Adoration (Aaron Rutter-Instrumentalist) Blessed Be The Name
Felix Borowski LEVAS #78
Welcome & Collect of the day Celebrant: People: Celebrant:
The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. God of fierce justice, you close the mouth of those who devour the poor and hide behind their prayer; humbled by the giving of those who have so little, let us live from your abundance; through Jesus Christ, the judgment of God. Amen
Please be seated for the Lessons
The First Lesson Reader:
1 Kings 17: 8-16
A reading from the first book of Kings
The word of the LORD came to Elijah, saying, “Go now to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and live there; for I have commanded a widow there to feed you.” So he set out and went to Zarephath. When he came to the gate of the town, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called to her and said, “Bring me a little water in a vessel, so that I may drink.” As she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, “Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.” But she said, “As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a jug; I am now gathering a couple of sticks, so that I may go home and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.” Elijah said to her, “Do not be afraid; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterwards make something for yourself and your son. For thus says the LORD the God of Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the LORD sends rain on the earth.” She went and did as Elijah said, so that she as well as he and her household ate for many days. The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by Elijah. Reader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s People. People: Thanks be to God. 3
The psalm
Psalm 126
The congregation will sing the Refrain, the verses will be offered by the Choral Scholars. Refrain (first time the Choral Scholars will lead, then congregation will join)
1 Hallelujah! Praise the LORD, O my soul! * I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. 2 Put not your trust in rulers, nor in any child of earth, * for there is no help in them. 3 When they breathe their last, they return to earth, * and in that day their thoughts perish. Refrain 4 Happy are they who have the God of Jacob for their help! * whose hope is in the LORD their God; 5 Who made heaven and earth, the seas, and all that is in them; * who keeps his promise for ever; 6 Who gives justice to those who are oppressed, * and food to those who hunger. Refrain 7 The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind; * the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; 4
Gather #75
8 The LORD loves the righteous; the LORD cares for the stranger; * he sustains the orphan and widow, but frustrates the way of the wicked. 9 The LORD shall reign for ever, * your God, O Zion, throughout all generations. Hallelujah! Refrain
The second Lesson Reader:
Hebrews 9:24-28
A reading from Hebrews
Christ did not enter a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, but he entered into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself again and again, as the high priest enters the Holy Place year after year with blood that is not his own; for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the age to remove sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once, and after that the judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. LEVAS #119
The Gospel Celebrant: People:
Mark 12:38-44 The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. Glory to you, Lord Christ.
As Jesus taught, he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets! They devour widows’ houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” Celebrant: People:

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
New Zealand Prayer Book
(Please stand as you are able.)
We believe in the God of Life, who creates and loves people, who acts in history and who promises never to leave us alone. We believe in Jesus of Nazareth, who is our brother, who wants not to be idolized but to be followed. We believe that we dwell in the presence of the Holy Spirit; without Her we are nothing; filled with Her we are able to become creative, lively and free. We believe in the Church of Jesus Christ, a community where we find companions and courage for the struggles of life, where we grow in our understanding of the faith, through worship, prayer, nurture and service. We believe that God has a use for us in this time and place, that though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we are called to be instruments of God’s peace. We believe in living, hoping, laughing, and enjoying the good of the earth. We believe that people can change, and that God keeps pulling us to life and to a new world of joy and peace. Amen.

