A Message from the Head of School Dear Trinity Community, With my first year at Trinity under my belt, I continue to be inspired and humbled by the extraordinary generosity of this community. The strong commitment to this School and to our mission is unwavering. I have learned that year after year, this community demonstrates support for the students, the teachers, and the families of Trinity through an abundance of philanthropic donations.
The names of individuals listed in this report testify to the dedication of the Trinity community. Because of you—your generosity, your belief in the School, your passion for what we do—we can inspire our students to thrive. Your support enables us to attract, retain, and develop the country’s best educators; support qualified students with financial assistance; and ensure that our learning spaces are appropriate for the Information Age, preparing our students for success beyond our campus gates. For that, I thank you again. Trinity is a devoted community motivated by a responsibility to children, and together we have accomplished something remarkable. I am grateful for each person who chose to make a gift to Trinity last year. This is an outstanding school, one of the nation’s best, to a great extent due to the loyalty and generosity of our community. We deeply appreciate your support. Sincerely,
2013-2014 REPORT ON PHILANTHROPY
The 2013-14 school year proved to be no different. The community’s support was steadfast as we went public with the first comprehensive campaign in over a decade, Growing Leaders: A Campaign for Trinity. To all of the Trinity parents, alumni, Trustees, parents of alumni, grandparents, students, faculty, staff, and friends who chose to invest in the mission of the School, I say thank you. Your support is a strong vote of confidence in the work we do, and Trinity would not be what it is today without the commitment of our families and friends.
Joseph P. Marshall Head of School
Statement of Philosophy
Mission Statement
Trinity School is an independent co-educational school serving preschool and elementary age children. Founded in 1951 by Trinity Presbyterian Church and grounded in the ethical framework of the Christian faith and its Jewish heritage, Trinity accepts children of diverse backgrounds and provides experiences that foster mutual respect, trust, and cooperation among students, faculty, and parents.
The mission of Trinity School is to create a community of learners in which each child can acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to achieve his or her unique potential and become a responsible, productive, and compassionate member of the expanding global community.
1
A Message from the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Trinity is an outstanding elementary school with a reputation for excellence and a community defined by its generous spirit. Last year, it was clear that the commitment to providing an exceptional elementary education remains a priority within our community. As a member of the Board of Trustees, let me assure you that the Board and the School’s administration are deeply committed to leading Trinity with strength and a firm obligation to advancing the School’s mission for our students, faculty, and community.
2013-2014 REPORT ON PHILANTHROPY
Due to the support of countless people for more than 60 years, Trinity has an extremely solid and strong foundation. The School also has a clear and inspiring vision for the future. With your support, we are poised to move forward powerfully into the Information Age. Everything we do is designed to help children flourish. We all believe that enabling our students to achieve their unique potential is important work, and this important work requires significant investment. On behalf of the Board, I extend heartfelt gratitude for your remarkable generosity. During the 2013-14 school year, the Trinity Fund raised more than $1,000,000 for the second year in a row. Spotlight on Art had an incredibly successful year raising $524,000 in unrestricted operating support. As part of the Growing Leaders campaign, capital and endowment gifts totaled more than $1,500,000. Your gifts, and belief in Trinity School, allow us to dream big—to passionately focus on pushing beyond limits to help each of our 642 students grow into inspiring young people who will lead and show the way for all of us. Thank you for all that you do for Trinity School. Your partnership is critical to our ability to fulfill our mission. I look forward to working with you this year to make Trinity an even stronger school for our students. Sincerely,
F. Weldon Baird Chairman, Board of Trustees

Growing Leaders: A Campaign for Trinity
4
In January, Trinity School went public with Growing Leaders: A Campaign for Trinity, a comprehensive campaign which seeks to secure a minimum of $15 million in gifts and pledges to grow the School’s endowment, provide for capital improvements, including the Trinity Learning Commons and the Trinity Track, and strengthen annual giving to The Trinity Fund. With the leadership of Campaign Chairs, Michelle Fuller, Alex Simmons, and Neal Sumter, and our dedicated team of Campaign Grade Captains, Trinity has raised more than $10 million, or 67 percent of our Growing Leaders campaign goal. We remain truly grateful to all those who have supported the campaign as of June 30, 2014. If you are interested in making a commitment to help Trinity meet its campaign goals, please contact Margaret Douglas, Director of Advancement, at 404.240.9446 or mdouglas@trinityatl.org.

