The Lord be with you. And also with you. Spirit of truth; guide us into all the truth; consume the lies that shroud the world in hate; pray in us with sighs too deep for words; and let the victim’s voice ring out with hope for a new world; through Jesus Christ, who goes to the right hand of God. The First Lesson

Acts 2:1-21

Reader: A reading from the book of Acts. When the day of Pentecost had come, the disciples were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs-- in our own languages we hear them speaking about God's deeds of power." All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" But others sneered and said, "They are filled with new wine." But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o'clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 3

)

`In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord's great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.' " Reader: People:

The psalm

Psalm 104:25-35

The whole congregation is invited to sing the REFRAIN. The verses will be chanted while the choir drones. REFRAIN

REFRAIN (repeated as desired) 25 O

Lord, how manifold are your works! * in wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

26

Yonder is the great and wide sea with its living things too many to number, * creatures both small and great.

27

There move the ships, and there is that Leviathan, * which you have made for the sport of it.

28

All of them look to you * to give them their food in due season.

REFRAIN 29

You give it to them; they gather it; * you open your hand, and they are filled with good things.

30

You hide your face, and they are terrified; * you take away their breath, and they die and return to their dust.

31

You send forth your Spirit, and they are created; * and so you renew the face of the earth.

32

May the glory of the Lord endure for ever; * may the Lord rejoice in all his works.

REFRAIN 33

He looks at the earth and it trembles; * he touches the mountains and they smoke.

34

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; * I will praise my God while I have my being.

35

May these words of mine please him; * I will rejoice in the Lord.

REFRAIN (repeated as desired)

The second Lesson Reader:

Romans 8:14-17

A reading from Romans.

All who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, "Abba! Father!" it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ-- if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. The Gospel Officiant: People:

John 14:8-17 The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Philip said to Jesus, "Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, `Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it. "If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you." Officiant: People:

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Celebrant: Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord? People: I will, with God’s help. The Prayers of the People Intercessor: People:

Spirit of fire, inflame in us a passion for justice and equality: That we may know the cleansing of our prejudices and fears and proclaim your freedom boldly, caressing your Earth with humility.

Intercessor:

Spirit of compassion, infuse us with your longings for wholeness and happiness: That we may reach out to those who are hurting and disordered, enfolding one another with your love and tenderness.

People: Intercessor: People: Intercessor: People:

Spirit of wisdom, be within us in our journeying, gently guiding us along the right paths: That we may be led towards transformation and new beginnings in our world. Spirit of gentleness, touch us anew, releasing in us all that we are afraid of: That we may know your acceptance of us, and freely accept and embrace others.

Intercessor: People:

Spirit of power, hold us in our powerlessness: That we may know your strength and become a voice for the voiceless, healing for the wounded and empowerment for the weak.

Intercessor: People:

Spirit of judgement, be tender with us and show us your mercy: That we may humbly learn of you and not be afraid to be your prophets in the world.

Intercessor:

Spirit of comfort, draw near to us in all grief, confusion and pain; in your graciousness, bring hope, consolation and renewal: That many may look up and discover you in the midst.

People: Intercessor: People:

Spirit of dance, be our playfulness: That we may leap and laugh and enter your joy. Give us confidence in life and assurance in death.

Celebrant: Holy, sprightly Spirit of God, we delight at your dancing among us, filling the world with joyful possibility, revealing the music of the Creator. We rejoice at your daring spontaneity and find ourselves caught off guard by your unexpected communications. In a world that can seem predictable, you spark into being new possibilities. In a world that can seem drab, you weave your ever-changing patterns into the fabric of our beings. In a world that can be hostile, your meditating love builds a path from antagonism to co-operation. In a world that can appear purposeless, your vitality shouts out a mighty ‘Yes’ to life and declares that source of all living to be the One from whom you proceed, Creator and Lover of all. We offer our prayers in the name of Jesus, who promised your coming and reigns with you in the eternal fellowship of the Creator, one perfect Trinity of love. Amen. 9

Enriching Our Worship Prayer 3

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

10

Celebrant: All thanks and praise are yours at all times and in all places, our true and loving God; through Jesus Christ, your eternal Word, the Wisdom from on high by whom you created all things. You laid the foundations of the world and enclosed the sea when it burst out from the womb; you brought forth all creatures of the earth and gave breath to humankind. Wondrous are you, Holy One of Blessing, all you create is a sign of hope for our journey; and so as the morning stars sing your praises we join the heavenly beings and all creation as we shout with joy:

