior first and reserve teams and a successful Sunday team.
