Beรกta Tringer Fine art project

I wanted to solve an emotional problem with an object. Lately, I was thinking too much about the fact that I don’t have a mirror in my room. It made me think too many times and I found it interesting. I collected artworks as inspiration which are twisting out the function of a mirror. I aimed to translate this theme to my language, so i decided to work with carpet weaving. In this case, as a wall hanging. I did research on superstitions and ancient beliefs regarding mirrors. It is often referred as a picture of our soul. Buddhists believed that mirror is life reflected by light. Celtic women were buried with their mirror, so they’ll have an imprint of their soul. I do experience something similar that ancient beliefs refer to – the feeling that a mirrors trap souls – while working on this piece, since my chosen technique is the slowest weaving technique. My soul is for sure woven into it. During this process one experiences how different it is from painting or drawing. You can’t just do it when you feel inspired to do so. This project required hours and hours of work even when I hated, loved, got bored or had second thoughts about it again and again. Using different techniques gave me the opportunity to play with the surface of the artwork. Weather it breaks the light or catches it. Changing convex and settle parts I was able to create the inner space of a mirror. By aiming to represent (self) reflection, the most important part was to achieve reflection of colours. This piece is reacting differently by the changes of variety of light and colours.