2013-2014 REPORT ON PHILANTHROPY
The long-term strength and stability of Trinity School depends on building a robust endowment to support those elements core to fulfilling our educational mission, specifically our faculty, students, and curriculum. Gifts made through the Growing Leaders campaign in support of endowment allow Trinity to offer competitive salaries to attract and retain the nation’s best teachers, provide resources to outstanding students so that they may take advantage of the full spectrum of the Trinity Experience, and to upgrade curriculum to prepare students for success in the Information Age. As of June 30, 2014, campaign gifts to endowment totaled $3,396,700 or 68 percent of our $5 million goal.

2013-2014 REPORT ON PHILANTHROPY
In order to promote the development of skills and knowledge required in the Information Age, Trinity School needs large, centrally located, flexible spaces for students, faculty, and parents to work individually or in groups on projects and presentations. Capital gifts will enable Trinity to modify current learning environments to support critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and communication as well as support key learning techniques including project-based learning, designthinking activities, and experiential learning. Additionally, modifications to the administrative wing and the outdoors will enable us to provide an exceptional experience for our families and students. Unrestricted campaign gifts, which are allocated as needed to the campaign priorities, are critically important as we strive to attract and retain visionary teachers, sculpt a student body that is dynamic and diverse, invigorate our curriculum to create powerful thinkers, and maximize learning environments to inspire and promote the development of skills needed for success in the Information Age. Due to the generosity of the donors listed here, unrestricted gifts and gifts to capital enhancements total $2,310,000.

2013-2014 REPORT ON PHILANTHROPY
This year, as a critical part of the Growing Leaders campaign, The Trinity Fund supported approximately six percent of the School’s operating budget. These unrestricted, flexible funds have a direct bearing on the quality of a Trinity education, making The Trinity Fund the number one financial priority each year. Competitive faculty salaries, excellent arts and technology resources, new initiatives in curricular innovation, and a healthy financial aid program are but a few of the budgeted areas that make the Trinity Experience exceptional. With only 76 percent of Trinity School’s annual operating needs covered by tuition, philanthropic giving helps close the gap, providing the School with a margin of excellence that enables us to offer one of the finest elementary educational experiences in the country. John Fuller, Trinity Fund Chair, and his extraordinary team comprised of nearly 100 volunteers raised more than $1,045,000 for the 2013-14 Trinity Fund, the most in the School’s history.

The Gates Leadership Society
14
The Gates Leadership Society is central to the success of The Trinity Fund. The Gates Society is named for the landmark front gates which mark the entrance to Trinity School’s campus and symbolize the joy and wonder of young children engaged in dynamic learning. Honoring those who support Trinity at such a generous level and who, through their leadership gifts, ensure that Trinity students receive the best possible education year to year, The Gates Society recognizes donors who make annual gifts to the School at the $2,500 level and above. During the 2013-14 school year, donations to The Trinity Fund from Gates Society members amounted to more than $770,000 representing 74 percent of total dollars raised. Leadership gifts make an important difference in our ability to provide an outstanding elementary education year after year. During the 2013-14 fiscal year, 188 donors joined The Gates Leadership Society by making a gift of $2,500 or more, representing a 4.4 percent increase over the previous year.