The Prayers of the People Refrain
Ken Medema (1970)
Intercessor:
Open our minds, O Creator, that we might dream a Church reconciled, knowing your love so abundantly it bursts with a passion for ministry, a desire to give completely, and a sense of generosity that seeks only to give back.
Intercessor:
Open our hearts, O Giver of Gifts, to be transformed by the mighty outpouring of your compassion, so that we will seek to serve others with humility, integrity and urgency as your servants.
Refrain Intercessor:
Open our eyes, O Sanctifier of Life, to the hurts and needs of others. Teach us to see where our own abilities and resources - and the world’s deep hunger – meet.
Intercessor:
Open our hands, O Spirit, to be your instruments of witness. Help us to work without caution, serve without recognition, to do justice, to love kindness, and to serve humbly with you, our God.
Refrain Intercessor:
Open our memories, O Redeemer of All, as we tenderly remember those who have died, especially those we now name….. Help us honor the wisdom of those who devoted their lives to service, and who generously gave of their time and resources.
Celebrant:
Nurturing God, your love is free, your compassion unconditional, and your mercy infinite. Grant that we may discover the joy of living lives from a place of radical generosity, following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ our friend. In the name of Christ. Amen. 9
The Confession of Sin & Absolution Celebrant:
Let us confess our sins to God. (silence may be kept)
Celebrant and People: Creator God, full of grace and truth, you create us from nothing and give us life abundant. You give us new life in the water of baptism. You never turn your face from us, nor cast us aside. We confess we have turned against you and against our neighbor, in thought, word and deed. We have wounded your love and marred your image in us. Restore us for the sake of your Son, and bring us to heavenly joy, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Celebrant:
All:
May the God of love bring you back to all that is good in you. May you be forgiven of all wrongdoing, and welcome God’s grace anew in your life this day. May God’s assurance strengthen your resolve to begin again in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Peace Celebrant: People:
The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Celebrant continues: All thanks and praise are yours at all times and in all places, our true and loving God; through Jesus Christ, your eternal Word, the Wisdom from on high by whom you created all things. You laid the foundations of the world and enclosed the sea when it burst out from the womb; you brought forth all creatures of the earth and gave breath to humankind. Wondrous are you, Holy One of Blessing, all you create is a sign of hope for our journey; and so as the morning stars sing your praises we join the heavenly beings and all creation as we shout with joy: 11
Sanctus
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord
LEVAS 252
The celebrant continues: Glory and honor are yours, Creator of all, your Word has never been silent; you called a people to yourself, as a light to the nations, you delivered them from bondage and led them to a land of promise. Of your grace, you gave Jesus to be human, to share our life, to proclaim the coming of your holy reign and give himself for us, a fragrant offering. Through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, you have freed us from sin, brought us into your life, reconciled us to you, and restored us to the glory you intend for us. We thank you that on the night before he died for us Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, gave it to his friends and said: “Take, eat, this is my Body, broken for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends and said: “Drink this, all of you: this cup is the new Covenant in my Blood, poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
12
And so, remembering all that was done for us: the cross, the tomb, the resurrection and ascension, longing for Christ’s coming in glory, and presenting to you these gifts your earth has formed and human hands have made, we acclaim you, O Christ: All:
Dying, you destroyed our death. Rising, you restored our life. Christ Jesus, come in glory!
Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts of bread and wine that they may be to us the Body and Blood of your Christ. Grant that we, burning with your Spirit’s power, may be a people of hope, justice and love. Giver of Life, draw us together in the Body of Christ, and in the fullness of time gather us with all your people into the joy of our true eternal home. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you our God and Creator in voices of unending praise. . All:
Amen.

The Fraction: Breaking of the Bread & Invitation Celebrant: All:
We break this bread to share in the Body of Christ. We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread.
Celebrant:
The gifts of God for the people of God. Holy food, for holy people.
(Please be seated until you are invited to come forward to receive communion.) We welcome ALL to come forward to receive the bread and wine we offer as a sign of God’s love in and for our lives. (We have bread, gluten-free wafers, wine, and grape juice.) To receive the bread—put your hands together (palms up) in front of you. Either eat the bread and drink from the chalice or dip the bread in the chalice. If you are unable to come forward and wish to have Communion brought to you, please inform a greeter. Need prayer for yourself or someone else? During communion, come to the prayer station near the back of our worship space. Prayers may be requested for healing, medical procedures, safe travels, and more. Blessings for birthdays, anniversaries, and other events may also be requested. This can also be a time of quiet prayer for you to see out God's love in silence. There is also a basket where you can write down your prayer requests; the team will keep you in their prayers. All are welcome to take advantage of this opportunity, but no one is required; know that you are welcome and wanted just as you are.

For some, church is as comfortable and familiar as a good pair of jeans, or like coming back to your childhood home (if it is one filled with good memories). For others, church might be like visiting a foreign country where you experience unfamiliar language or customs. And then, sadly, for some church has become equated with feelings of hurt, rejection, or shame. We get all of that, and believe that church can be different.

We hold in real tension the beauty of our tradition with Jesus’ mandate to welcome all, no exceptions. And we get that if people are brave enough to walk through the doors of a big, Gothic-looking church in downtown Toledo, we’d better be serious about being progressive, inclusive and creative.

Good morning and “welcome home” to Trinity! Whether you are new to our community or have found yourself coming back again and again, we want you to know you are both welcome and wanted here among us.
We love our Episcopal tradition, but we love people from all walks of life even more. It is our hope and prayer that together we will navigate our way through each gathering, worship service, outreach activity, class, meal and social time with humility, grace and laughter. So thank you for being here today; for trusting the yearning that brought you through those ancient doors. May we all find our way into the heart of God’s love as we make room for each and all of us at the Table of love we set together week after week. May you never forget you are loved,
