Welcome Collect of the day Celebrant: People: Celebrant:

( From Prayers for an Inclusive Church)

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Lord, you trouble our peace, you step upon our guarded shore and confront our chaos: may we who are divided and colonized by the forces of death learn for you to speak our own name and proclaim your works of life; through Jesus Christ, Tamer of the Legions. Amen.

(Please be seated for the Lessons.)

The First Lesson Reader:

Isaiah 65: 1-9

A reading from Isaiah.

I was ready to be sought out by those who did not ask, to be found by those who did not seek me. I said, "Here I am, here I am," to a nation that did not call on my name. I held out my hands all day long to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices; a people who provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens and offering incense on bricks; who sit inside tombs, and spend the night in secret places; who eat swine's flesh, with broth of abominable things in their vessels; who say, "Keep to yourself, do not come near me, for I am too holy for you." These are a smoke in my nostrils, a fire that burns all day long. See, it is written before me: I will not keep silent, but I will repay; I will indeed repay into their laps their iniquities and their ancestors' iniquities together, says the Lord; because they offered incense on the mountains and reviled me on the hills, I will measure into their laps full payment for their actions. Thus says the Lord: As the wine is found in the cluster, and they say, "Do not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it," so I will do for my servants' sake, and not destroy them all. I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and from Judah inheritors of my mountains; my chosen shall inherit it, and my servants shall settle there. Reader: People:

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s People. Thanks be to God.

The psalm

Psalm 22:19-28

( From Psalms for Praying: An Invitation to Wholeness)

The refrain will be sung twice at the beginning, the first time by the cantor, the second with the congregation, and then once as listed throughout the Psalm. Then everyone will speak the verses. REFRAIN

REFRAIN O Beloved, be not far off! You, who are my help, hasten to my aid! Free my soul from this agony, my life from the power of the boar! Save me from the mouth of the lion, my afflicted soul from the horns of the bull! REFRAIN I will tell of your Name to all I meet, in the midst of assemblies I will praise You; You, who are in wonder of the Mystery, give praise! For our loving Creator does not turn away from the afflicted, And does not hide from them; But their cries are heard, their prayers rise up to heaven. REFRAIN To You, O Beloved, I lift up my voice in the great congregation; for You promise to remain with those whose love is steadfast. The hungry shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek You shall sing praises! Your Heart is our dwelling place forever! REFRAIN All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to Love's way; And all the families of the nations shall bow down with grateful hearts. For power and authority belong to the Most High, who rules over the nations. REFRAIN This summer, rather than use the standard NRSV scripture translations for our Psalms, we will be using Nan Merrill’s transliteration of the Psalms. The complete book of Psalms is titled Psalms for Praying: An Invitation to Wholeness.

The second Lesson Reader:

Galatians 3:23-29

A reading from Galatians.

Now before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. Therefore, the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to the promise. Reader: People:

The Gospel Officiant: People:

Luke 8:26-39 The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke. Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Jesus and his disciples arrived at the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. As he stepped out on land, a man of the city who had demons met him. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he did not live in a house but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he fell down before him and shouted at the top of his voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me" -- for Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. 5

Gospel Continues‌

(For many times it had seized him; he was kept under guard and bound with chains and shackles, but he would break the bonds and be driven by the demon into the wilds.) Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" He said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him. They begged him not to order them to go back into the abyss. Now there on the hillside a large herd of swine was feeding; and the demons begged Jesus to let them enter these. So he gave them permission. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. When the swineherds saw what had happened, they ran off and told it in the city and in the country. Then people came out to see what had happened, and when they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. Those who had seen it told them how the one who had been possessed by demons had been healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them; for they were seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but Jesus sent him away, saying, "Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you." So he went away, proclaiming throughout the city how much Jesus had done for him. Officiant: People:

Sermon Affirmation of Faith

The Rev. Dr. Lisa Tucker-Gray (Please stand as you are able.)

We believe in God, the creator of all life and beauty, who blesses our journey. We believe in Jesus Christ, who lived as a friend and savior to all he met as he traveled, and who ate and laughed, wept and celebrated with them in love. We believe in the Holy Spirit, who rides on the gentle breeze, who strengthens our bindings, and who offers hope eternal. We believe in the church, which stands open to all travelers, and bears witness to the everlasting love of God. Amen.

Women’s Uncommon Prayer

Open our lips, O Spirit, that we may proclaim your benevolent truth and call for justice in our communities, in our congregations, and in the world. Spirit, open our lips. Open our minds, O Creator, that we might dream a Church reconciled, a Church that knows your love so abundantly it bursts with a passion for ministry, a desire to give completely, and seeks only to give back. Creator, open our minds. Open our hearts, O Giver of Gifts, to be transformed by compassion, so we will serve others with humility, integrity and urgency as your servants. Giver of Gifts, open our hearts. Open our eyes, O Sanctifier of Life, to the hurts and needs of others. Teach us to see where our abilities and resources can be used for good. Sanctifier of Life, open our eyes. Open our hands, O Spirit, to be your instruments of witness. Help us work without caution, serve without recognition, and proclaim, justice, love and kindness, in your name. Spirit, open our hands. Open our memories, O Redeemer of All, as we tenderly remember those who have asked for our prayers, including those on our Prayer List…and those we now name aloud our in our hearts… Redeemer of All, open our memories. God, your love is free, your compassion unconditional, and your mercy infinite. You shower upon us gifts abundant. Grant that we may know and trust these gifts discovering the joy they bring. In the name of the Risen Christ we pray. Amen.