Why We Support Trinity School: The McMullan Family
16
Jack ’19, William, Catherine, Ted, Madeline, Buckley ‘23
The full Trinity program is not supported 100 percent by tuition, so The Trinity
Fund and endowments cover that critical gap. Teacher training and professional development, field trips, and outstanding facilities and technology have greatly enhanced our children’s education. We support The Trinity Fund and Growing Leaders: A Campaign for Trinity not only to help fill the gap for our sons, but also to ensure that this benefit is available for all Trinity students, teachers, and the community at large. When Trinity began Growing Leaders, Jack and Buckley were just beginning their studies at Trinity. We knew that the campaign goals would give Trinity more solid financial footing for our years ahead here. Endowments are critical for students and faculty to thrive and grow, while physical plant improvements make an immediate positive impact on children, teachers, staff, and parents. The School’s leadership promoted the importance of and need for program enhancements,
endowments, and capital improvements to continue the unique Trinity experience. Now we are beginning to see growing support and appreciation for what the School has done for Trinity families. Trinity continues to enhance our children’s learning each day. Because of this commitment, we remain strongly rooted in the Trinity community that rallies around its important mission. Others believe it too, and we see it every day in carpool, on the new track, and inside the classroom. - Catherine and Ted McMullan
2013-2014 REPORT ON PHILANTHROPY
Trinity has captured our attention because of the School’s ability to create a holistic experience for our children – Jack (’19) and Buckley (’23) – in their early years. By offering elementary-only education, Trinity’s faculty and staff have been able to focus on making a difference in our sons’ early development and learning. When we originally looked at Trinity and other independent schools, the Trinity difference was the extended programs offerings that rounded out the curriculum. Since then, our family has benefited from all that Trinity has to offer. In addition to participating in Jack’s and Buckley’s classrooms, we also enjoy our involvement in the greater Trinity community. In just a few short years, Trinity has become dear to our family because of the friends we have made and the opportunities our children have had to develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

Grade Captains and Class Callers
Under the leadership of the Parent Fund Chairs, Grade Captains and Class Callers encourage participation and serve as the first point of contact for any questions regarding the Parent Fund. Grade Captains, in addition to working with Leadership Circle donors, oversee Class Callers, ensuring that they receive the information and support necessary to perform successfully. Historically, the Parent Fund has provided between 75 and 80 percent of the overall Trinity Fund. These funds are critical in terms of maintaining the level of educational excellence for which Trinity is known and would not be possible without the dedication and commitment from such talented volunteers.

TRINITY PARENTS HELPED TO MAKE THE 2013-14 TRINITY FUND A GREAT SUCCESS WITH
91% CONTRIBUTING TO THE SCHOOL.
Trinity School would not be what it is today without the inspirational involvement of our parents. From financial contributions and emotional support for our students to the countless hours of volunteered time on projects ranging from Grand Day to Room Parent duties, our parents demonstrate their commitment to a Trinity education on a daily basis. This commitment was exemplified by this year’s Parent Fund, as it has been in years past. Led by Parent Fund Chairs Tara and Matt Bartelt, volunteers set the bar high when they raised contributions for the 2013-14 Parent Fund totaling $767,796.

2013-2014 Alumni Board
For many Trinity alumni, their relationship with the School begins at a very early age. Through their generous support of The Trinity Fund, our alumni continue to demonstrate the importance of those early connections and their appreciation for the School and its faculty. Our Alumni Fund makes an important statement about the impact of a Trinity education on the lives of our students.
Fielder Shurling ’82, President
With the leadership of Alumni Fund Chair, David Overend ’86, 188 alums contributed more than $99,000 this year.

Alumni Class Agents
Trinity School seeks to strengthen its connection with past students by giving them meaningful opportunities to stay connected with former classmates, teachers, and friends. The School depends on loyal alumni to act as Class Agents who serve as a conduit for information between the School and their class as well as among their classmates. They gather current contact information and news and also encourage class participation in the Alumni Fund. If you would like to serve as a Trinity Class Agent, please contact Alice Trahant, Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events, at 404.231.8119 or atrahant@trinityatl.org.

The 21st Century Leadership Society was created in 2009-10 to recognize young alumni (Sixth Grade through Seniors in high school) who make a gift to the Alumni Fund. Their pledge of support demonstrates a strong commitment to their first alma mater and offers a tangible way to ensure the traditions and excellence associated with their own Trinity Experience are available to current and future students as well. We are grateful and inspired by these young leaders. Their generosity sets a wonderful example for us all to follow!

