Welcome

The Rev. Dr. Lisa Tucker-Gray

Opening Statement Priest: People: Priest: People: Priest: People:

Alleluia! Christ is risen! They are risen indeed! Alleluia! There is one Body and one Spirit; There is one hope in God’s call to us; One source of Love, one Faith, one Baptism; One God and Creator of us all.

Collect of the Day Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Priest: Let us pray. Lord of the dawn, revealed to women of courage and men of doubt: take us from the empty places where death holds power to the rising of your love as light for all the world; in Jesus Christ, the Resurrection and the Life. Amen. Please be seated for the readings.

The First Lesson Reader:

Isaiah 65:17-25

A reading from Isaiah.

I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating; for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress. No more shall there be in it an infant that lives but a few days, or an old person who does not live out a lifetime; for one who dies at a hundred years will be considered a youth, and one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed. They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain, or bear children for calamity; for they shall be offspring blessed by the Lord--and their descendants as well. Before they call I will answer, while they are yet speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox; but the serpent-- its food shall be dust! They shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, says the Lord.

THE PSALm

Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24

(Psalms for Praying, Nan Merrill)

Please join in singing the Refrain- the verses will be offered the Trinity Singers. REFRAIN

We give thanks to You, O Beloved, for You are kind; your steadfast Love endures forever! Let every nation proclaim,“ Your steadfast Love endures forever.” Harken to songs of victory, to the music of my soul: “You, O Loving Presence, have been my strength, You have stood beside me in the darkness, You have walked with me into the light!” REFRAIN I shall not give in to fear, but I shall live in peace and give witness to your saving grace. You turned your face from my weaknesses, and You opened the door leading to new life. Yes, You opened to me the gates of truth and justice, that I might enter through them. Praise be to You, O Merciful One! This is the Door to Life; those who know Love shall enter through It. REFRAIN I give thanks to You, O Beloved, who answer our prayers and invite us to new Life. The stone which the builders rejected has become the foundation of our lives. This, O Eternal Listener, is your Work; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day which You have made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! REFRAIN

The SECOND Lesson Reader:

1 Corinthians 15:19-26

A reading from First Corinthians.

If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after he has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

Over My Head

arr. Adam & Matt Podd

Over my head I hear music in the air (repeat x3) There music be a joy somewhere. Over my head I hear singing everywhere (repeat x3) There music be a joy somewhere. Over my head I hear music in the air (repeat x3) There music be a joy somewhere. Over my head I hear singing everywhere (repeat x3) There music be a joy somewhere. There must be a joy, there must be a joy, there must be a joy somewhere.

Gospel Deacon: People:

Luke 24:1-12 The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Luke. Glory to you, Lord Christ.

On the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women who had come with Jesus from Galilee came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again." Then they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; then he went home, amazed at what had happened.

THANKSGIVING OVER THE WATER The Priest pours the water into the baptismal font. Priest: People: Priest: People:

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise.

We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life. We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. At the following words, the Priest touches the water. Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen. 8

THE BAPTISM Book of Common Prayer #307 The individual families (and Godparents) come to the font one at a time, presenting the candidate. Each candidate is presented to the Priest who pours water on the candidate saying: Bailey/Beonka/Josiah/Chelsie, I baptize you in the Name of the Creator, Redeemer & Sustainer Amen. The Priest marks the forehead of the candidate with the sign of the cross using chrism oil saying: Bailey/Beonka/Josiah/Chelsie you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ’s own forever. Amen. A baptism candle is then lit from the Paschal candle and handed to the Godparents. Bailey/Beonka/Josiah/Chelsie, receive the light of Christ. Amen.

Priest: Let us pray. Gracious God, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon these your children the gift of eternal love and have raised them to a new life of grace. Sustain them, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give them inquiring minds and discerning hearts, the courage to will and to persevere, spirits to know and love you, and the gifts of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen. Once all the candidates have received the sacrament of baptism they are welcomed. Priest: Let us welcome the newly baptized.

 The Liturgy of the Table  The Great Thanksgiving Celebrant: All: Celebrant: All: Celebrant: All:

A Wee Worship Book, Iona Community

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise.

We praise you, O God, whom eternity cannot contain, for coming to earth and entering time in Jesus. We praise you for his life which informs our living, for his compassion which changes our hearts, for his clear speaking which contradicts our harmless generalities, for his disturbing presence, his innocent suffering, his fearless dying, his rising to life breathing forgiveness and restoring us forever to you. For these gifts we praise and worship you. All that is spectacular, all that is plain have their origin in you. All that is lovely, all who are loving, point to you as their fulfillment. Therefore we gladly join our voices to the song of the Church on earth and in heaven:

Sanctus

Jesus was always the guest. In the homes of Peter and Jairus, Martha and Mary, Joanna and Susanna, he was always the guest. At the meal tables of the wealthy where he pled the case of the poor, he was always the guest. Upsetting polite company, befriending isolated people, welcoming the stranger, he was always the guest. But here, at this table, he is the host. Those who wish to serve him must first be served by him. Those who want to follow him must first be fed by him. 10

For this is the table where God intends us to be nourished. This is the time when Christ can make us new. So come, you who hunger and thirst for a deeper faith, for a better life, for a fairer world. Jesus Christ, who has sat at our tables, now invites us to be his guests. On their last night together, and as they were sitting at a meal, Jesus gave thanks, took a piece of bread and broke it. He gave it to the disciples saying, “This is my body. It is broken for you. Do this to remember me.” Later, after they had eaten, he took a cup of wine, gave thanks and said, “This cup is the new relationship with God made possible because of my death. Drink this all of you, to remember me.” So now we do as Jesus did. We offer this bread and this wine to each other, and proclaim the mystery of faith: Celebrant and People Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We ask that these signs of your love be filled with the fullness of Jesus. Let that same love rest on us, converting us from the patterns of this passing world, until we conform to the shape of him whose food we now share. Amen. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we now pray

New Zealand Prayerbook

Eternal Spirit, Earth-maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver, Source of all that is and that shall be, Father and Mother of us all, Loving God, in whom is heaven: The hallowing of your name echo through the universe! The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the world! Your heavenly will be done by all created beings! Your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hope and come on earth. With the bread we need for today, feed us. In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us. In times of temptation and test, strengthen us. From trials too great to endure, spare us. From the grip of all that is evil, free us. For you reign in the glory of the power that is love, now and forever. Amen.

Celebrant: Let us pray. Almighty and ever living God, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. And now, God, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.
