URBAN CINEMATHEQUE MIAMI • FLORIDA

The Urban Cinema is a medium scaled-movie house located in Downtown Miami. Main concept was to maintain the existing street edge of the urban conditions in downtown miami by placing the two theaters on opposite ends, creating a main axis that connects the two. Programmatic elements are organize along that axis creating a central circulation for the cinema. Open air circulation is used since temperatures are comfortable most of the year allowing for natural ventilation through outdoor spaces. Also, the cinema forms an outdoor performance space and garden that can be use for the public. The third floor contains program for administrative activity. The second floor contains both theaters, with two lounge areas. The first floor has a bookstore with a cafe , and media library with classrooms.

BUILDING FORM

THE MAIN CONCEPT WAS TO MAINTAIN THE STREET EDGE IN THE URBAN CONDITIONS OF DOWNTOWN MIAMI; THE PROGRAMMATIC ELEMENTS OF THE THEATER ARE ORGANIZED ALONG THE CIRCULATION PATH THAT CONNECTS THE TWO THEATER SPACES.