One of the hallmarks of a Trinity education is the strong sense of community that envelops our students each day. Grandparents, great grandparents, and alumni grandparents play an essential role in the lives of Trinity students. Whether through participation in Grand Day, attending School to have lunch with their grandchild, or simply through the values our Grands help instill, grandparent support for The Trinity Fund sends an important message to our students that the Trinity community extends beyond the campus gates. Under the remarkable leadership of Grandparent Fund Chairs Tricia and Inman Allen, our grandparents, great grandparents, and alumni grandparents contributed $127,875 to the 2013-14 Trinity Fund. We are so grateful for our Grands!
Grandchildren who were enrolled at Trinity in the 2013-14 academic year are listed with their grandparents.

Why We Support Trinity School: The Pham Family
28
Robert, Deanna, Sophia ’20, Owen ‘22
As we continue our partnership with Trinity, philanthropy and a giving spirit are core principles in which we believe and want to instill in our children. We consider a gift to Trinity an investment in our children, which benefits them both now and in the years to come. Financial support of Trinity is vital not only for the bricks and mortar
infrastructure, but also for the talented educators and administrators who care for and teach our children every day. While the School’s commitment to its core foundations remains steadfast, the traditional notions of how to best educate children are constantly being examined and challenged by Trinity faculty. Knowing that the community values them, teachers are able to ask probing questions about their processes and formulate original, and sometimes, daring solutions. Trinity has grown well beyond the sterile didactic lectures in beige painted cinder block classroom walls that we experienced more than 30 years ago. The new Learning Commons is already highly anticipated among our children and their classmates. This dynamic facility is a new solution to learning with flexible space that will facilitate a provocative atmosphere for our students as they experiment with traditional and nontraditional learning methods. Trinity has already worked to change its curriculum to meet the needs of our changing local and global communities. These adaptations will prepare our children to be socially responsible leaders in this new environment.
Growing Leaders has already begun to produce immeasurable results for the Trinity community and our children. As a Trinity partner, we are thankful for the generosity of the families who came before us, from which our children now benefit. We continue in this tradition as we confidently invest in our partner not only for our children, but the countless children who will enter this community in the years to come. In today’s environment of limited resources and a myriad of worthy causes, Trinity remains our top charitable priority. A gift to Trinity is ultimately an investment in all Trinity kids. With our support, Trinity will continue to hold its place at the forefront of elementary education and strengthen its partnerships with all families, as tentative toddlers are transformed into future leaders. - Deanna and Robert Pham
2013-2014 REPORT ON PHILANTHROPY
Trinity became our family’s partner in our children’s development when we arrived on campus three years ago to drop Sophia (’20) off for her first day of school. Since that first carpool line, our relationship with Trinity has continued to flourish with Owen (’22) joining his big sister last year in this warm and inclusive environment we have come to cherish. In this time, our entire family has been enveloped into the Trinity community where our children are the focus and lifelong learning is the goal. The School’s tradition and ethos surrounding the elementary student was the differentiator when we chose Trinity. The faculty encourages our children to be risk takers and remain open to new experiences at their young ages, transforming them into confident and inquisitive students. And while Sophia and Owen’s stories and projects wow us every day, we are constantly reminded that the Trinity faculty and staff are the heart of our Trinity partnership.

