Chairmans Message Howard’s Way The Chairman Reflects In welcoming our visitors this evening, I must firstly apologise that floodlight failure caused them a wasted trip two weeks’ ago. Our supporters are aware that replacing the floodlights is critical and planning permission is currently being sought. I read with interest this week that Everton Football Club has plans to build a new stadium. Hooray! In 1998, I turned down the opportunity of becoming that Club’s chief executive, mainly because I thought then that its plans to build a new stadium were ”pie in the sky”. I opted instead, to join Watford FC, mainly because Graham Taylor convinced me that it would be a good move. Whilst the Club reached the Premier League the following season, beating Bolton Wanderers in the play-Off final at Wembley, I realised after a few months that it was not the challenge I needed, nor was it a great decision! I moved on to Ipswich Town and yet another successful play off final against Barnsley. The situation at Everton FC is interesting. It highlights how dependent Clubs at that level are on television revenue. It also raises the question about gambling and betting companies being involved in football sponsorship. Personally, I think the two are incompatible, especially as we are trying to encourage more young people to be interested in the Game.
A recent debate with which I was involved was entitled “Are E-Sports aiming to ambush the mainstream of spirt?” Aiming too? They have already done it. Again, they are intrinsically linked with gambling and betting. It is a rocky road, but when one reads of the money being made by teenagers in E-Sports, it is difficult to argue that it is a bad thing. Will live football being played in front of virtual audiences in twenty five years? Time will tell!

Match Report Sat 16th November 2019 Spartan South Midlands Premier Division
TRING ATHLETIC 1- 2 LEIGHTON TOWN Match Report
MASH AND GRAB RAID COMMITTED IN HERTFORDSHIRE POLICE SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTS IN DEEPEST BEDFORDSHIRE Sunday morning is a time for calm reflection. I am over the disappointment of defeat; I am over the fact that we had 20 decent chances, they had two; I am over the pain of losing to our noisy neighbours. I am reflecting now on a match that was a credit to step 5 football; a credit to all players and management involved; a credit to the Spartan Football League. The match was high quality, competitive but played in the right way with hardly a bad foul in sight and I am not sure how Mr Trinder managed to caution so many players. Give us a break, officials. Fittingly, the match was won with a stunning piece of skill a free kick smashed home from 20 yards by Danny Webb without the net to stop the ball it was hit with such velocity that it would have reached our top pitch before it came down to earth. How often do we report that the man of the match was the opposition keeper? Well, it was the case again yesterday as Dan Benney produced save after save. But guys, we should have been more clinical and taken this game away from Leighton way before their winning goal. From our side, Kieran Turner stood out, prompting, probing, enticing he was back to his best. It was great also get Jay Lovell back in the back four, providing us with a steely presence which we have missed during his four-match absence. Our goal was the result of some beautiful one-touch football and perhaps we have lost our way in recent weeks in this respect as a neat, short-passing game in the final third unlocked defences at will in our better performances earlier in the season. Max Mitchell finished the move off and is accumulating a decent number of goals scored so far. Can you get us 30 Max I think so.
We walked off at the end, licking our wounds and gritting our teeth at the celebrations in the opposition changing rooms. But this is what happens when you bring down the table toppers. Keep going lads. It must feel as though lady luck is not smiling on us but it will even itself out by the end of the season. There is a long way to go. Newport Pagnell Town FC - HISTORY
Newport Pagnell Town Football Club was founded in 1963, initially as Newport Pagnell Wanderers, playing on Bury Field Common. In 1964 they entered the North Bucks League and won Division 3 in their first season. Soon after that they won the Division 2 and Division 1 titles in consecutive years. In the 1971-72 season the Wanderers joined the South Midlands League, playing at the Youth Club in Wolverton Road. In 1972 the club moved to the new facilities at the Willen Road Sports Ground and changed its name to Newport Pagnell Town. In the 1973-74 season Newport Pagnell Town joined Division 2 of the United Counties League. Two years later they were promoted to Division 1. They won the Division 1 Championship in 1981-82 and were promoted to the Premier Division. A few ups and downs followed during the next two decades: relegated in 1985-86, promoted back to the Premier Division in 1991-92, and then relegated again in 1996-97. The club won the Division 1 Championship again in 2001-02 and has been in the Premier Division ever since. In 2009-10 and again in 2010-11 the club won the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy. The best FA Cup achievement was reaching the Second Qualifying Round in 2008-09. In the 2016-17 season the club reached the last 8 of the FA Vase before losing to a strong South Shields team (the eventual winners of the competition) in front of more than 3000 spectators on Tyneside. In recognition of this achievement the club was presented with a Town Award by Newport Pagnell Town Council, and in the Milton Keynes Sports Achiever of the Year 2017 awards Newport Pagnell Town Football Club’s first team received the Team of the Year award. A further award in 2017 was a Berks & Bucks FA award to the club chairman, Steve Handley, for his contribution to grassroots football. In 2017-18 the club finished third in the UCL Premier Division, missing out on promotion by just three points. A good season for the youth section included winning the Berks & Bucks Under 15 county cup and also a very encouraging season for the club's first girls team, the Under 12 Swans. From small beginnings in 1963, Newport Pagnell Town has become the highest placed non-league club in the Milton Keynes area, and is a FA Charter Standard Community Club, with a youth section of around 30 teams in addition to its senior first and reserve teams and a successful Sunday team.