Sanctus

Holy, Holy, Holy

Grayson Warren Brown

Celebrant: Glory and honor are yours, Creator of all, your Word has never been silent; you called a people to yourself, as a light to the nations, you delivered them from bondage and led them to a land of promise. Of your grace, you gave Jesus to be human, to share our life, to proclaim the coming of your holy reign and give himself for us, a fragrant offering. Through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, you have freed us from sin, brought us into your life, reconciled us to you, and restored us to the glory you intend for us. We thank you that on the night before he died for us Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, gave it to his friends and said: “Take, eat, this is my Body, broken for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends and said: “Drink this, all of you: this cup is the new Covenant in my Blood, poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.” And so, remembering all that was done for us: the cross, the tomb, the resurrection and ascension, longing for Christ’s coming in glory, and presenting to you these gifts your earth has formed and human hands have made, we acclaim you, O Christ: 11

Dying, you destroyed our death. Rising, you restored our life. Christ Jesus, come in glory! Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts of bread and wine that they may be to us the Body and Blood of your Christ. Grant that we, burning with your Spirit’s power, may be a people of hope, justice and love. Giver of Life, draw us together in the Body of Christ, and in the fullness of time gather us with all your people into the joy of our true eternal home. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you our God and Creator in voices of unending praise. AMEN.

The Lord’s Prayer Celebrant:

(The New Zealand Prayer Book, from the Anglican Church in Aotearoa)

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say:

Eternal Spirit, Earth-maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver, Source of all that is and that shall be, Father and Mother of us all, Loving God, in whom is heaven: The hallowing of your name echo through the universe! The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the world! Your heavenly will be done by all created beings! Your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hope and come on earth. With the bread we need for today, feed us. In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us. In times of temptation and testing, strengthen us. From trials too great to endure, spare us. From the grip of all that is evil, free us. For you reign in the glory of the power that is love, now and forever. Amen.

Trinity Pages #LOVE IS THE WAY!

Serving this week & next:

Good morning and “welcome home” to Trinity! Whether you are new to our community or have found yourself coming back again and again, we want you to know you are both welcome and wanted here among us.

Every Sunday we come together to connect, grow and serve as we walk the way of love. It takes many hands and hearts, and all are invited to get involved as soon as possible in ways that help grow your faith.

For some, church is as comfortable and familiar as a good pair of jeans, or like coming back to your childhood home (if it is one filled with good memories). For others, church might be like visiting a foreign country where you experience unfamiliar language or customs. And then, sadly, for some church has become equated with feelings of hurt, rejection, or shame. We get all of that and believe that church can be different. We hold in real tension the beauty of our tradition with Jesus’ mandate to welcome all, no exceptions. And we get that if people are brave enough to walk through the doors of a big, Gothic-looking church in downtown Toledo, we’d better be serious about being progressive, inclusive and creative. We love our Episcopal tradition, but we love people from all walks of life even more. It is our hope and prayer that together we will navigate our way through each gathering, worship service, outreach activity, class, meal and social time with humility, grace and laughter. So thank you for being here today; for trusting the yearning that brought you through those ancient doors. May we all find our way into the heart of God’s love as we make room for each and all of us at the Table of love we set together week after week. And may you never forget you are loved,

Lisa

Introducing Trinity 2030 Vision Process Beginning in October 2017, Lisa has been teaching and talking about her desire to get us engaged in the work of crafting a long-term vision for ministry together. While there are many ways to do this work, she has brought us the process developed by Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor (yes, the Deli!). During the February vestry retreat, the vestry reaffirmed their desire for the parish to engage in this process as well. In March, 4 members of Trinity attended a 2-day training at the Zing Train Center in Ann Arbor. Roberta Durham, Alice Todd, Heather Meyer and Lisa learned the process, purpose and power of this particular way of crafting a vision. The vestry has now agreed to engage a team of Zing Trainers to work with the parish to craft a 10year vision. We will have multiple times to engage the process, but all are invited to sign up and come to the introductory workshop scheduled for:

Saturday, June 15 (8:00-12:00) Thank you to those who have already committed to the exciting development, we have 20 signed up! Spots will fill up quickly, don’t miss out on this extraordinary experience.

Art Loop

Roberta Durham, Clerk, Vestry Member: Deliberate visioning can take us beyond the idle thoughts of a foggy-looking future that begins, "Wouldn't it be nice someday if...?" If each of us aches (as I hope we do) to belong to a faith community whose actions are provoked by our love of God and, by extension, one another and everyone else beyond our red doors, visioning is a powerful tool for transforming that ache into a vivid, specific, achievable picture. Visioning can help us dream (big!) -- not in our sleep, but in our wideawake, loving lives.

Art Loop is every 3rd Thursday of the month, 5:309:00pm. Join Trinity for our next Art Loop on June 20th from 5:30 - 9:00 for fun, crafts and music! Many hands make light and fun work! Any amount of time you can share to this great evening of arts and community, is appreciated! More information can be found on our website!

Chalice Guild Volunteers assist with offering the wine at communion every Sunday. Each member is trained on what to do and say as well as why communion is such an important part of our understanding of who we are as Christians and Episcopalians. If you’re interested, please contact Priest Lisa at lisa@trinitytoledo.org. For more information on ways to get involved at Trinity, visit our website!