Why We Support Trinity School: The Black Family
36
Black Family (l to r): Krystl, Gerry, Kelsey, Tommy, Margaux ’00, Marilyn, Jim, James ’94, Sophie ’22, Catherine, T.J. ’22, Kelly, Leah ’18
As parents and grandparents, we believe that there is nothing more important than the development of strong educational, emotional, and social skills in our children so that they are well equipped to enjoy, succeed, and make smart decisions in an increasingly complex world. We know this will require many skills including problem solving, collaboration, self-confidence, and intellectual curiosity. These are all things that Trinity focuses on daily, while preserving each child’s innate love of learning. As our favorite school, it is only fitting that we devote our time and resources to Trinity. It is our belief that preparing children for their
futures by developing key skills and an eagerness to learn and problem solve in early education should have the highest priority. As a family, we have chosen to support both The Trinity Fund and the School’s endowment. The Trinity Fund, the foundation for all fundraising at the School, provides unrestricted funds to support the operating budget, enabling Trinity to continue to offer an extraordinary learning experience for each student. The endowment is also extremely important to us as it supports the School in perpetuity, enhancing the Trinity experience for generations of students. Through our support of endowment for faculty and staff through Growing Leaders: A Campaign for Trinity and the Apollo Grant, which we established in 1999 to support curriculum in science and mathematics, we have provided resources for Trinity to attract and retain inspiring and nurturing educators, to offer modern facilities to support every discipline from performing arts to engineering and robotics, and to host guest speakers in math and science that enrich the students’ overall education with hands-on, real world experiences. Through supporting the endowment, we help the School provide increased opportunities for students that encourage discovery, creativity, and excitement for learning and growth. Expanding the endowment, while also providing for capital needs and increased annual giving, the Growing Leaders campaign is raising capital to ensure the School’s strength for the future. We know it is important for the School, or any organization for that matter, to foster additional capital in order to stay competitive.
For Trinity, attracting and retaining the very best faculty and staff by providing unique opportunities for professional development, as well as compensation and state-of-the-art facilities, is very important in a constantly expanding independent school market place. The world is also becoming increasingly more complex and technology continues to evolve rapidly. We believe that it is important for Trinity to address these changes by providing state-of-the-art facilities and learning tools for the children, teachers, and staff. The Learning Commons is an excellent example of Trinity’s leadership in early education. We are truly excited about the Growing Leaders campaign and the opportunities it will provide for the Trinity community. Trinity will always hold a very special place in our family. The impact the School has had on our children has been remarkable, and we continue to see it in their everyday lives. It is a pleasure to watch our grandchildren thrive in the same environment. The faculty, staff, facilities, and educational and extracurricular opportunities are all intentionally designed to encourage development of the whole child, who leaves Trinity with confidence and passion for the road ahead. How could we not support such a special place that prepares children for the future? We think it is the best investment we could make.
2013-2014 REPORT ON PHILANTHROPY
We love Trinity School. Our relationship with Trinity began with our two youngest children (we have four in total)—James ‘94 and Margaux ‘06. Our children’s experience at Trinity was extremely positive and made a lasting impact while providing a solid platform for success. James and Margaux enjoyed their time at Trinity so much that our older children wished that they could have attended too. In fact, as a family, we have collectively attended more than 20 schools, ranging from small, private preschools to universities, including Georgia Tech, MIT, Duke, University of Virginia, Emory, Wellesley, and Harvard. Still, we unanimously choose Trinity as our favorite! We are so fortunate that our relationship with the School has continued to grow over the years and has deepened now that we have the privilege of watching three grandchildren, Leah in Third Grade, and TJ and Sophie in Pre-K, grow and develop as Trinity students.

Georgia Qualified Education Expense Credit Program In May 2008, the Georgia Legislature passed a bill allowing Georgia taxpayers to redirect a portion of their state tax dollars to benefit eligible, qualified students in need to attend private schools. In partnership with Apogee, our Student Scholarship Organization (SSO), Trinity was grateful to receive more than $150,000 from the program in 2014 in support of our financial aid program. This program offers a wonderful opportunity for taxpayers to have a say in how their tax dollars are used while providing a lifechanging opportunity for qualified students to partake in the Trinity Experience. We extend our sincere gratitude to those families who, beyond their annual support of the School, redirected a portion of their state tax dollars in 2014 to support one of the School’s ongoing and top priorities, our financial aid program. 2014 Participants Bob and Pauletta Atwood Mr. and Mrs. Daniel G.