Arr. Don Gray Enriching Our Worship Prayer 3

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. 8

Celebrant: All thanks and praise are yours at all times and in all places, our true and loving God; through Jesus Christ, your eternal Word, the Wisdom from on high by whom you created all things. You laid the foundations of the world and enclosed the sea when it burst out from the womb; you brought forth all creatures of the earth and gave breath to humankind. Wondrous are you, Holy One of Blessing, all you create is a sign of hope for our journey; and so as the morning stars sing your praises we join the heavenly beings and all creation as we shout with joy:

Sanctus

Holy, Holy, Holy

Grayson Warren Brown

Celebrant: Glory and honor are yours, Creator of all, your Word has never been silent; you called a people to yourself, as a light to the nations, you delivered them from bondage and led them to a land of promise. Of your grace, you gave Jesus to be human, to share our life, to proclaim the coming of your holy reign and give himself for us, a fragrant offering. Through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, you have freed us from sin, brought us into your life, reconciled us to you, and restored us to the glory you intend for us. We thank you that on the night before he died for us Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, gave it to his friends and said: “Take, eat, this is my Body, broken for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends and said: “Drink this, all of you: this cup is the new Covenant in my Blood, poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

9

And so, remembering all that was done for us: the cross, the tomb, the resurrection and ascension, longing for Christ’s coming in glory, and presenting to you these gifts your earth has formed and human hands have made, we acclaim you, O Christ: Dying, you destroyed our death. Rising, you restored our life. Christ Jesus, come in glory! Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts of bread and wine that they may be to us the Body and Blood of your Christ. Grant that we, burning with your Spirit’s power, may be a people of hope, justice and love. Giver of Life, draw us together in the Body of Christ, and in the fullness of time gather us with all your people into the joy of our true eternal home. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you our God and Creator in voices of unending praise. AMEN.

What a Friend We Have In Jesus

LEVAS #109

PRESIDING BISHOP’S PRIDE MONTH STATEMENT HONORS LGBTQ EPISCOPALIANS June 13, 2019 Presiding Bishop Michael Curry today offered the following statement: Jesus said: “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35) In my years of ministry, I have personally seen and been blessed by countless LGBTQ sisters, brothers and siblings. Dear friends, the church has in like manner been blessed by you. Together with many others you are faithful followers of Jesus of Nazareth and his way of love. You have helped the church to be truly catholic, universal, a house of prayer for all people. You have helped the church to truly be a reflection of the beloved community of God. You have helped the church to authentically be a branch of the Jesus movement in our time. Your ministries to and with this church are innumerable. I could speak of how you often lead our vestries, and other leadership bodies in the church. I could speak of how many of you organize our liturgies of worship, lift our voices in song, manage church funds, teach and form our children as followers of Jesus, lead congregations, ministries and dioceses. But through it all and above it all, you faithfully follow Jesus and his way of love. And in so doing you help the church, not to build a bigger church for church’s sake, but to build a better world for God’s sake. During June, Americans and people around the world observe Pride. Today, as we mourn the 49 people who were murdered at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando three years ago, I am mindful that Pride is both a celebration and a testament to sorrow and struggle that has not yet ended. Especially this month, I offer special thanks to God for the strength of the LGBTQ community and for all that you share with your spouses, partners and children, with your faith communities, and indeed with our entire nation.

Trinity Pride Rally Meeting Trinity will host its first organizational Pride meeting on Thursday, June 27, 6:00-7:30 in My Brother’s Place, seeking to organize parade and booth participation, coordinate with other local parishes, determine resource needs and find two individuals to co-chair our presence at Pride this year!

Trinity Pages #LOVE IS THE WAY! Good morning and “welcome home” to Trinity! Whether you are new to our community or have found yourself coming back again and again, we want you to know you are both welcome and wanted here among us. For some, church is as comfortable and familiar as a good pair of jeans, or like coming back to your childhood home (if it is one filled with good memories). For others, church might be like visiting a foreign country where you experience unfamiliar language or customs. And then, sadly, for some church has become equated with feelings of hurt, rejection, or shame. We get all of that and believe that church can be different. We hold in real tension the beauty of our tradition with Jesus’ mandate to welcome all, no exceptions. And we get that if people are brave enough to walk through the doors of a big, Gothic-looking church in downtown Toledo, we’d better be serious about being progressive, inclusive and creative. We love our Episcopal tradition, but we love people from all walks of life even more. It is our hope and prayer that together we will navigate our way through each gathering, worship service, outreach activity, class, meal and social time with humility, grace and laughter. So thank you for being here today; for trusting the yearning that brought you through those ancient doors. May we all find our way into the heart of God’s love as we make room for each and all of us at the Table of love we set together week after week. And may you never forget you are loved,

Lisa

Serving this week & next: Every Sunday we come together to connect, grow and serve as we walk the way of love. It takes many hands and hearts, and all are invited to get involved as soon as possible in ways that help grow your faith.
