The First Lesson Reader:
Acts 16:16-34
A reading from the book of Acts.
With Paul and Silas, we came to Philippi in Macedonia, a Roman colony, and, as we were going to the place of prayer, we met a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners a great deal of money by fortune-telling. While she followed Paul and us, she would cry out, "These men are slaves of the Most High God, who proclaim to you a way of salvation." She kept doing this for many days. But Paul, very much annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I order you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And it came out that very hour. But when her owners saw that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the authorities. When they had brought them before the magistrates, they said, "These men are disturbing our city; they are Jews and are advocating customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to adopt or observe." The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates had them stripped of their clothing and ordered them to be beaten with rods. After they had given them a severe flogging, they threw them into prison and ordered the jailer to keep them securely. Following these instructions, he put them in the innermost cell and fastened their feet in the stocks. Lesson continues… 3
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was an earthquake, so violent that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were unfastened. When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, since he supposed that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted in a loud voice, "Do not harm yourself, for we are all here." The jailer called for lights, and rushing in, he fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them outside and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" They answered, "Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." They spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. At the same hour of the night he took them and washed their wounds; then he and his entire family were baptized without delay. He brought them up into the house and set food before them; and he and his entire household rejoiced that he had become a believer in God. Reader: People:

REFRAIN (repeated) A The Lord is King; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of the isles be glad. B Clouds and darkness are round about him, righteousness and justice are the foundations of his throne. A A fire goes before him, and burns up his enemies on every side. B His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees it and is afraid. REFRAIN A The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. B The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory. A Confounded be all who worship carved images and delight in false gods! Bow down before him, all you gods. B Zion hears and is glad, and the cities of Judah rejoice, because of your judgments, O Lord. REFRAIN A For you are the Lord, most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. B The Lord loves those who hate evil; he preserves the lives of his saints and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. A Light has sprung up for the righteous, and joyful gladness for those who are true hearted. B Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous, and give thanks to his holy Name. REFRAIN

The second Lesson Reader:
Revelation 22:12-14,16-17,20-21
A reading from the book of Revelation.
At the end of the visions I, John, heard these words: "See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone's work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they will have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates. "It is I, Jesus, who sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let everyone who hears say, "Come." And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift. The one who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen. Reader: People:

John 17:20-26 The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Jesus prayed for his disciples, and then he said. "I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. "Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these know that you have sent me. I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them." Officiant: People:

(Please stand as you are able.) We believe in God, the creator of all life and beauty, who blesses our journey. We believe in Jesus Christ, who lived as a friend and savior to all he met as he traveled, and who ate and laughed, wept and celebrated with them in love. We believe in the Holy Spirit, who rides on the gentle breeze, who strengthens our bindings, and who offers hope eternal. We believe in the church, which stands open to all travelers, and bears witness to the everlasting love of God. Amen.

God be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Celebrant: It is right, and a good and joyful thing always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Creator of heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. For our sins he was lifted high upon the cross, that he might draw the whole world to himself; and, by his suffering and death, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who put their trust in him. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name;

Celebrant: Holy and gracious God: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and maker of all. Jesus stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Savior Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper Jesus took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, Almighty God, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling Christ’s death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in Christ. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom. All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Savior. By Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty God, now and for ever. AMEN.

Trinity Pages #LOVE IS THE WAY!
Serving this week & next:
Good morning and “welcome home” to Trinity! Whether you are new to our community or have found yourself coming back again and again, we want you to know you are both welcome and wanted here among us.
Every Sunday we come together to connect, grow and serve as we walk the way of love. It takes many hands and hearts, and all are invited to get involved as soon as possible in ways that help grow your faith.
For some, church is as comfortable and familiar as a good pair of jeans, or like coming back to your childhood home (if it is one filled with good memories). For others, church might be like visiting a foreign country where you experience unfamiliar language or customs. And then, sadly, for some church has become equated with feelings of hurt, rejection, or shame. We get all of that and believe that church can be different. We hold in real tension the beauty of our tradition with Jesus’ mandate to welcome all, no exceptions. And we get that if people are brave enough to walk through the doors of a big, Gothic-looking church in downtown Toledo, we’d better be serious about being progressive, inclusive and creative. We love our Episcopal tradition, but we love people from all walks of life even more. It is our hope and prayer that together we will navigate our way through each gathering, worship service, outreach activity, class, meal and social time with humility, grace and laughter. So thank you for being here today; for trusting the yearning that brought you through those ancient doors. May we all find our way into the heart of God’s love as we make room for each and all of us at the Table of love we set together week after week. And may you never forget you are loved,
Lisa

Introducing Trinity 2030 Vision Process Beginning in October 2017, Lisa has been teaching and talking about her desire to get us engaged in the work of crafting a long-term vision for ministry together. While there are many ways to do this work, she has brought us the process developed by Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor (yes, the Deli!). During the February vestry retreat, the vestry reaffirmed their desire for the parish to engage in this process as well. In March, 4 members of Trinity attended a 2-day training at the Zing Train Center in Ann Arbor. Roberta Durham, Alice Todd, Heather Meyer and Lisa learned the process, purpose and power of this particular way of crafting a vision. The vestry has now agreed to engage a team of Zing Trainers to work with the parish to craft a 10year vision. We will have multiple times to engage the process, but all are invited to sign up and come to the introductory workshop scheduled for:
Saturday, June 15 (8:00-12:00) Thank you to those who have already committed to the exciting development, we have 17 signed up! Spots will fill up quickly, don’t miss out on this extraordinary experience.
Go to www.trinitytoledo.org homepage to sign up! All are welcome and wanted!!
Alice Todd, Sr. Warden, Vestry Member:
During the training each of us were asked to write about our views and wishes for Trinity’s future. As individuals, we all wrote and thought differently. When we combined our thought of Trinity’s future, key themes came together and created a vision with substance that was exciting and felt very possible. At that point, I saw the power of Zingerman’s Visioning process and believe we will be amazed at the strength of our Trinity community and vision we can jointly create to move forward over the next 10 years.

A weekly spotlight of one of Trinity’s 5 ministry partners in 2019.
We’ve dreamed, we’ve planned, we’ve recruited, we’ve been trained, we’ve found two amazing young adults – and finally, the first two groups of Open Table Toledo launch in a matter of weeks. Trinity’s ministry partner – long in the planning stages – brings small groups of 6-8 volunteers to embrace one young person emerging from foster care. Every week for one year, these groups meet over dinner and, through intention and over time, create trusting, loving communities to share life’s journey. All young people need safe places of support and encouragement as they venture into adulthood. This is especially true for those who, by aging out of foster care, are at higher risk of social/emotional isolation, poverty, and homelessness. The relationship-based model of Open Table Toledo is kingdom-making work, happening right here and right now. Trinity is thrilled to be the organizational host for this endeavor of loving-kindness. Roberta Durham, Open Table Toledo’s Founder AND WE NEED YOUR HELP! OT is looking for parishioners to make a one-time commitment to prepare and serve the very first dinner for both small groups. Both meals will take place in early June and held in My Brother’s Place. This milestone event, known as The Breaking of the Bread, marks the first occasion each foster alum meets their group of volunteers. To volunteer to help prepare and serve one of the meals in June, please email Roberta at roberta.deboer@gmail.com.
