Celebrant:
The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray.
Lord…We thank you for your church, founded upon your Word, that challenges us to do more than sing and pray, but go out and work as though the very answer to our prayers depended on us and not upon you. Help us to realize that humanity was created to shine like the stars and live on through all eternity. Keep us, we pray, in perfect peace. Help us to walk together, pray together, sing together, and live together until that day when all God’s children - Black, White, Red, Brown and Yellow - will rejoice in one common band of humanity in the reign of our Lord and of our God, we pray. Amen
FIRST Reading Reader:
Jeremiah 28:5-9 Read by Mary Toneff
A reading from Jeremiah
The prophet Jeremiah spoke to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the LORD; and the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May the LORD do so; may the LORD fulfill the words that you have prophesied, and bring back to this place from Babylon the vessels of the house of the LORD, and all the exiles. But listen now to this word that I speak in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people. The prophets who preceded you and me from ancient times prophesied war, famine, and pestilence against many countries and great kingdoms. As for the prophet who prophesies peace, when the word of that prophet comes true, then it will be known that the LORD has truly sent the prophet.”

Psalm 89:1-4, 19-26
From Psalms for Praying
(Offered by Jobst Choral Scholars) The congregation is invited to sing the last two lines of every stanza (in bold); the notes provided follow the entirety of the soprano part.
I will sing of your steadfast love forever, my Be- / loved; with forthright voice I will proclaim your goodness to all gener- / ations. For your abiding love rules the / universe, your faithfulness extends throughout the / firmament. Your Covenant from the beginning / of time encompasses all who choose to walk the path of / Love; And to all generations that honor your / Word, will Love make Itself / known. 3
You have made yourself known to the / faith-filled; You set them on the path of / peace. The Gift You sent to bring redemption invites us to eternal / life, Through the Heart of all / hearts; You opened the way / to Life. Your steadfast Love came among us giving us / strength. Fear shall not over- / come us, we will not give in to / doubt. For your Love casts out / our fear and gives rise to forgiveness of those who would do us / wrong. Yes, your faithfulness and your abiding love are / with us, and in your name we can do all good / things. Through You is our consciousness lifted / up, that we might know your Will and / live it. In our gratitude we cry out, “You are the Be- / loved, the Most High, our very / Breath.
SECOND READING Reader:
Romans 6:12-23 Read by Kelsey Echelbarger
A reading from Romans
Do not let sin exercise dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted, and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness for sanctification. When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. So what advantage did you then get from the things of which you now are ashamed? The end of those things is death. But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Matthew 10:40-42 The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple-- truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.

An Affirmation of Faith
The Iona Abbey Book of Worship Led by Sue Smitley Please join the leader in sharing the words of this Affirmation of Faith
We believe that God is present in the darkness before dawn; in the waiting and uncertainty where fear and courage join hands, conflict and caring link arms, and the sun rises over barbed wire. We believe in a with-us God who sits down in our midst to share our humanity. We affirm a faith that takes us beyond the safe place:
into action, into vulnerability and into the streets. We commit ourselves to work for change and put ourselves on the line; to bear responsibility, take risks, live powerfully and face humiliation; to stand with those on the edge; to choose life and be used by the Spirit for God's new community of hope. Amen.

Celtic tradition from Iona Community
Let us confess our sins. To you Lord, all hearts are open, no secrets are hidden. Forgive our secret sins; Forgive our habitual sins; Forgive our unnoticed sins; Our sins against ourselves, Our sins against others, Our sins against you. Lord, let our memory provide no shelter for bitterness against another. Lord, let our minds provide no foothold for prejudice against another. Lord, let our hearts provide no harbor for hatred of another. Lord, let our attitudes be no associate in the condemnation of another. Lord, let our tongues be no accomplice in the judgment of another. Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy on us. Pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us is all goodness, and keep us in life eternal. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Lord’s Prayer
Version by Parker Palmer
The congregation is invited to join.
Led by Bobbie Finn-Will
Heavenly Father, heavenly Mother, Holy and blessed is your true name. We pray for your reign of peace to come, We pray that your good will be done, Let heaven and earth become one. Give us this day the bread we need, Give it to those who have none. Let forgiveness flow like a river between us,
From each one to each one. Lead us to holy innocence Beyond the evil of our days — Come swiftly Mother, Father, come. For yours is the power and the glory and the mercy: Forever your name is All in One. Amen. 7
Blessing
May the rain fall off your shoulders when you’re caught in a storm. When the frost comes a callin’ may it find you safe and warm. May your place be set, and may your promises be kept. And may you never forget that you are loved.
